In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Any Original Genesis Owners Still around?

I truly believe that cars are like people. Some good. Some not so good. Owner experience with any make or model will vary. In my household we've purchased six Hyundai vehicles since 2006 (one of which is my 2009 Genesis 3.8 with 34,600 trouble free miles) and, aside from normal maintenance, none of the six ever needed a repair. Contrast this to eight Cadillacs I have owned, six of which were troublesome and resulted in my swearing off General Motors.

I have 2009 3.8L Tech package with 273000KM's ( approx. 170000 miles) and I am the original owner. I really love the car but have been plagued by a few issues over the years.
Here's a list of issues I've had.
1) Telescoping steering switch replaced twice within warranty. Stopped working again out of warranty. Have not fixed it again.
2) Windshield wiper linkage seized up. This was due to parking under a maple tree for years and some of the keys that drop from the tree got stuck in the linkage and rusted it out over time.Replacement was $700.00 CDN installed.
3) Reverse Camera failed just out of warranty . Dealer wanted $500.00 for a new one. Found the exact one on eBay for 120.00 and replaced it myself. The replacement has since failed again but I have not replaced it yet.
4) Took it in for the CEL coming on and the dealer ended up having to replace the timing chains, gears, tensioner, cam shafts (due to change up cam gear/VVT design), along with the cam sensor, crank sensor and OCV. They also replaced the oil pump due to a low oil pressure light at idle that stared AFTER the timing chain/gears etc where changed (pressure was down about 3-4 PSI only at idle). That did not solve the problem. Turns out putting in 10W30 instead of 5W20 solved the low pressure at idle situation. Cost $3700.00 !!!

I have done synthetic oil (5W20) changes every 10-12000 KMs with OEM filters.
I have replaced the pads/rotors all around twice now. I am on my second set of summer tires and about to buy my second set of winters.
Coolant was flushed at around 150000Kms.
I also had them replace the spark plugs when they where doing the timing work. The was $420.00. I took a look at the old plugs and I think they could have gone another 50-100000Km's. Damn Iridiums are expensive , plus the fact the intake plenum has to come off. What a stupid design. LOL.

So thats a bit of the history of my car. Even though this last bill was pretty big, I still love the car. I feel like it fits me like a glove. LOL.

Purchased fully loaded 2010 3.8 in June of 2014, with 60,000 miles. Now ready to turn 90k. All recalls up to date. Only problem has been the ventilated drivers seat fan went out. Only driven in nice weather, and at least 40 miles per trip. Made trips from PA to Alabama, and to western Michigan this past summer. Both trips averaged 30 mpg, ( measured by fill ups, not computer), driving 70 to 75 mph. Beats everything out my Lincoln Town Car. My only minor complaint is that the ride is quite stiff, as opposed to the "party barge" Lincoln. Smoothness of the ride to me is excellent.

10' purchased with 19k miles in 2012 and just hit 81818 this morning. All TSB's and recalls performed. No other issues with the car.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
We still have our second Genesis 3.8 tech purchased in 2012. It now has 59k miles. Had a couple issues with the driver side window electric switch and several issues with the adaptive cruise but only after a deer collision 2 years ago. On the 3rd set of tires. Car still gets compliments and rides well.

Original owner of 2012 4.6 pearl. Wiper motor replaced under warranty. Problems at times with sound from radio but dealer can’t duplicate it. Intermittent problems with window not going up. I have a problem with the seat support ( not good for my back). Passenger seat makes passenger feel low in the car. I have 50,000 and getting ready to replace brakes fully with centric parts/ will let you know. Even with annoying little things I love my ride.

I'm an original owner and still around, but our 2009 V8 Genesis sedan was traded in last year for a 2016 Equus Signature V8. We also traded in my wife's 2013 Azera earlier this year for a used 2015 3.8 Genesis HTrac.

Nothing really wrong with the 2009 Genesis except it had 100K and Hyundai wasn't forthcoming with Nav updates for the one year only Nav system. The ride on the '09's wasn't like later years and so when we got a decent deal on the Equus we traded it in.

We might have kept the 2009 Genesis for my wife except my wife has been infected with "AWD-itus if you drive in winter" from her sister. Even with a great set of snow's on her Azera couldn't stop the nagging she got from the sister. When the differential went out on the Azera at 98K miles we traded it in as soon as Hyundai swapped the tranny unit under warranty. She was also never happy with the Azera V6 needing rev'ing the pee out it while climbing major hills to put out HP/torque and the V6 in the Genesis has great low end torque which closed the deal. It too now has a new set of Pirelli Sottozero 3's.

Owned mine for a year and I am very pleased... As with any used car, there have been minor issues. I drive a lot and I just passed 100K miles. The ABS module went out over the summer and that was replaced under extended warranty. The computer adapted to my driving style a while ago and is significantly more responsive (Or I understand how to drive it better, plus I turn off Trac control when I know I will not be using Cruise control). I also removed the magnets on the "flap" inside the air intake. For a 2012 it still looks really modern and the led strip on the headlights still looks fancy enough for me. The Scottsdale dealership has an offer to trade up to a newer and lower mileage model (or Equus), and I am considering that. However I don't think I want to part with the 6 disk dvd player and the 17 speaker lexicon. I put another amp plus a 12 sub in the trunk over the summer too, so the entire system is not only extremely loud, its very balanced and that deep bass is so satisfying. If you have the dvd player and haven't heard a dvd audio or SACD disc in your ride .... you are missing out on a very unique feature that few other cars have. Streaming or compressed mp3s sound fine but when you really want to unlock the potential of this sound system, you may have to pay up and buy a DVD-A or SACD from ebay. Heck even normal CDs sound far superior than mp3. I'm a little disappointed that newer models don't even offer these options, as if the are outdated or no longer relevant. Bluetooth and apple play are great but I like to have options. I also have some movies in the changer too ;). Over all this car is fast, luxurious, and still a little mysterious. Is it perfect ? Nope, its a machine, but I'm a great driver and I try to be responsible with my maintenance and courteous on the road. Unless you are in front of me going too slow...

Original owner of an '09 4.6 non-tech. 130+k. Only issue of note ('cause it just reared its ugly head again) is having to replace the cabin heater two winters ago (no heat in the cabin in Wisconsin in the winter is an issue), and it just became an issue again. A ? $1k fix, so I'm hoping there'll be some cooperation on Hyundai's part. We'll see. Otherwise, frankly, I'm solidly in love with the car, and at the 10 year mark will likely turn it over to my son. Both the interior and exterior have aged very well. My brother has an '14 3.8 AWD, mostly due to my experience with my Genesis, and while it has much more current bells and whistles, I prefer my old car's external styling. Sure, it was derivative, but in a great way (IMO). The proportions were near spot on when the car was introduced; I feel no differently now. I remember distinctly "rolling the dice" with a new car introduction, but am happy that the bet has paid off handsomely.

Original owner of a 2013, bought in Feb.2014 with 33 miles on it. Now it has 37k miles. A few problems so far. First problem radio died and lights on right side buttons on steering wheel went out. When I was getting my first alignment done, they couldn't get it right. Came the second time around and 3 hours later try finally got it aligned. Today I had the cel on and also driver side window motor went out. The diagnosed the cel. Throttle body problem. Right before cel came on i put the car in park and it started revving up on its own. I turned it off and turned it back on and drove around and it turned off. They didn't have the part. Waiting for warranty claim to go through. Other than that, I still like the car and planning on keeping it for the long haul.

Bought it as a leftover 2012 R-Spec in 2013. I have 57k miles on it now. Its been through the dealership service department 2-3 dozen times now, though all under warranty. Feels like 1/3 of the car has been replaced. The last bout of repairs would have run about 4 grand had it not been covered. One of my headlights needs to be replaced but Hyundai declined to cover it so I'm waiting for it to completely fail, if it does before I sell it. Currently saving for a downpayment on a used E63 and hoping for much better quality (though I am well aware it's much higher maintenance).

I have about 75k on my 11' 4.6.

Had a sunroof replaced because it wouldn't close.. Under warranty and was actually a big job for them(saw the car apart after forgetting something in it).. Actually had to order the part from South Korea.

Nothing else to speak of after 50k miles of ownership(bought CPO).

I am getting ready to do the brakes/rotors but every car needs that after this long.

Still love it although i'd prefer a little bit more exhaust noise without going with an aftermarket exhaust. Just something enough for me to hear. Shrug.

I have a Mercedes E63 and an E500 Mercedes. Traded in Mercedes E350 a few years ago. So, unless you just want the insane speed of the E63 (which I did) , the Genesis is much more reliable than Mercedes. BTW, since my 2011 Genesis 4.6 was traded in we miss it a lot.

Original 2009 V8 Tech since day 1...now have 200KM's on it!
Changed brakes last year...still love the car to death!

I have a 2011 3.8 with the Technology Package. Bought it 4 years ago as a
CPO with 20K miles. I now have 88K virtually trouble free miles. The only repair to date was a lower control arm that came "unbolted" while backing out of the driveway, and after some back and forth, it was covered under the extended warranty I purchased with the car. The dealer talked me into the warranty by telling me how much it cost to repare/replace the radio/nav system when it breaks. The radio/nav system does have occasional hiccups, but I'm loathe to have it tinkered with because I somehow have free satellite radio! The OEM Dunlop tires were crap. When I bought the car, the dealer replaced them for me with Pirelli P-Zero Nero's, and they were OK for about 15K miles until the road noise became unbearable. We're now rolling on Continental Pure Contacts and after 30K miles they're still quiet and barely show any wear. I'm getting around 29 MPG on the highway with the CC set between 75-80. In town, the mileage is closer to 20 MPG - mind you all on regular gas. Maintenance averages around $40 every 5K miles. I still have the original brakes! The last service check still show between 7 & 8mm of brake pad left (mind you most of my miles are on the highway). I also own a 2014 Mercedes E350 4Matic and I prefer the Genesis for the interior room and smoother ride.

2013 3.8 Base, leased new and bought after lease expiry. Car has 45,000 km and has had zero issues. Just replaced pads and rotors. Excellent car.

We still own a 2009 V6 Gen that has 42,000 miles and runs like a top. Looks brand new inside and out.

I have a very early 2012 Non R-Spec 5.0 with 104xxx miles that I bought as CPO in early 2015 with 38k on it and all service done at the dealership since new. Every once in a while the transmission gets a bit wonky on the 2~3 and 4~5 upshift but otherwise it's been a great car. (the tranny shit didn't show it's head until after it hit 100k, go figure...) anyways... It's comfortable, fast and actually pretty ok on gas as long as I stay out of the fun pedal.

Now that it's mine free and clear, I'm planning on holding onto it for a while, although the dealership keeps trying to buy it off of me due to it's immaculate condition when I bring it in for service. Told them if they find me a '14 R-Spec with sub 30k miles, I'll do the deal. :ROFLMAO: I don't like the 2g's so it's 1G or nothing.

I'm curious, what don't you like about the 2G?

Since the invention of the automobile we've been taught that the new model is better looking and we must have it. Now you go ahead and upset the marketing people. There have been cars though, that new is not better IMO.
