  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

It appears the creak is gone...

To follow up on my last post, I had come to believe that the creak was the result of the headliner adhesive becoming gooey in the heat and then sticking and unsticking to the headliner over bumps.

I wish I had a better idea of the procedure, but long story short, after making that discovery, I took down the weather stripping and inelegantly jammed my hand up into the headliner and under the airbag until I could get my index finger on the place the rattle was coming from. I could feel a lump of sticky adhesive binding that spot to the roof. With my finger, I separated the adhesive from the area that was making the noise. I resolved that I would go back later and try and add some felt or something.

I never got the chance. It cooled down overnight but the next day it was hot as hell, but the rattle didn't appear. The last couple of days have been the same... and no rattle!

So in summary, I believe that I correctly identified the problem in the end, and now that the sticky area is no longer making contact with the headliner, the creak has been banished to the land of wind and ghosts.

Fingers crossed that this remains the case.
Fingering dark crevices always seems to do the trick!

Could you post a pic of the area as a future reference for others?

Seems like sunroof sound issue is always happening for every manufacturer. I hope it's not something that would be very common. I hate those little rattles and noises.

I now have the rattle too.... Less than one month of ownership. It is a near steady very slight rattle that at first sounded like it was coming from the passenger door area. The more I listened and concentrated on the overhead panel area, I'm pretty certain it is the same that everyone else is reporting. At least with the radio turned up, the rattle goes away....

I hate problems and noises but I do love having a glass roof.

I took my G70 out for a 2 hour drive with my wife and I only heard the rattle, described in my early post, for about 5 minutes. I'm now okay with a short rattle span. I really do NOT want to have my dealership (Hyundai) to mess with my gorgeous Alcantara headliner. I'm thankful the rattle is intermittent and that I can accept it for now. I will still report it to my dealer for logging.

Is this rattle only in the Prestige (and Sport) package? The website mentions a “microfiber suede” headliner and I’m reading a lot of folks with this issue are referencing an Alcantara headliner. Wonder if this has to do with the premium headliner.

Alcantara is a "microfiber suede". Same thing. The issue is not with the Alcantara/microfiber suede only. It has happened with base headliner, too.

Took my G70 out yesterday afternoon with no rattles. Definitely intermittent, and not bad enough for me to have my Hyundai dealer dig into my headliner. Nope!

My G70 is the Sport trim with the microfiber suede headliner. I've never heard it rattle and I'm at 3,400 miles.

Update - I finally found time to get mine back to the shop. The headliner popping continued after the first attempted fix when outside temps were over 80 degrees and sun shining on the car. They tried more padding, but a no go. They are just going to replace the entire headliner to see if it fixes it. Praying they don't ef-it up!

If your dealer is going to R&R the headliner, would be nice if thy would let you get some pictures of the interior of the roof and inside surface of the headliner. If the factory is using some form of adhesive, foam tape, or foam backed wrapping on wire looms or similar that softens in heat, would be nice to see the location of all that.

I'll see what they will allow me when the replacement comes in. They are having trouble sourcing it since I have the Design Edition cream interior. May take a week or more for the parts if they have to be imported.

Same headliner rattle.... Seems to only last a few minutes into a ride...for now. 3.3 Sport 1k miles.

Mine is the Sport trim with microfiber suede headliner, too. I have 1,050 miles on the car. And I have the rattle as mentioned in earlier posts.

Please keep us posted. Thanks.

Mine is very similar, as it lasts typically a few minutes into a ride and then stops. Occasionally no rattle at all in a ride. Weird that it stops X minutes into a ride, isn't it? 1K miles on mine, too.

It's gotten hot (summer in LA)...and my car sits in the sun all day. I bet that is an issue. I had a Saab 9-5 with plastic speaker grills on top of the dashboard... One grill would pop off every time I went to Palm Springs in the summer.

Ah the quirkiness of the Saab ...

Any updates on the rattle? Is it still gone? The more I hear this rattle, the more pissed I get! Embarrassing when you are taking someone for a ride and they ask you, "What is that sound?"....

I had the issue in late April, as well. I don't believe it is heat related. Actually, as the temperature increases, sometimes (sometimes!) the rattle disappears.
