Android Auto was a big reason I went with the 2018 model year. After having AA via pioneer head unit in my previous truck, it became a must. Cable isn't a big deal. Ensures a solid and reliable connection, unlike anything wireless. Steering
wheel controls work as expected. Voice prompts rely on Google, so it understand natural language. Music, navigation, weather, agenda, make a call/text? Just ask.
You get latest maps and live traffic via Waze/Google that is actually useful, unlike virtually any built-in NAV, even with SiriusXM Traffic. Then Google Play high quality music for the high quality 17 speaker stereo system just makes it a perfect little package. Also, unlike crappy SiriusXM radio, or low quality bluetooth audio.
Using my Galaxy S8+, I've only run into a minor glitch a couple times. Usually audio briefly confused as it switches from voice prompts and music. Might have to hit play twice when I first plug it in. Otherwise it works great. And if anything, I think most folks will find this easier to use than the factory system. If you're going to learn something new, might as well be one that works.
And yeah, everything AA is limited to the head unit. But that's a nice 9.2" 720p HD display. Not exactly a bad compromise.
Or if you're feeling adventurous, use both factory NAV (via HUD) and
Android Auto at the same time as a backup, or second opinion.

OK you guys, maybe you can explain something to me about AA: say you are using whatever app, nicely mirrored to the dash display.
? What happens when a call comes in to your Android?
(committed to buying a Genesis; trying to decide between Ultimate and Tech '16
Thanks in advance............
Same thing that happens when you use your phone. You'll see a pop-up notification so you can answer or ignore the call. Same with texts. It will use google voice to play back and give you the option to dictate your response.
