  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Guys, so I finally decided to install a Nexus 7 in my genesis for navigation purposes. I do a lot of driving in town, and the stock navigation wasn't just cutting it due to the outdated maps and lack of support by Hyundai. This might be the best way to have a tablet mounted in the tech package since you can have it on when driving and take it home after your done. I used two Scosche mount plates bought from amazon. I stuck one plate on the tablet and the other on the dash (Pictures are attached for more context). I went to home depot and bought the smallest L brackets I could find and epoxyed two neodymium magnets on both ends, as seen in the picture. Make sure to get neodymium magnets for the stronghold. I haven't had the tablet move or vibrate once, even going through speed bumps and rough roads. You will have to adjust the L brackets using pliers so that the tablet is flush with the dash. This will also make the tablet more securely fit in the navigation panel area. One Neodymium magnet sticks to the mount plate on the tablet and the other to the mount plate on the dash. Here are some pros and cons of this setup.

PROS:
Google maps for navigation
Easy to mount and take it off
Use for media consumption
Easy to install.

CONS:
Blocks View to the backup camera while reversing
Sun Glare makes it very hard to use in the afternoon. (trying to find a fix for this. Anti-glare screen protector and playing with contrast and brightness didn't fix the problem)
The tablet battery isn't that great, and it cant be charged while using but can be easily plugged in after use. I have to charge it every couple of days.

I might buy a new tablet with similar dimensions to Nexus 7 as it fits perfectly in the dash with a better battery that is more current and better screen for my purpose.

Let me know guys if you have any suggestions or any questions. See attached pics.

I was thinking about this same thing for a long time - to have 10" tablet mounted for navigation and media purposes (cause built in navigation is not robust compare to Google maps or Waze). But I wanted to have set up where I could lift tablet and look at the screen and was looking for the right dash mount for a long time. And I finally did it last month. I will take pictures later today and post them. Stay tuned.

BLOCKS BACKUP CAMERA VIEW?!

Back to square one.

What’s wrong with this concept?

Sometimes simple is better.:)
Not to mention that the Tech Package audio (17 spkrs!) info screen is blocked. And what about all the other screen settings views?

Whenever I want to use the info screen, I just pop out the tablet. It's just in place because of the magnets.

Awesome, yeah this setup works for me because like 90 percent of the time I just use my tablet for navigation, and the info screen can be accessed by just popping out the tablet in case I need it. I couldn't find anything that works well with my genny so had to devise my own solution. Do share your setup.

It’s your car, but I couldn’t see messing up my dash.

Last I looked you could get a Nav update at the dealer, or via MapNSoft.

It takes about 4 to 6 hours and 4 or 6 (I don't remember exactly) DVDs to update maps on 09-11 Genesis. And this is the ONLY way to do that. And car engine needs to run all this time. I am not sure about '12 Genesis though.

And navigation still cumbersome to use compare to Google maps and Waze. I tried to use it several times and it was pain in the rear bumper.

Here is my setup for 10" 4G/Wi-Fi tablet. Pictures attached.
Power to the the tablet comes from the box attached to the side of center console.

I can easily lift tablet and look at the screen when is needed.

The mount setup does not look pretty at the speaker area, but I am going to cut at the end (where red line is) and re-stick it to the dash.

This is the tablet mount:

Nice setup. Like the swivel feature where you can flip the tablet when not in use. Going to check if I can make such a mechanism using the tablet mount you linked. It will definitely help especially using the reverse backup camera. Thanks for your post.
