  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

Thanks Mcclean, you are super helpful. I don't have any faith in the replacement, but i feel the path forward may be to let them do it, then it's either fixed, or it's screwed up and I can a initiate buyback process. It just may be the beginning of a long painful process that I have to follow to move towards a buyback. Stil undecided.
My sunroof was making some creaking noises too. I Assumed its rubber rubbing on rubber. Applied some silicone lube and noise gone.

Wish me well. Tomorrow I go to a different Hyundai dealer to get oil and rotation done and when I booked the appointment, I spelled out that I needed the sunroof creaking/freeze up TSB performed. I gave them the new TSB#, I'm even brinign the full TSB printout for them. I haven't used these folks before so we'll see how they do. The other Hyundai shop I used to use is the most incompetent bunch of idiots I've ever had the displeasure of using.

Good luck. I’d be scared, very scared if they have to remove or replace the sunroof, disassemble the interior and pull your windshield out. You need careful and methodical mechanics and I’m not sure how many of those are at Hyundai dealers? Keep us informed what happens.

They only have to drop the headliner. They don't have to remove anything to replace the sunroof. Ask me how I know.

What CAN happen thought, is that they bend the headliner, and it doesn't return to it's original fit and finish. Ask me how I know.

OK, I assume you have been there and done that, but some here have said to remove the headliner out of the way, their dealer removed the front glass to slide the headline out of the way. If its possible to drop the headliner down and still have room to monkey with the sun roof, I stand corrected. Seems the headliner would be in the way to me but would need to visualize how the dealer has room to work?

Yes. They do NOT need to remove the headliner, or ANY interior trim. They just need to drop it, and it can be replaced. My dealer used specialists external to his dealership, and that is how they did it. I wasn't there, I did not watch, but I was told specifically many times this was how they did it. And I am told they would never remove the front glass, they remove the back glass. Removing the front glass requires a silly amount of work with the all the shit up in the front to deal with, is what I was told.

I know it's no fun to contemplate. It's really effed up that we have to go through this kinda crap. It's major surgery any way you look at it.

Well I dropped it off and he said "you're here for oil and rotation correct?" I told him yes and I wanted the TSB reviewed for the sunroof (I brought a copy of it) and he acted like "what?"? So he left for a few minutes and came back and said, this is a labor intensive job and you're looking at $500++. I asked if they would lube the tracks like the previous shop would do during an oil change. He said "Sure, it'll be $65" I told him forget it. I'd go back to the other shop who does it for free.

I thought if there was a TSB from Hyundai, it was a covered fix? According to him, it's not covered.

So I guess I won't be using my sunroof anymore at this point.

TSBs I think just help mechanics zero in quickly on known issues and potential fixes of systemic problems. No guarantee TSB is applicable to a given vehicle or if outside warranty coverage that Genesis will pay for the repair. Your better approach may be to simply say your sun roof has a noise/rattle issue and you want it fixed under present warranty coverage. Be prepared to test drive with the dealer so everyone hears the same noise and to prevent the dealer from saying could not duplicate. If dealer refuses to make corrections, get Genesis corporate engaged. Genesis knows they have sun roof noise issues for plenty of folks here have had theirs worked on.

I just realized I posted this in wrong area. My vehicle is the 2015 version and out of warranty sadly. So pretty much sunroof will stay closed until I sell the vehicle. I'm not forking over $500-1000 to fix.

^ ahh, that makes sense. i was wondering why this wouldn't be covered under warranty - as it was for me when the dealer took care of it.

i will say the sloppiness with which the dealer did the sunroof 'service' and lubrication makes me not want to get it done again. greasy fingerprints, overspray of lube, general mess all over the place, etc...

Why I got rid of it!

Hyundai / Genesis sure has a lot of freaking sunroof issues, seemingly.

Is there a specific type/brand of lubricant I can buy at Autozone to try to do an at home "repair" of my sunroof tracks?

Do you happen to know the TSB Number you gave them or where I could find it? I just hit 4,500 miles in my 2020 g70 and my sunroof rattle has just begun. It is starting to heat up in my area, but this, along with the headliner popping/crackling, is just driving me insane. I just don't know what to do as my dealer seems clueless as well to both problems. I have the best warranty you can get and the thing is brand new, so this has to be covered.

I also wanted to ask if anyone had any creaks/popping/ rattling in the infotainment area under the climate controls and above the wireless charger/ usb area. I'd say mine happens 60-70% of the time, and once it starts, it normally conintues until I stop driving. I can press on the plastic under the climate controls, to temporarily help it, but it often continues. Every small bump makes it start. Anyone know of a similar problem or a fix?

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Sounds like my 2014 335xi, one reason I sold it. My G70 so far has only had the popping/crackling noise near the passenger A pillar and hand hold only when it's hot outside. Hope it doesn't get worse. I've got 15k miles.
I don't know the TSB #, but I would definitely get it and take it to the dealer. If they don't take care of it, contact Genesis. Although as you probably know, others in this forum have had varied success with that.
It's ridiculous to have to deal with this on a brand new car. Good luck.
