  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

I have a 3.3T Sport RWD and have not noticed any headliner noises or creaks. I have a pretty rough road in and out of neighborhood, so plenty of opportunity for something to rattle. My cabin is tight and quiet, although I'm disappointed some of you are having issues.

I am still loving the car and have zero regrets with the decision to buy it. A few minor things could be improved as discussed elsewhere on the site, but nothing major. The engine and suspension and interior are still amazing and the fact I get to enjoy that for about 100km a day makes every day better. (y)

I also still have lots of people comment on the car asking what it is or saying it looks good. On Tuesday I was walking up to the car in a parkade downtown and when the lights folded out and shown the Genesis logo on the ground, there was someone getting out of his car on the other side and he was totally blown away. Then had to look over the whole car closely and thought it was really impressive and had never even heard of Genesis. And he was driving an S Class and liked my seats better than his.

Then less than an hour later I was stopped at an intersection with one of those guys with a sign saying "need money, anything helps". I was the 3rd car stopped and as he walked up to my car he flipped the sign over and it said "sweet ride". I have never had that happen before. And it is a sweet ride.
Hi did the genesis logo that comes up on the ground come stock

I have a similar issue with my 3.3t sport with alcantara roof.. There is a clicking type sound as if there is a loose nut or bolt or something of that sorts. My issue is only heard with the moon roof on tilt, otherwise non existant. Don valley north Hyundai has had me waiting over 5 months to get this fixed. Dunbasses replaced my windshield when I told them specifically it was coming from moon roof area. However they are picking up the car Monday and say it will be resolved. I will update..

Wow on the windshield. Just wow, lol. Good luck.

Oddly, my rattle went away all by itself since I posted about it. I'll take it.

Just give it a good tap like you did with computers in the 90's and it should work, right?

Genesis picked it up today.. So few days it better be gone or I'm going straight to corporate

If anyone has moved from a G80/Genesis sedan with the panoramic roof with the sunroof rattle issue, how close is this in sound?

I wish you could get a 3.3T sport without the sunroof, even just for additional structural rigidity.

Any follow ups?

I picked up my G70 3.3T Sport about 3 weeks ago. The noise/rattle in the rear headliner area started (or became noticeable) about 2 weeks ago. I've definitely pinpointed it to the rear headliner in the sunroof area. I just called my Genesis dealer and they aren't aware of the problem. I'm hoping that someone will post up a follow up that I can bring to the dealer when I go for my first visit. I DO NOT want to leave my baby at a dealership for a possible extended visit if they aren't sure what to do. I also just had my whole car ceramic coated so the paint is pristine. This car is very special to me and I absolutely cringe at leaving it for "test" fixes if you know what I mean.

The noise isn't heard much with the radio on, but I hear it enough to where I know I want it fixed. I also noticed that after about 20-30 minutes of driving it seems to disappear. Until I drive it again.

I cringe at the thought of somebody touching my headliner. So I understand.

I did confirm today that I can make the rattle stop by pressing up against the leading edge of the headliner just past the sunroof. So at least I know where the rattle is coming from. I'm going to talk to my Genesis (um, Hyundai) dealer soon and report what I've found. I do NOT want my car to become a test bed. I'm going to ask them to contact Genesis and see that they say. My dealer also should find a schematic of the interior roof to see what parts are in the area where the rattle is coming from.

Just bought a used 2017 G80 with the panoramic sunroof. Test drive it and specifically turned the radio off and went over bumps and didn’t hear the rattle. About one hour after purchasing it...there it is :( Same issue as everyone else passenger front side, goes away if pressed up. I read through the whole thread and didn’t see one person that’s had it successfully fixed. Did I miss one? Would love to know how it’s being fixed in Korea. I’m afraid to take it in - especially not being the original owner.

i wouldn't let them use my car as a guinea pig
if they said they don't know how to fix it I'd wait a while since its just noise
only if the case has no leakage or functional problems

That's what I'm thinking. My only real concern if whether or not this might be a warning sign of the potential for exploding sunroof problem I've read about. Considering getting a 3M film on that glass just in case.

funny how some people reported that they got the noise after applying tint films to the sunroof
my best guess is applying pressure upwards while installing the film caused tension on the joints displacing them and/or watery supstance used to install tint film washed some of the grease of the sunroof sliders/joints

That's why I want my dealer to look at a schematic of the roof area (along with contact Genesis) to see if they spot the likely issue. If not, there is no way I want the headliner removed. I'll just turn up the volume of my radio. That, and I'll be hoping, along with you folks, that someone will post details on how their dealer fixed the issue. And hopefully the name of the dealership so that my service manager can call them to discuss said repair.

I have the popping headliner issue in my late May 2018 build Design Edition. Took it in for repair and they installed a "kit" to fix the headliner popping. Well it worked, but only when the car was cool in the morning. After sitting in the sun with temps over 80 degrees F, the popping is back louder than ever. See my repair statement below. Goes back in to service on Tuesday.20190520_211037.webp

Dang.... That's got to be very frustrating...
