If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any High Mileage Genesis Sedans out there?

2013 Genesis 3.8 sedan. Mileage is just shy of 200k. Regular oil changes every 5k miles. One set of front brakes at 130k. One battery about 18 months ago. Transmission replaced under warranty at 60k.
I’m a sales rep so I drive a lot and am hell on windshields. On my third one. The aftermarket is a lot tougher than the Hyundai windshield.
The car is still smooth and powerful and the only issue is it uses a quart of oil roughly every 1500 miles. Not leaking or smoking but the oil is going somewhere. I’m keeping a close eye on it because I plan to retire at the end of the year and I want the car to last until then.
Is your car still going good because I am looking at purchasing a used Genesis 3.8 with 150k miles. I would like it to last to 200k without and repairs over 1000 dollars. Do you this this is possible

Purchased new 2014 with just over 240K miles and will never sell it...it's just that great of a vehicle. Good luck in your search.

Ok thanks a lot for your response. I think most of the people saying it won't last aren't even owners. Thanks again. Also do you have any chain rattle on start up.

Not sure if I hear it or not? Such a quick start. Will listen closer next few times.

So, I left the door open when I cranked the engine and I heard something for like a second, but it went away instantly. Could have been the chains but don't really know. I have to share that my 240K miles are pretty "hard" miles.

Indeed, Sir. This car was one of my better purchases. Had a minor front end damage in Feb 2023, bumped the vehicle in front of me so the bumper cover and so other parts were replaced, them in March 2024 a deer caused enough damage they totaled my car. They gave me the car and just enough to fix the car again. Now I have a salvage title. Then I tagged a big raccoon in November of 2024 so I will have to pay for a new bumper cover. Not in a big hurry but I won't give this car up.

Considering your experience with animals, I imagine the neighbors call their dogs in when they see you come down the street.

Funny. October and November in my area " slow @$$ed raccoon" months. Both animals were hit at basically high speed and I was on the brakes hard. On my street I always drive slow as there 15 plus small children most of the time playing and I have watched most of them grow up since birth.

2012 3.8 with 136k miles. Purchased new in October 2012.
On my 3rd battery.
Oil changes with Mobil1 and plain-jane oil filter every 7,500 miles.
Had the diff fluid changed with M1 75W-90 last month. First time. Original fluid was disgusting.
Have never done a drain and fill of the transmission, but would like to. Just nervous about taking it to someone competent.
Last inspection revealed slight leak in exhaust flex pipe, which I can hear at idle and low rpm. Also showed that front struts were starting to leak.
No major issues or repairs.

Overall has been reliable. Would like to get 20 years and over 200k miles out of it.

Numerous videos on YouTube about draining and servicing the transmission on your Genesis. I will take it back to the dealer where it was purchased. They did the first trans and diff drain and service.

I've inquired with multiple dealers, and even independent shops, in Queens, NY and Long Island, and they all refused to touch it. They think it's bad to replace the transmission fluid on a high mileage car. I consider that to be an old wives tale, and I keep insisting that I'm not referring to a flush, just a simple drain and fill. Doesn't make a difference. None of them will even give me a quote.

I have seen instructions online, and I would do it myself, but I have no garage space to do it in. Plus, I have to park on the street and it is illegal in NYC to service a vehicle on the street.

I understand your situation. My dealer is less than two miles from my work. Our transmission requirement is only drain and service. Supposedly addition steps which I won’t do it myself. I have a home garage with a floor jack and stands and still won’t do it. I’ve already purchased the new fill plug and gasket along with a new transmission filter/pan combination along with mounting hardware. I will grab a few gallons of the required fluid for my transmission. Service and drive a few miles to clean any debris then have that fluid drained and then topped off to correct level and hopefully get me to 341K miles before I have to do it again.

"hopefully get me to 341K miles"

Sounds like you treat the car properly, so you will make it. These are sturdy vehicles.

I try. I love this car. Has carried us many miles. On my third battery, just installed brake pads and rotors for the first time at 217-227K miles. On fifth or sixth set of tires. Second set of Michelins were horrible so I switched to Contentals. Now after four sets of those they have changed the tire consistency so they actually made their mileage warranty. Don't like it, would rather just get new a set every 30 months because the ride quality with the older version ride quality was amazing. I have some upcoming maintenance that needs to be done but I tend to not "fix things until they need to be done". Maybe good or bad but it has worked for me. My 2006 V6 Sonata with 255K miles had original plugs, wires and a few other scheduled parts replacement items but it ran perfectly. Only traded it because the harmonic balancer was getting to depart...and I saw this brand 2014 Genesis. My Sonata was sold while I was doing the deal on the Genesis.
