Rears corroding but front ok? Have you tried removing it to see it is corrosion and not some strange coating buildup? Most can be cleaned by rubbing with crumpled aluminum foil and Coke, then a wax or protective coating.
That looks like it was caused by some kind of physical contact with the rim. If so, why would that be covered unless it was a new car delivered to customer that way?
Just noticed today, yes, 2 or 3 areas per front wheel the size of half a fingernail devoid of the shiny silver stuff.
The UK uses salt on the roads and we just had a winter with many frosty days.
An evaluation job for the Hyundai guys at the next service.
Aluminum wheels with a brushed/machined finish like ours are clear coated, if not the aluminum would oxidize and dull. If completely painted, they may or may not be clear coated.I just had a wheel repaired (curb scuff) and the shop asked me if I wanted the "clear coat" treatment (no extra charge). I asked them if my other wheels were clear coated and they said they didn't know, but probably were due to the MSRP of the vehicle. I thought clear coat was only for the upper body paint.
I just had a curb scrape fixed like new for $160 including clear coat.If you cant get it repaired/replaced under warranty there's several wheel repair shops that can repair that kind of damage and you'll never know it was there. They'll clear coat it after the repair and it will be good to go... Might be $100 a wheel though
