  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any Genesis owners have experience with this "appearance protection" plan?
Just looking for some first hand feedback as to what it covered for you specifically and what the experience was like to make a 'claim' on it.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

EDIT : I apologize - I am in Canada and am referring to a Canadian plan that is on the national website. It's part of the online purchase process of the car.

Sounds like a dealer plan, not one offered by Genesis Motors USA. Do you have any paperwork on it?

But since you live in "AB" (which is not a USA state abbreviation), I should say that I don't know if that plan is offered by Genesis Motors Canada, which is completely separate from Genesis Motors USA.

I also wonder as it is the only one i am thinking of but it is a Genesis offered program but not sure if the 2000 is worth it to repair a few windshiled chips or the whole thing as well as paint dont want higher payments but peace of mind is nice.... unless its a hassle to make claims like it was for our mitsubishi lancer

Yes, Canadian. I edited the post - apologies!

I did find this from Hyundai Finance.

I did have something similar on my car. It did keep it somewhat cleaner and easy to clean for the three years I had it with no additional waxing. Not cheap, I'm sure it is a money maker for the dealer as is all of the "after sale" products. Never had need to make a claim on it.

If that link is the plan then don't waste your money for the most part it's a scam. Wash and Wax your car once in awhile and you have leather interior not cloth.
You can buy the Simoniz GlassCoat for like $30. The paints today are much better than in the past, my wife's Honda sits outside most of the year and gets wax maybe once every 2 years and the paint still looks like new and it's red.

It is offered by Genesis Canada. In my opinion it is worth it if you live in Alberta because it offers the full replacement of 1 windshield and 1 OEM windshield costs more than the plan itself. Like any insurance product, it sucks if you don't end up using it but it is great if you do have to use it. Given the nature of rocks in Alberta and that my very own G70 Sport's windshield got chipped the first day I had it because of some BMW that happened to cut in front of my lane and throw a rock at my windshield, I would personally say it is worth it.

Here is the Coverage you get. You decide if it is worth it to you or not:

  • Repair damage to leather/interior
  • Removal of small dents on exterior body panels
  • Repair of paint damage on exterior (up to $2k)
  • Repair/replacement of a damaged front windshield (1 windshield replacement -- this is what makes it worth it here in AB, IMO)
  • Repair of damaged head/tail/foglights
  • Coverage for lost/stolen/damaged keys/fobs
  • Repair/replacement of damaged tires/wheels
  • Repair of curb rash
$20,000 aggregate limit total
1 windshield replacement total
2 curb rash repairs (up to $400 each) total

Sounds like one of those great deals you can get at a Genesis bodega. Err, botique.

Someone with a G80 must have been through the process of actually making a claim on this? Nobody?

What would you claim? Note the wording on stains: "upholstery to
reduce staining from everyday items, including:"

You spill grape juice and make a stain. You take it in and they say "yep, it is reduced. Would have been realy bad without it"

Fading with paint today takes years. Bird crap washes off.

The Hyundai plan is not the plan we're talking about. This plan would fix scratches, dents, a windshield replacement, etc. It's not Scotchgard and a wax job.

Never heard if it in the US. Do you have a link? Windshield is typically covered by insurance here.

Ok the plan maybe worth it but only if you use it and it adds up to more than what you pay for it. If in the past with previous cars you have owned and had any of the issues listed here then maybe it's right for you.

Here is my take:

Here is the Coverage you get. You decide if it is worth it to you or not:

Repair damage to leather/interior (in 40 years and the many cars I have owned I have never damage my leather/interior)
Removal of small dents on exterior body panels (I've had maybe a few and these can be removed for $50-$100)
Repair of paint damage on exterior (up to $2k) (Again depends on the amount of damage, if someone damage your paint it's what I have car insurance for)
Repair/replacement of a damaged front windshield (Again this is why I have car insurance)
Repair of damaged head/tail/foglights (How would these be damaged if not from an accident?)
Coverage for lost/stolen/damaged keys/fobs (ok again I have never lost one but these are not cheap to replace)
Repair/replacement of damaged tires/wheels (With these cheap conti tires this might be good)
Repair of curb rash (For me this might be a good option since where I live we have granite curbs that tear the hell out of your wheels)

These plans are big profit-makers for those selling them. Yes, if you happen to have damage that is covered by the service, you will come out ahead. But they've already computed that any given customer is very unlikely to have a coverable claim. Every year of car ownership without a service like this represents substantial savings that could apply to the cost of a repair if one should become necessary at some point. I've certainly saved enough over my years of car ownership and avo8iding these policies to cover any cost I might incur at some future time. These damages aren't catastrophic, like having your house and all of its belongings burning to the ground. If you get a scratch, chances are you can afford to get it fixed. And you will have saved some serious money by being willing to take that manageable risk.

Alberta is a unique place -- there are rocks everywhere so windshields get chewed through like candy so they aren't covered under regular insurance policies. You have to pay extra for them (monthly fee and deductible) and there is no guarantee you will even get an OEM windshield. Something to consider when pricing out the cost of windshield insurance versus appearance protection.

I know YEG is a dealer guy but he's right about paint chips, headlamp damage , etc in a place where they use essentially gravel to give you traction on roads in the winter. I don't want to be calling my insurance company every year over paint chips on the hood and a windshield every 2 years. I want my insurance kept cheap. I lived in Ontario for over 10 years of my driving life and never had a damaged windshield. Of 7 cars my family has owned since moving here in '07 - we only owned one that I drove for about 5 years (they overlap) that never took a serious windshield hit. That car was a 2009 Mazda 6 - it had some sort of magic force field around it that I can't explain.

Again, however - I am just looking for an owner in Canada who has actually used this plan to tell me what it was like to do it. Sometimes you buy plans like this and then go to make a claim and it's a ridiculous nightmare. Sometimes the process is so pain-free it's worth it's cost. If I'm going to need to beg to have paint work done or the work gets contracted out to someone who does a bad job, etc than I'm not interested. As with most things I don't generally spend 2000 dollars on something that is a question mark as far as the experience is concerned.

We don't really need to cover any more as far as who thinks it's worth it and who doesn't - but if one day soon someone sees this thread who has actually used this plan and not just bought it I'd be very interested in hearing from them.

Thanks again.

Not sure if it is available in Canada but for protection from the paint chips you could install a clear bra like Xpel Ultimate. It is a clear plastic covering for the front of the car that will prevent the paint from getting chipped. You can actually do the entire car but that gets pretty pricey. I had the front done on mine. I would recommend getting the full hood rather than just the front third.

We use Xpel at our agency. Fantastic stuff, especially the self healing properties! I have Xpel on all my demos and on all my personal cars.

Do you wrap the entire car or just the front? I have been thinking about getting the doors done too but that seems pretty pricey. One Xpel's site the kits for the doors are about $1200 each side.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

We have varying prices based on coverage. Typical coverage is bumper cover, ~2' of the hood, matching length on the fenders, and mirror caps, but the full hood can be done for a nominal fee. ;)
