  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

I was looking for a 4 door sedan before January and immidiately took it off my list. Why you ask? There isn't an Alfa dealer for more than 350 miles. Also considered a 300 SRT8, Charger SRT8 (3rd Gen), auto WRX, the Genesis, and a Chevy SS. The Guilia is dazzling and I like it from every angle. I would've and still might when I move back to Ohio. There are plenty of dealerships there as I can imagine I'd be in there from time to time.
Aside from the Genesis, the Chevy SS is the best out of the bunch, it's a shame the chryslers ride on that 14 year old platform, and you can definitely really tell. And then the WRX....well too ugly and under powered for me.

I would definitely be sitting a manual 2015 SS right now if it had AWD as an option and therefore wouldn't even be a member of this forum LOL

Side note: does anyone know of any NON-GERMAN vehicle with the following criteria: AWD, manual tranny, and above average performance? Don't say WRX or Focus RS because to me they have a certain "stigma" about them that I don't want to be associated with...

I'm not aware of any... And I completely agree, a large reason I like the Genesis is the more grown-up nature of the car. I'm so sick of Subarus. I hate working on them, and I HATE the aftermarket scene associated with them. The RS just seems like an equivalent alternative, appealing to the same type of people.

Exactly my thinking... having said that, despite the blown head gasket issue plaguing the RS, I've heard its an absolute joy to drive. But the engine issues associated with them coupled with the "spoiler on a hatchback teenager" type stigma, I'm looking for something that screams more young, business professional but can still get out on a back road and have some fun type of car

I'm OK with accepting an auto tranny for the time being and maybe down the road buying a used or CPO "fun" driver such as a 'Stang or Miata or something thats more of a joy to drive

There have been a lot of mentions so far of German cars, but so far the conversation has been dominated by cost difference. If cost isn't a factor for similarly equipped cars, how would you guys compare the G70 to the Germans? I'm particularly interested in comparisons to BMW.

I think cost can be set equal if you consider lightly used German cars (<10k miles). You can get like a 330i for high 20k low 30k.

I had an 08 300 SRT8 and that is the car I miss the most. It is something about the utility and "sleeper" status that comes with fast sedans. Very little hints to show it isn't an everyday car; one being the brembos. I should've never sold it, kick myself in the a** when I think about it. The WRX, where I live, holds its value incredibly well and I think about that when purchasing cars.
There are still some unsold Chevy SS even though it's been discontinued for a while now?

I'd still buy one if I lived in the South. The winters suck and wouldn't want to drive it through that. I'd get the 6 spd and want to daily drive it. As a wise man once said, "patience is virtue".

I honestly never understood steering away from a certain car because it doesn't offer AWD, I grew up in Europe, and our winters are pretty harsh, myself or my dad never had anything different than RWD or FWD, even though I live in SoCal right now, if I was up north probably wouldn't need anything different, especially if there is a car I really like that does not offer AWD.
P.S. the Chevy SS offers winter/snow and ice mode, which actually lowers your power and is extra careful with traction and stability control, so you can still daily it.
P.S.2 Since I work for Chevy, there is ONLY 1 still brand new Chevy SS left in the country unsold, which is actually in Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg, MD :D

I live in Maryland, and believe me, that SS has danced across my eyes a few different times LOL no new manuals available though :/

I only steer away from it because I know the potential SD has in the winters. I had a G35 Sedan RWD and I put some Michelin X-Ice tires and it did pretty well. I had 140 lbs of sand bags in there so it did the job. Where it doesn't work is slush. I was unable to climb a 2 degree street (if that) while being on a route for Lyft and couldn't get to the individuals. They had to walk down that hill. Talk about embarassing LOL I'll wait a bit longer for a "toy" because I've had a few and had to buy DDs along with them. Not a headache, more of an inconvenience. The snow mode in the Genesis should read, "lawn mower power", it retards the power insanely.

The only way I would go is a manual unless the lady wants a say in it which I may settle for an auto. An SS is an SS, regardless of tranny type. The values will only increase over time. You'll see me in one eventually ;)

I checked on Autotrader theres one located up north (I think like Wisconsin)... 2015, awesome Perfect Blue exterior color, 6-speed manual, and the guy put a Whipple supercharger on it... says its over 600 HP and he's never even turned on the windshield wipers because he's babied it so much LOL

Downside is for a used 2015 hes still selling it for $48k...

LOL 600hp for a daily is asking for trouble. I was just fine with my C6 LS3 with a few mods. Estimate was about 415whp. That was WAYYYY MOREEEEE than adequate. I never saw a set of taillights

I'm not surprised about the $48k. As time goes on, more people will notice the exclusivity and how well the car is all 'round. Buying one now is an investment. That's actually one of the recommended investments nowadays; classic cars. They hold value if they are taken car of and I see the same happening with the SS.

Same solely due to no advertising of it... no one knows it is! Couple it with the manual transmission and you've got a truly rare vehicle in your garage...

Just curious, is anybody in here also considering an Alfa Romeo Giulia? Specifically, I've been eyeing the Giulia Ti Sport w/LSD and adjustable dampers.

I've read that the 280hp figure is very conservative. Also, the mpg and lighter weight are attractive.

It seems like an in-between the G70 2.0T sport and 3.3T sport, in terms of performance and price.

Just to illustrate...
G70 2.0T Sport 0-60: ~7.4 seconds
Giulia 2.0T 0-60: 5.1 seconds
G70 3.3T Sport: 4.5 seconds

FYI: I got the G70 6spd 0-60 time from Alex on Autos' YouTube review.
I was. A coworker of mine has the QV fully tricked out, too.

Test drove a Ti Sport. Steering feels dialed but throttle is a little jumpy and brakes are touchy. (Likely a driver problem, though.) More than anything, it was FUN.

I was a bit obsessed over the QV before my coworker showed up with his...went so far as to find one on CarGurus which was a 2017 with 300 miles on it for ~$59k and had discussions with the wife. (Dealer is in Southern California.)

Ultimately, FCA's reputation killed it for me. Read more than one complaint about waiting for parts...literally months. I can't have that situation with a daily driver.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a CPO s5 sportback too. Ive seen some discussion earlier in this thread and those prices are maybe a couple k more than what I think the 3.3 will start at. Also a4s prestige with the black optics package are sitting closer to 40k one year used with low miles. really a hard decision at this point but hoping to at least test drive a g70 soon to see

Unfortunately...I need to lease. Cannot lease CPO cars anymore...for about a year now. Bummer.

So I’m stuck with new.

While I appreciate their cars, I can't see my way to Audi or Volkswagen anything. I think this sums it up for me:

(Hint: See 06:35 to keep it short and the vitriol to a minimum.)
