If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Any Original Genesis Owners Still around?

Owned my 2009 Genesis for 12 years. 128,000 miles later I sold it defensively, thinking I'll bite it before it bites me. Within 1 month of my 2009 purchase, I replaced an oxygen sensor under warranty. Hyundai paid for everything else (all recalls) except for consummables for all twelve years. Best car I've ever owned. Under-priced and over-engineered. Hope I have the same luck with my new (to me) 2018 G80 Ultimate.

Been here for a little while, way before buying the first V8 2009 that was sold in GA back in Nov 08, then came the delightful R-Spec which was totaled by a wild deer in Dec 18, that in turn forced me to do a two for the price of one deal in the same month...
Conclusion so far? With 250k combined miles later, I still think it’s hard to argue against the safety (the R-Spec saved my life), the peace of mind of 10/100k warranty and/or the overall value of each and every purchase...

Bought my 2011 v6 10 years and 3 months ago, only had oil changes and a self drain-and-fill coolant change. I had to replace the ECU at $2700 a couple of years ago at 34000 miles. Original battery tested failed, but still running so far. It's a road trip car that runs highway miles so just currently at 43000 miles. It's been on-street parking the entire life and could use a nice detail, but no visible corrosion.

wow you dont drive at all! with my 09 I really love to drive it, see the miles climb and still going strong.

I bought my 09 4.6 in 2010 with 30k on it. I have 151k now and love this car. I've replaced suspension parts (listed) with OEM from sparekorea.com in Jan 2020 to keep the ride smooth and am very happy I did. Other wise it's been oil changes, tires and light bulbs.

It was kind of inconceivable how badly Hyundai USA messed up the suspension on the original Genesis sedan. I think the roads in and around Fountain Valley, CA (Hyundai USA headquarters) must be buttah smooth. Thankfully they got the message and fixed things somewhat with the 2012 mid-cycle refresh. Ironically the roads in and around Seoul are amazing.

That combo brings back such fond memories...

bought my 2012, 4.6L new and have 208K on it and still going. Great car, so fun to drive. Starting to show the miles and I'm kinda done fixing every little thing that breaks at this point. Still looks good for the miles. Just regular stuff, but had to put a new starter in this year. I wonder what the most miles on a Genny Sedan 4.6L is?

bought my 2012 3.8L with tech package in 2015 with 14k on it and now has 83.5k. Best car I have owned in terms of well everything. nice looking still get compliments, everything very tight and quiet, all the soft touch surfaces are impressive and of a high quality. First rear wheel drive I have owned since my 85 cutlass supreme. The ride is still very good, handles well, excellent power and the paint is still perfect. Only issues Transmission replaced under warranty due to 2-3 shifting well documented issue. Also had to have moon roof slide rails replaced. My only concern is that my platinum CPO warranty is up. Should I keep it enjoy it and no payments? or should I move on to a later model with warranty. Tough decision considering i am about to do a complete brake job and tires. I plan on doing the brakes myself but parts have gone way up in price.

I wouldn't bother with any aftermarket warranty. I had my '09 3.8L for over 10yrs and since I bought it used, I drove many years without warranty. I only needed to do regular maintenance on it - brake fluid, brake pads, spark plugs, serpentine belt, etc. All easy stuff. the only thing that I didn't expect was having to replace the steering rack rubber boots. Really wasn't that bad either. These cars were built like a tank.

That said, it is my experience that once cars reach 10+yrs, no matter how well-built they are and how reliable they've been, things do tend to start giving up the ghost - especially electronic and electrical stuff. The CD changer in my '09 Gennie jammed up when I was trying to get the very last CD out, just before the truck was scheduled to pick it up.

Replaced it with '19 Stinger and '21 G70.

Thanks for the reply. With the transmission out of the way, I agree its probably throwing good money after bad regarding a warranty

Original owner of a garage kept white 2009 4.6 Genesis with Technology Package since December 2008 and only 16,000 miles. The original suspension has gotten better with age a little stiff and not bouncy. You feel the road when driving like driving a four door vette with an awesome audio.

I am new to the forum. I've really enjoyed reading peoples' experiences with the Genesis sedan so I'll post my own.

I have an 09 4.6 Genesis Sedan with the Tech package. I bought it used at ~80K miles back in 2013. Now it's 2022 and I have 183K miles on it.
I've had to replace the alternator, battery once (used an AGM battery), starter, some AC repairs, a brake sensor, steering wheel control (so I can move the steering wheel up and down), and replace a door handle. I am just now approaching my first major repair....

The story with that is I've burned through 4 sets of Michelin tires from Costco in ~15K each. Thankfully, I've been able to get credit back each time via the mileage warranty. I took the Genny into my trusted NAPA shop to investigate and they found a variety of suspension issues. They said the car underneath looks otherwise good, and I use synthetic oil.

For the repair I need to replace all the front control arms, various shocks, and some other suspension related things. Parts from the dealer alone are running me ~6000 but labor is ~1500. I was considering buying another used Genesis, but I must have a V8, and prices are so overly inflated. I had to decide... do I put more money in the car than what it's worth, or do I spend 3x that on another used Genesis and take a gamble. So I went with the devil that I knew. Here's hoping it turns out ok.

183K! you're an inspiration. I was wrestling with a trade decision at 83K (my current mileage). Need a pad and rotor brake job and tires. The only thing about this current market that is not so bad is that if you shop around good money is being offered for your trade.

The motorized steering column acted up on my '09 too. It was sporadic and I found a TSB on this problem, so it's commn enough. Mine was out-of-warranty when it happened so I didn't get it fixed. Thankfully, it was sporadic and usually only in 1 direction, and since I'm usually the only driver, I hardly every have to move it.

I did also have to change out a couple of the control arms that started to get clunky at around 7-8yr mark. I found the part numbers I needed on one of the online microfiche OEM parts databases. Then matched the part number to ebay listings of the same parts, which were way cheaper shipped directly from Korea. Installation was fairly easy, so I did it myself.

I'm original owner of 2013 R Spec sedan. I now have about 73,000 miles on it. I've had to have a rear bearing replaced and the multifunction switch replaced all under warranty. I do all my own oil changes at, 5,000 mile intervals. Factory recommended is 7,500 miles. I'm a "car guy" and love working on my own cars, plus saving money!

I'm not original owner but I've own since 2013 . Best car I've owned.

I bought my 2011 Genesis 4.6 in November of 2012. It had 6,000 miles on it and was sold as used. But it has never been titled, so I am original owner with full OEM warranty and I didn't have to pay delivery fee. It has now 60,000+ miles.

Head unit amp was replaced once, AC compressor was replaced, one or two recalls were done, all under warranty. Plus I bought Hyundai Platinum extended warranty. The car is doing great, especially with Michelin summer tires. The best car I ever had.
I was first to reply to OP back in 2017. I still have my Genny, the best car. Now have 95,000 miles.
