  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 5.0 non-RSpec model. I've wanted to know the real mechanical differences beyond suspension and transmission tuning with an RSpec. I am pretty sure the engine tuning is the same, only the tranny shift points may be different from an RSpec and mine. The importance of this is when I am trying to wring out more hp/tqr I shouldn't need to buy a reflash to RSpec ECU specs to build from. I too am interested in a viable CAI that won't suck up H20 and does improve performance. I did stoop down and buy the K&N drop in filter. I went to the drag strip but didn't have a baseline with the factory one so I can only say it felt better with the change. Regarding how it ran; I ran the car in 70 degree weather, 3/4 tank of ags, A/C off, and first run with all "controls" on and in Drive. Leaving from an idle it spun very little and then started pulling great. When the first couple of shifts occur the "controls" do interdict during wheel spin. That said it ran 13.52 @ 103.4 MPH. I turned off all you can - the ESC button and it ran 13.61 @ 104 MPH. I shifted it myself w/ ESC off and got 13.52 @103.52 @ 104 MPH. So as configured it runs 13.52s regardless. I want to pep it up but not at the cost of noise or relability. Comments - new updates on ECU - CAI stuff?

How many miles were on your car when you ran it? I ran a best of 13.2 @ 107 when I had about 5k on the odo. I'm thinking she will run even better with a few more miles.
I would also like to get an intake when they become available.
My mechanic didn't recommend the cat delete because he said the car would then get very poor fuel economy. He experienced this first hand with another 5.0.

You definaley cant pull the cats and not tune this car. It will run way to rich..

The rspec has 4 cats, right? 2 in front with the sensors and 2 more in back? Or are the 2 in the back resonators?

The ones in the back look like resonators to me.. Further help quite the exhaust...

They are cats. First cat is attached to the manifold. Second one is inline before the center x-pipe/resonator. You can get cat delete pipes for the second set but posts by people who've done it were usually negative. ie not worth it.

I'll chime in here as a former owner of an '05 CTS-V. I added headers, light flywheel, bigger throttle body raising rwhp from about 330 to 385. It was a great car, and still faster than my current R-Spec. Had transmission and rear end problems with the CTS-V, which were fixed under warranty. Neither was related to my power increases. Did 95K. Caddy never got more than 25mpg, and the R-Spec has never got less than 26 mpg.
As for "deleting the rear cats", I have done so on three Genesis, all with good results. Power/mileage increases are modest but they are there. Modest improvements are realistic expectations. Speed costs money, and this is a good value for the $$. Yes, I have heard from very reliable expert sources that cat do not significantly increase back pressure. I think this is a subjective conclusion as some cats do and some cats don't.

Has this thread died for its true reason? I e-mailed Ben, if not for HP or TRQ then to open the breathing of this restricted 4.6/5.0 I believe if we mass e-mail Airaid and Diablo Sport(Garrett Kabinoff garrett@diablosport.com) we could get some place since Magnaflow and Borla offer a bolt on kit.

Anyone ever get one...?

Emailed Ben... this is the response I received:

Justin
At this time we do not have an intake for the R-Spec in the works. I have been getting a few request from the Hyundai forums and the R-SPEC community so hope fully R&D will take notice.
I have been forwarding all request to the powers that be so if anything changes I will be sure to keep you informed.

Thank you for your input
Ben

I sent the email too. I got the same exact email back from Ben on 05/06/2113. I think we need to keep the pressure on and it will happen.

I've been wondering if this concept would work
