  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Guys,

Planning on picking up a 2015 Genesis v6 RWD ultimate. Was wondering if you can connect your android phone to the audio system thru USB and stream music that way rather than bluetooth?

Sal

I've had issues with connecting my Galaxy sIII to USB. Last time I did it, the phone claimed that it didn't recognize the car's A/V system. I didn't attempt to stream sound. I will try next time.

I tried on mine and it doesn't seem to work. Droid Maxx. It does however seem to be a hot USB port in that it charges the phone when the car is off.... weird

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Did you set your phones USB connection to MTP mode?

Any luck? I'm hoping it works as the audio quality should be much better than BT streaming.

I haven't tried on the Genesis but most car systems do not work with MTP (which most modern Android phones use). UMS (essentially a USB drive) is what most automotive systems support. On my older car (a Hyundai), it was a pain as I was forced to use Bluetooth because of it but the radio did not display any metadata. At least the Genesis will show song data via Bluetooth but it is still less than ideal since you cannot control playlists or go to a specific song without pulling out the phone.

Depending on the phone, some Android phones with root can install software that will enable UMS mode. Audio quality over BT is excellent for me.

Bummer cause the BMW's offer this...makes scrolling through a massive library of tunes on your phone a lot easier. Anyways, not a big deal. Bluetooth these days sounds pretty good.

In reading that, I'm not sure the BMW is actually different. "...Almost all common MP3 players, Apple iPods and USB sticks can be integrated effortlessly with the audio system...". All three of those mentioned devices use the UMS protocol and not MTP. iDevices do not support UMS either but is supported as radio makers build in provisions to support Apple playlists and track manipulation.

MTP could be supported as that is essentially what Apple uses but there is no standard for delivering that data that radio makers can build in. I am an Android guy because I prefer the custom experience it offers but Apple's ability to create standards allows for radio makers to support iOS devices much better.

I was pissed with Hyundai's limited ability to connect to phones. My Galaxy connected but would not stay connected. Dealer told there was a recommended phone list, so I accessed that and had to get a new phone that was on the list. I got an iPhone 5s because the 6 was not on the list. When I connect it, the music downloaded from iTunes automatically play on the AUX part of the sound system.
