Never saw the need myself but some do it. You may want to check your state law. None allow the full windshield to be tinted.

Some states seem to crack down and check you.
I think he said in another thread that he's in SoCal, so legally you're not allowed to tint the windshield and the driver/front passenger windows should not be darker than 70% VLT. I've heard (from a sheriff friend) that most cops out here have bigger fish to fry than worry about your windshield tints, assuming you're not a dick to them.
I did mine for the heat rejection and boy does it make a big difference when I compare it to my brother's Q50S (no windshield tint and sides have lower heat rejection film). Heat soak will still be a thing if you leave the car out all day.
