If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any High Mileage Genesis Sedans out there?

My 2009 3.8L has 140K miles on it. I've never had a major repair The only engine issue has been a engine throttle sensor covered by warranty at 25K miles. I changed the sparks plugs at 100K, change the full-synthetic oil every 5K, tires typically at 38K, I elected to change front and rear struts AND inner & outer tie bars at 100K. Flushed both Trans fluid and replaced Differential fluid at 80K.
Drove her 650 miles last weekend and averaged 28.0mpg. I do most of the preventive maintenance myself. Due for a transmission fluid & filter change but unfortunately Hyundai doesn't source the o-ring required for the new filter so I might have to pass on the filter change and do a drain & fill (4 times or so). I'd really like to drop the pan and clean the magnets etc. but don't want to reuse the old gasket!
This car drives unbelievably well and I plan to keep it until it no longer does. I believe that time in well down the road!

If you can afford the down time, you could drop the transmission pan and filter, and either reuse the O ring (if you think it's in acceptable shape), or take it to a few parts stores and see if they have one that matches its size. Just a suggestion...

Yes I considered that but have decided to forego the filter change and do a number of drain & fill cycles.
I imagine Hyundai Genesis doesn’t sell or source that o-ring is because their Dealer’s do a trans fluid flush and therefore don’t drop the pan and change the trans filter.

From experience, Hyundai only does transmission fluid drain and fill, no flush. Def suggest draining and servicing numerous times to get new fluid cycled thru the gearbox for cleaner red fluid and then change the transmission filter/pan assembly. This is my next step as my '14 has 203,200 miles after having initial service @ 86,000 miles.

Our 2010 has 252K. Other than normal maintenance, the passenger headrest broke, the passenger sun visor won't stay up, and just this week, the A/C airflow slows down after about 30 minutes. You can shut it off for a few, and turn it back on and it'll be OK. Could be low on freon. But other than that, it's been the best car I've ever owned.

204,595 miles....numerous oil and filter changes, trans drain & fill and rear diff drain and fill. Original battery died December 2017 so dealer replaced with a new one. Original brakes. Will be changing rotors and pads soon.

I own a 2013 3.8. I get the oil change every 6000 miles but I have been putting in synthetic oil since I bought it. It now has 131,000. I only had to replace the front rotors which I put drilled rotors on it. I did have to replace the driver side hub because I was getting abs & ecu light. I will be getting a tuneup next weekend. I am supplying my ow plugs ( NGK ) to save money when I take it to the dealership. I have attached a picture of her.

May I ask what the expected mpg for these 10 years old genesis should be? Example: 15mpg would be too low, 25 would be excellent.

I'm using only top Chevron or Mobil gas.
My 2013 3.8 had 131,000 miles on her and I her and I get 26-27 miles to the gal. It’s all highway miles and city I get 23-24.

How do you like the drilled rotors? I am considering them when I replace mine. I am looking at the Power Stop brand, all four rotors and pads.
I am getting 26.5 to 28.5 mpg combined city/highway. On long trips I get 31 to 34 mpg when I stay below 80 mph. Long trips the car is loaded with my wife and I and the A/C running. I use Castrol semi-synthetic and a max use Wix filter.

I love them. They really brake nice if you had to stand on the. I too have power stop rotors. I get about the movs with mine. I have yet to replace the rears yet but I will put the same on there. I will say they are lighter in weight than the original ones. You will like them if you got them.

Thanks for the response. My rear pads are worn more than the fronts and will just do all four at once and hopefully go another 200K+ miles on them.

Your welcome anytime.

I have a 6/08 produced 2009 3.8L Genesis that I just drove from Omaha to Denver round trip 1100 miles and Averaged 29.5mpg on the Interstate at 85mph and the AC running as temp during drive was 82 to 93 degrees. I typically get 19mpg in city driving. The amazing thing is that I have 141k on my Genesis and my window sticker read 18mpg city & 27mpg highway!
The only problem I’ve had with this car was at 27k the throttle control module failed and was covered by Warranty. Regular maintenance: oil / filter change every 5k, tires, recently 3rd set of front brake pads & rotors…..2nd set on rear, BOTH trans fluid and rear differential fluid changed at 80k & 140k, spark plugs at 100k, replaced battery twice, replaced front inner & outer tie bars, replaced front struts & rear shocks, replaced serpentine belt 140k.
This car drives & handle LIKE NEW!
I have done all the maintenance myself except for the throttle control module & the shock and struts. I have no idea how long I’ll continue to drive this car but it’ll be “awhile”. Here in Nebraska it costs me $54 annually to License & Register this car. A new car would require 7% tax on the purchase price and about $2,850 License & Registration Yr 1…..90% of that Yr 2 etc.
JOKE……I can’t afford to be separated from this car!!

Conwayjb, hope to have your luck. So far so good! (23k miles on a '19)

Genesis sedan 3.8 2012 with 217 000 km. Still runs like a champ!

'10 4.6 225K. Just did a water pump. Just regular maintenance other than that.

Alright, so anyone out there with a 250,000+ mile genesis sedan with its original powertrain? v6 or v8. Feel free to discuss what maintenance you've had to do.
I have 287,454 on my 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sedan. I travel a great deal for work. It had 28,000 miles on it when I purchased on 12/1/2017. Most of mileage is highway. Perform regular maintenance and still running strong. Just now having to replace AC Compressor. Outstanding vehicle!

Wanted to expand on my reply here, hopefully it helps someone solve some issues. So Genesis Sedan 2012 3.8 220kms. Got it at 100kms. Check engine light is on since day one pretty much due to a catalytic converter (think it’s p0420). This issue is not affecting my driving experience whatsoever. At 120kms rattling sound on engine start, was the timing chain, had to be replaced (this one hurts the wallet). Overall runs great, but sometimes I get minor transmission slips. I got my transmission oil/pan/filter changed at 190kms, which is late. Also at 190kms, changed my front springs and shocks + rear shocks. Recently, (215kms) the car started stalling at low rpm when idling or coming to a stop, my issue was a faulty crankshaft position sensor - $200 issue was fixed. Also one front spindle knuckle had to be replaced, was at a degrading stage apparently, was making noise and the wheel wouldn’t spin easily - risk of seizure, worn out bearing. Regular oil changes tho, recently put Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation 5W30. Been using liqui moly synthetic for a while but this Molygen seemed to make a difference in performance and fuel consumption. I absolutely love this car, it’s a beast and still a smooth ride!

That 3.8 is a great engine. I'm just past 216K.

I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8L sedan with 190k on it. Only issues are a ripped front seat and timing chain rattle on start. The rattle is 4 years old now. Only service was the factory brake line recall and plugs at 100k (did myself). Other than oil changes and brakes thats is it. Not even a headlight replacement. No issues. I get 24-27 mpg highway on 87 octane. Still runs quiet and smooth.
I have the same issues on my 2011 sedan. The rattle lasts for two or three seconds. What type of oil do.you use. I have 175,000 miles.
