  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No sooner than I think how great AA is, it's become a total mess for me when it comes to text messages.

Out of the blue all visual and audible notifications of text messages stopped showing up on my head unit screen (17 speaker version). I've tried uninstalling the app multiple times and still won't fix issue.

To add to the mess, the system will randomly just quit letting me send texts, meaning when I say "Hey google, text wife" the system beeps like it's listening but within seconds, the screen goes back to (for example) the radio and won't send any message.

Even stranger, if it DOES follow through and ask me what I want to say in the text, the Google lady will repeat back complete gibberish. Meaning if I say "I'll be home in a few minutes" she reads it back as random words like "wind unicorn ash boot" I mean it's totally comical listening to the gibberish she reads back. It makes NO sense as to why this is happening.

At this point I cannot rely on AA for text messaging at all. Period. it's a mess. All I use it for at this point is Spotify or maps.

I'd love to know how to fix this mess. If anyone know how to, let me know.

Was anyone else in the car to verify you didn't really say "wind unicorn ash boot"? :giggle:

Just when I thought I had it resolved (actually worked like normal the other day), I got in car last night and plugged in phone, tried to text and it wouldn't, the screen looked like Google Assistant was listening but it didn't it just timed out and radio came back on.

I had 2 people text me while I was driving and neither of the messages appeared on my radio screen, just on the phone and my smartwatch.

Ugh, this thing is driving me batty! It worked so well for months now it's a complete POS at this point.

I've had trouble off and on with text messages too. I dont generally initiate messages so cannot answer to that but I have had trouble with incoming messages not showing on the screen either. Also I've tried using Google assistant and get the same thing you did, the dots doing their wave and then just timing out.
Then all of a sudden I'll get a text message and it will work normally for awhile. I just roll with whatever is happening lol. Restarting phone etc seems to have no affect.

Still acting crazy. Plugged in phone on drive home and text from wife came through and showed up on screen. It allowed me to playback message. The Google asked if I wanted to reply. I said 'yes" and it sat there for a second with the dancing "listening" lines and then it just timed out and radio came back on. Ugh.

Yikes, mine just screwed up for the first time over the weekend. Did the same thing like it heard me then provided no further action. Today it worked fine.

Sounds like your phone lost the cellular connection temporarily?

Ditto here. 4 bars of solid 4G. Like I said earlier, AA worked pretty much flawlessly for months. Never a hiccup, then out the blue after one of the updates it went completely off the rails and now has a mind of its own.

I noticed AA had an update yesterday so I anxiously did the update in hope the "bug fixes" would straighten out my mess.

NOPE.

I plugged the phone in last night and tested things out and it's still a hot mess. I did received text message pop up on my car screen. I had it read the message and after Google asked if I wanted to reply I said "yes" and the dancing lines sat thinking for a second or two then disappeared and my radio came back on. It refuses to allow me to reply to any text messages.

What a PITA. :(

Mine seems to be working ok for now - though one of my "replies" did what your's did. I just did a voice text from the car after that that seemed to work ok.
It IS awful hit or miss though

AA got really screwed up on my ATS once, ended up removing the App from my phone and reinstalled it.

I've done that twice with no luck.

It completely failed me again multiple times yesterday. Started repeating my message with completely random words, that is when it even allowed me to speak my message. Other times the radio would be blaring and the Google lady was quietly existing in the background, I could here her saying "sure, what's the message". Other times the whole radio and Google would mute and not actions worked at all. I don't have a clue why AA has failed miserably with the text message portion. I can ask it to play Spotify just fine, ask it what the weather is, etc and it works like a charm. But trying to send/receive texts is a total fail at this point.

Well it looks like the all new AA software is rolling out so I'm crossing fingers it solves all the issues I've had over the last few weeks.

Thanks to another post we figured out how to get it.

Go to you phones app settings, find AA, force stop, clear data AND cache. force stop again if needed. The open AA on phone. Go to the AA settings and you should see "Try new AA" at top. You will then get new format on your car screen.
