  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any Original Genesis Owners Still around?

... although the dealership keeps trying to buy it off of me due to it's immaculate condition when I bring it in for service.
In my experience (somewhat limited) dealers claim to want to buy my cars regardless of how old they are. The reason is they want to make a deal on a new one, not because they really want my used car.

Bought our 2012 3.8L tech/prem pearl white Genny in June of '11, 76K miles still own it. Some minor issues...

Let me re-phrase, It's not that I don't 'like' the 2G per se, I just don't like it enough to buy it. In my personal opinion, the body lines of the 15's and up just don't grab me. I want to like it, I really do, but between what they did with the grill, (which seems to be emulated on most new cars from the Audi's to the Toyota's) to the rear roof line and the almost hatch back looking trunk, I'm just not a fan.
I also don't like how the interior feels or looks. They'e added all sort of whiz bang features and technology, but then stick a gaudy looking analog clock smack center in the dash. It didn't feel right in the Chrysler 300 and it definitely looks out of place in the Genesis.
Again, don't get me wrong; it's not an unattractive car, I'm just not feeling it. For me to drop the kind of coin they're asking, it's really got to grab me.

I absolutely LOVE the way that the 12-14 sedans look. It's a mix between an E Class Merc and the 5 series bmw. It's a big car that doesn't feel or drive like a big car, unlike the 15+ Genesis and G80's that I've driven. To me, they feel big and bulky and I feel like I'm in an old mans car. I'm not necessarily a young guy anymore, but IMO, the G80 makes me feel older. Lets see what happens when the G70 comes out, but in the meantime, I'm holding out.

You're absolutely right.. They're just trying to clear inventory and get their nut for the month. Odds are, unless the trade has low mileage, it will end up at auction anyways. Upper tier lenders won't finance a car with higher mileage.

bought my Pearl White 2012 3.6 With Premium Pkg in July 2012. It now has 39,000 miles on it and is exactly 5 years old today. A/C compressor replaced as part of a recall (it was making noise and actually quit while taking it in for the recall). Head unit replaced twice (w/2012 units) and finally replaced by the dealer with a NEW 2014 unit (Head unit and Brain) from a NEW 2014 Genesis 5.0 that was waiting for parts from Korea. It would have cost Hyundai/dealer 2 months of a rental car if they waited for another 2012 head unit to be sent (a known problem with 2012's, apparently). I ended up with a newer unit with upgraded maps, etc. Under warranty I've had to replace the turn signal/headlight stalk (headlights flashing when signaling a turn) and the drivers side mirror which would not always return to the original position if using it in tilt-down mode when in reverse. I am on my 3rd battery and attribute some of the electrical related issues to the Hyundai the independent Roadside Assistance tow truck that jumped my car when "dead" at 18K miles .... they used a "tray" of daisy-chained batteries (6 of them) and managed to fry the original head unit - this leading to the multiple replacements I experienced. Overall I really like this car and might look at the new G70 when it arrives.
I've owned a 2012 Genesis 3.8 L for 8 year and it has been very reliable. The original tires were very noisy so I changed them. I've been going to the Fitzgerald Hyundai/Genesis dealer and they take very good care of the car.

2013 Rspec 5.0. 114000 miles
I wish the sound system was much louder and the front seats are not very comfortable especially the passenger.
Yet the car still looks great and I cant see the value in the newer models. My 5.0 engine still is smooth as silk when at idle and can blast on the highway no problem

I’ve owned my ‘12 3.8 for 9 years. Getting ready to pass it on to my son in the spring. Only 46,000 miles on the clock and an extended warranty that runs till Sept. 2024. The $1,299 warranty has nearly paid for itself already and has 4 years left! With the pandemic raging it only goes to the local stores these days.

That's low miles on your '12! I've got 71,500 miles on my '09 4.6. This car has been great to me, I've really enjoyed the ownership experience.

We pamper it now. It’s the second car nowadays with the ‘19 Santa Fe doing most of the work. Still, it drives like a new car and has added no rattles in 9 years!

Yours is doing great! Enjoy it, we are both getting our money’s worth.

Purchased my 2009 3.8 on July 18, 2009. Just crossed 47,000. Never spent a dime on repairs. Drives and looks like the day I purchased it.
That’s true for me as well. Never spent any of my dimes on repairs. The primary and extended warranties have covered the few problems experienced. The most expensive (extended warranty) problem was for a new rear sunshade motor. It has been my most reliable vehicle ever. My BMW 2002 was the most fun to drive, but also a lemon.

I bought my 2013 Genesis RSPEC 5.0 in June 2014. Original owner, and proud. Have 34000km on her, and that is approximately 20,000 miles for my American friends.

Car runs fine, and only issue was a defective head unit within the first few months of purchase.

Happy with car, and its a long term keeper.

Just wondering who else is an original owner of the 1st GEN Genesis, and how is it going?

I bought a new 2011 3.8 sedan new, put 262,000 miles on it. Last November I bought a 2011 3.8 sedan with 150,000 miles on it, now with 165,000 miles. I'm a believer!

I purchased new in 2009! I have 257k miles on it. She still runs great and body is beautiful. She is in the shop getting new a belt. This is the first time I have replaced the belt.

2013 Genesis RSpec purchased new March of 2013.
Currently has 11,600 miles. Yes, not even 12,000 miles.

Dec 2020. Now at ~35k. Just replaced the OEM Contis with a set of 245/45 Michelins. What a difference.

I own a 2009 Pearl White Genesis 4.6 beige interior with all options. I am the original owner Florida car only. Love the car! I have 15K miles on it, no dings, garage keep. Dealer offered higher than blue book but I said no thanks I have a new car and I think the 17 speaker lexicon on the original genesis is better than the 2nd generation, watch videos, Eagles DVD cannot beat separation of instruments.

Sounds great. Enjoy, especially that super A/V system.

Purchased our new 2011 4.6L Genesis in January 2011. It's the best car I've ever owned, and I've never had anything fail on it. It's kept garaged when not driven, and it has 162,000 miles. Still looks great -- inside and out! It's been regularly maintained by Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta.

Bought my 2009 Genesis 3.8L with Tech package pre-owned back in 2010. At almost 11yrs, it is the longest ownership of any vehicles I've ever had. Great car! However, pushing 12+yrs old, little things just started to fail. Not impossible to fix up and keep going, but not easy to do as a college car for my son attending an university 250 miles from home.

Just bought a 2019 Kia Stinger, so the venerable Kimchi Mercedes will finally be retired. Just called the NPR.org donation program, and it will be leaving to perform a final aria of good deed.
