If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

Ha dmine replaced by Genesis in September of 2020, it's still working as expected and noise free.
What is yours a certified used or did you buy a new? You mean Genesis offered to replace the whole headliner for you and that seem to fix it? Because they have repaired mind going on three different times now and it keeps making noises

Did you buy yours new or certified used? They replaced the whole headliner for you? I have brought mine in 4-5 times with 3 separate repairs done and its still making noise.

This worked for me.

Mine is happening around the area above each sun visor....just happens on bumps small and large ones....I have 1800 miles I will be taking mine in to have it repaired soon.

Mine was making the noise from the front area as well. Sliding foam in the front section of the headliner is also a good idea not just on the sides. Anywhere you can slide the foam into to more or less "fill in" the gap between the headliner and roof is a good idea. You want to try and eliminate any potential movement in the headliner that can cause the noise to occur.

I had the sunroof rattle along with the headliner "tacky / sticky sound" and this fix worked for me as well. The only issue is you can only get a handful of open/close cycles on the sunroof before the foam disforms and doesnt secure the foot of the sunroof enough. Eventually I just kept the sunroof closed and rarely, if ever opened it.

What type of foam product did you use and how did you insert it? Thanks

Sorry for the late response. The stuff I used was 1/2" thick....found here: Neoprene

The fix was 100% successful after doing it. The noise was completely eradicated after doing the neoprene and grab handle bushing fixes. After I did the foam it was 75% better, but then figuring out the grab handle was an issue too, it made it go away 100%. You just really need to get the stuff in there and try to fill as many gaps you can between the headliner and the roof. Use a long flathead and strategically slide the foam as far back into the crevices as you can.

I have had mine brought in 3 times. Whatever they did , it actually got worse. The dealer is frustrated too. After corresponding with corporate- “ try this, try that….” , they got Genesis‘ approval for a whole new sunroof. It is on backorder until mid-October. And then , I’m holding my breath that they have the skil to putting it in without messing up the car which is a 2021 with 3000 miles on it.

I got my car about 2 months ago and it's really annoying (something is wrong with the clip i think). I went to the service centre and because I'm the first one, they don't know what to do.
t's an issue in korea and the people who were in charge of sunroof/headliner would come and fix it for them but I don't know what they will do in here.

I doubt they will do that, and according to people who had this problem it would make the noise again and again (unless they change the whole headliner).
I'm just scared because the mechanic said he had never done this type of fixing ( i hope it doesnt get worse).
anyways I'll see how it goes and tell you guys the results!
We purchased a 2019 G70 new. The car developed a rattle in the panoramic sunroof. After months of running down the issue with 2 different dealers and Genesis customer service it was decided that the only fix was to replace the sunroof. Replacing the sunroof is a very extensive process basically the entire roof of the car would have to be removed. We did not want the car torn apart so we filed a Lemon claim with the BBB. Months later after arbitration finding in our favor, Genesis bought back the vehicle. The process took a year. We learned that Genesis knew about the problem in other cars but did not share that knowkledge with us. We wre very dissapointed with the Genesis customer service and will not be purchasing another one.

That definitely sucks, and must have taken a lot of time and effort on your part. At least you got a "favorable" outcome. I hate when companies hide or deny problems that many of it's customers are experiencing.

I'm sorry, the sunroof was replaced. Headliner, no. it's all f**ked up and I am fighting with them about it.

I have been fighting Genesis about this for the better part of a year and they will not help me at all. They refuse to acknowledge there is a problem even though I can hear it and have it on video, and the case manager I had told me besides suing them, they cannot do anything about it. This for me has tarnished the Genesis brand and I will never be back after this car. It’s a dressed up Hyundai with Hyundai service.

Yeah same here. I just joined today and I have had my 2020 for a short time, but I'm already noticing some of those same issues.

I wouldn't even consider taking my car to the dealer to replace the whole sunroof, especially if Genesis doesn't know the root cause of the rattle, or if they do, they don't care enough to fix it. Just try some of the fixes posted within this thread. I fixed mine with some $14 foam tape.

I have g80 2018. Having same roof issue cracking poping since i bought this car used in april this year. At 28k miles right now. Been to dealer twice with multiple problems but out of 5 none was duplicated. Contacted corporate and they told me to go to different dealership which i am going on 13th so hopefully they find out something but if not then will try one more time after definitely will take a legal way to fight with them. Idk if the dealers are not getting paid enough for warranty work or they are too scared of fixing such a repairs. But before i give a forever bye to hyundai I’ll definitely do something to let them know they can’t just sell us a car with issues and don’t honor.

So my 2019 is the latest to have this issue and (I am in the same boat as it appears Kirk here, mine is behind the passenger side front handle at the right rear corner of the sunroof, (sothe gap between that corner of sunroof and and the pillar). If I push up on the headliner in that area i hear a pop, nowhere else in the headliner does it do this i tested all areas. My car has 18,000 miles, has been gently driven, my car has been perfect until this showed up in the the last few thousand miles, and isn't always making noise so i too think temp might have something to do with it. @Kirk how big of pieces did you cut the neoprene into, I want to try your neoprene fix but also am terrified of getting something stuck in there where it blocks the interior shade from closing. Can you describe how big of pieces you cut yours into?

i stuffed some foam tape into those notches, but no change, so how much foam tape should i be stuffing in those notches? enough to make it solid and not compressable, or just a little so it still has some play? when I'm looking up there, if i push on the headliner in certain spots i can see it flexing, but its silent, which is baffling.

Wow, I'm really surprised how long this thread has been going, and that Genesis still has not found a permanent and factory fix for this issue. Back in 2019 I was active in this thread because my 2019 G70 3.3T Sport had the same annoying rattle. I feel really bad for everyone. In the end, I learned to live with the muted rattle issue by having the radio on all the time. I just didn't want the dealer to tear into my headliner. While driving, the rattle would sometimes disappear for a short period of time and then re-appear. But now it is gone forever because I sold it back to my dealership two weeks ago for a nice price, and bought a 2022 Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige. I absolutely love it. Same Himalayan Gray paint color. And the full sunroof works like it's supposed to. Here's a quick photo.

I hope one day soon Genesis will do the right thing and absolutely correct this roof rattle issue once and for all on new sunroof equipped G-70s. And finds a permanent fix for current owners that works. A car at this luxury level should not still have the same issue years from when it first appeared.

Bought my 2019 3.3 Sport about 5 months ago and had heard some occasional movement noise from the panoramic sunroof, but it has become pretty constant now. Don't know if this would be covered by warranty as I am 2nd owner, but I plan on contacting dealer this week to see. Love the car, but hate unknown/unsolicited noises...
