Has anyone had any luck with after market alternators, like autozone, orielys? Mine just went out. Thanks in advance
mostly OK. You may want to check for a local rebuild shop too. Often equal or better at lower price.Has anyone had any luck with after market alternators, like autozone, orielys? Mine just went out. Thanks in advance
Dont, just dont....buy OEM used on ebay...I bought an aftermarket from auto zone...unlesss you can fix it by yourself the labor for taking it off and putting it on is what will kill you.

I am an older type mechanic. I grew up when Chrysler introduced the first 30 amp alternator.
Today these newer alternators are completely different creatures. Is there any good information, good sources of information on the 2014 and later Genesis in terms of explanation of operation, theory , etc ?
I have been reading that these alternators can shut off while accelerating, turn back on when coasting, and that would make even accurately diagnosing them difficult !
That to me seems like a bad alternator. an Alternator need to be on all the time for your power steering, at least for my car it is, if your alternator die, you will surely know because its hard to turn your steering wheel. Once your alternator die, you have maybe 30 min (?) before the battery die, but symptom pops up when it is dying...e.i battery on your dashboard (even though you have a new battery) this is why I say go with OEM used alternator rather than buying one at an autozone. If youre rich then go to dealership and buy it brand new there, about 300-400 a pop. I got a used OEM 30k miles for 50 bucks on ebay.

... I am a little cautious today, because for the first time we have alternators controlled by the car's main computer or CPU. ...
Some cars have been doing this since at least 2000...
Changed my alternator, now my charge light comes on, just found out that the alternator that is needed is the one that says OEM.Has anyone had any luck with after market alternators, like autozone, orielys? Mine just went out. Thanks in advance

My replacement is a Bosch - no problems. It doesn't need to be OEM. You might need to check to make sure your new alternator is putting out the correct voltage and amperage.
Curious, were they new or rebuilt?Went through 2 non-OEM alternators, chasing electronic problems for years. OEM fixed all issues.
