  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Like many, I've been a fan of this forum for a couple of months as I have narrowed my search for a new car. The information / feedback has been great. I was all set to buy the G37 sedan when I saw the Genesis at the Chicago auto show a couple months ago. The next day I went for a test drive in a 4.6 with tech pkg and immediately changed my mind. The only challenge was finding a black 4.6 tech pkg with the cashmere interior. Well I finally found one in Florida while on vacation and drove it for a week before taking the road trip back to Chicago.

Not to be redundant, but this is a great car, especially for the price. I am coming out of an Acura RL and the Genesis blows it away (we'll have to see how it handles the snow next year). After 1,900 miles in two weeks I still can't believe the power, the quite / luxurious cabin, space and features. Even my family loves this car...a bonus! Also, this is my first car with an iPod interface - that is great, as is the stereo in general. the nav screen is also extremely clear during the day and at night. My RL was difficult to see in bright sun at times.

One the improvement side, the iPod interface is a bit slow and it does not seem to stay in shuffle mode (anyone have suggestions?) Also, the logic and menus for the nav are not as good as the Acura. Acura probably has one of the most intuitive nav set ups. Bluetooth is very good in general, but it would nice to be able to transfer the phonebook.

Will likely put the Genesis badge on the back today! More to come....

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up! Your iPod question would probably get better answers in the Tech Forum.

What year was your RL? I'm surprised to hear how much more you like the Genesis! Well, not REALLY surprise - but a little. The Acura RL is no slouch! It may not have the power of the Genesis - but it's certainly a very luxurious vehicle..

I'll check the tech forum you mentioned...thanks. The RL was OK but a lot of rattles since day one. Engine was pretty good, never a problem. No iPod interface for the '06. Also, liked the nav. But the Genesis just seems like a more solid car so far and I like the heavier steering and over feel of the ride better.

Hi, long time reader (about 1 month or so), first time poster. I live in the Chicagoland area and I too have been having trouble locating the color combo I am looking for. Sterling Metallic/Black w/Tech Pkg 4.6. I am ready to buy after months of research and test drives 3 in the 4.6 and 2 in the 3.8. Similar to your situation, I was thinking I would buy the G37 from Infiniti or possibly the IS 350 from Lexus. Then I started thinking about a LS460 or an M45 realizing that I was more interested in luxury than sporty performance. In the end once I drove the Genesis and then I knew which car I wanted.

I want to buy right now, but I am very curious to know when the 2009 first started shipping? If it was in June of 2008, then I can wait 1-2 months if the 2010s will be out which, depending on the changes, I can buy a 2010 or maybe get a better deal on the 2009s. Any thoughts on that strategy?

Any ideas on changes for the 2010 year model, here are some things I would like to see based on what I have experienced and read:

  • Heated/Cooled Passenger Seat
  • Optional Wing Badges (I see a lot of rebadging and it looks very cool - would be nice to come that way)
  • Optional Non-leather wrapped dashboard in Tech Package
  • Factory tinted windows

This is a great forum and I appreciate any feedback or tips. I will be a Genesis owner it's just a matter of which model year and how soon.

Thanks,
Knight

Most dealers will install the wing badges for you if you ask (maybe charge you a fee if you ask after the deal is done). I am starting to see the wing badges on some dealer inventory. You will not see this as factory installed unless they drop the Hyundai name and start a Genesis brand (which is being considered, but probably not for 2010). You can order the rear badge and install it yourself for about $18 (several threads on how to do this).

The windows already have more than average tint and UV protection than other OEM windows. You will not see full tinting due to the wide variability of state laws regarding the amount of tint allowed (some states don't even allow any tinting on driver side window). Have you seen this offered on any other car (aside from rear passenger and rear glass on SUV type vehicles)?

The G37 and IS 350 (and ES 350) are good cars, but they are much smaller than the Genesis or LS 460 sedans.

No, haven't really thought about too much, but I was reading this forum where someone had tinted their windows with aftermarket tint. I thought that darker tint would make up for the fact that there are no side window shades like there are in the Lexus LS460L. I have a Mini-Van where the windows are really dark and it looks pretty good. Good point, probably doesn't need to be a factory option. Maybe I should have just said rear side window shades (power).

Personally, I prefer tinted windows, and had mine done with a very high quality cermamic tint film (Forumula One Pinnacle). I paid $360 (which was a 10% winter discount). Always best to get a tint job in winter if possible to avoid the rush and avoid having it done by summer help (and maybe get a discount).

Any ideas, speculation, or information regarding the 2010 Genesis Sedan models introduction/availability?
