  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

I wonder why they would put a beautiful and probably not cheap headliner in and then cheap out on securing it properly? Honestly, what could the cost have been to put in some better quality clips? a nickel per car? Even if they sell one million of them around the world, that's only $50,000.... obviously not even an afterthought for such a huge company...

I guess it is possible that the Alcantara headliner is heavier than a traditional headliner so the installation is stressing the normal clips they use and they didn't even realize it would be an issue...
Yeah i agree, i thought my roof wrap would not be soo much work but now i have to get a paint shop to paint the damn shark fin.. that being said the headliner is one of my favorite parts of the car lol

Are you hearing the noise just when you're opening/closing the sunroof, or all the time? Both open and closed positions?

For me it's all the time when going over rougher patches of road. I don't think it's the sunroof so much as the headliner now. When I took my car in they said they went in there with some lube and it definitely helped part of the noises.

Now it occurs on the front right part of the headliner which seems to have a lot more give when pushed than the other side - whether that's actually a reason for the noise I don't know but pressing on that section while going over bumps seems to alleviate some/most of the noise.

Man, I hope they get this resolved, both for current and future owners. In a car like this, that sort of rattle just isn't acceptable. If the dealers haven't found a remedy yet, somebody at the factory needs to get on it and provide them with some guidance.

Totally agree. I seem to be cursed in this regard. My A4 had a rattle for a year that took 3 separate visits and ride along to finally get fixed.

@Buckdes, when you get the rear of the roof and fin painted can you post some pictures and let us know what it cost you? If I don't get the black exterior, painting the roof and fin black are going to be my first order of business.

Will do !!

Can confirm there is an occasional rattle thump from the front passenger headliner area. Around the grab handle area. Occasionally over rough road bumps it will thump. If i hold the handle with some slight pressure it is gone. I just give it a tug every now and then. Told my Sales manager will be looking at it when it comes to first service, currently around 4,000km.

I am in the process of purchasing a G70 3.3 sport, anyone else having these issues or concerns with the headliner and not be able to get any help? I know it's been a while since someone has complained as last reply was in August. Just curious.

[/ QUOTE]

Moi aussi j'ai le même problème que toi;
J'avise mon responsable commercial de signaler le problème et j'attends sa réponse

I got my car about 2 months ago and it's really annoying (something is wrong with the clip i think). I went to the service centre and because I'm the first one, they don't know what to do.
t's an issue in korea and the people who were in charge of sunroof/headliner would come and fix it for them but I don't know what they will do in here.

I doubt they will do that, and according to people who had this problem it would make the noise again and again (unless they change the whole headliner).
I'm just scared because the mechanic said he had never done this type of fixing ( i hope it doesnt get worse).
anyways I'll see how it goes and tell you guys the results!

I too have the same problem, I will make an appointment at the Concessionaire de Quebec and I will come back to you.

When did you purchase your vehicle? and what trim is it if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't noticed it on mine, but the only time I drove with the stereo off, I could only hear my kids packs of gum and tic tacs rattling in the back doors so I am not really sure...

haaha I guess that's a way to avoid the noise loll. Nice to know you live in Edmonton! How you liking your 3.3 Sport? Anything you'd want to tell a new buyer.

I am still loving the car and have zero regrets with the decision to buy it. A few minor things could be improved as discussed elsewhere on the site, but nothing major. The engine and suspension and interior are still amazing and the fact I get to enjoy that for about 100km a day makes every day better. (y)

I also still have lots of people comment on the car asking what it is or saying it looks good. On Tuesday I was walking up to the car in a parkade downtown and when the lights folded out and shown the Genesis logo on the ground, there was someone getting out of his car on the other side and he was totally blown away. Then had to look over the whole car closely and thought it was really impressive and had never even heard of Genesis. And he was driving an S Class and liked my seats better than his.

Then less than an hour later I was stopped at an intersection with one of those guys with a sign saying "need money, anything helps". I was the 3rd car stopped and as he walked up to my car he flipped the sign over and it said "sweet ride". I have never had that happen before. And it is a sweet ride.

Nice. I am glad your liking it! What trim did you get? I am just skeptical on the headliner noise. That's the only thing that bugs me but I guess that all depends on the production of the car. I test drove the white 3.3 Sport and that had the headliner noise. Test drove a diff one and I dont believe it was there.

Nice! I am glad your liking the ride and the genesis definitively has a lot of features that other cars dont. I have a 2017 Infiniti Q60 3.0t and it definitely doesn't have some of the options as the genesis. and its one good looking car!
The car itself was very fun to drive on the test drive. have you had any experience with the service side of things? Just curious if anyone did to set how valet and manufacture warranty works.

+1 on this - no regrets on mine either. Had a guy next to me the other week roll down his window to ask what type of car it was and to tell me how much he liked it. Doubt if that happens a lot with many of the G70 competitors ... (well maybe the Alfa)
