  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody installed Genesis OEM mudguards?

Thats where I bought mine. I got the flaps and a bunch of oil filters.

Darn...forgot to order oil filters when I bought the floor mats other stuff. Oh well, I suppose I'll have to pick them up at the local dealer. I heard they run about $7 bucks...which is cheaper than the local parts store.

Has anyone found any valid coupon codes to the HyundaiAccessoryStore.com site? Otherwise, they're the same price (with shipping) as getting them from the local dealer. ($35 Front - $49 Rear Plus Tax.)

There was a guy on here selling them for a few hundred dollars painted. The guards are so small, I hardly notice them.

I bought a set of black painted mud gards for my 4.6 tech black about 4 months ago from a Hyundai dealer on this forum. The paint is all coming off because it looks like they just painted them black and left out the step of priming with the plastic adhesive before painting. I expected when they were advertised as painted that they were PROPERLY painted.

My work to the wise for anyone here - have them painted yourself so you know what you are getting. IMO having them painted to match the car truly enhances the lines of the car, and having them not painted is distractive to the lines of the car. -Jim

Agree 100%. Having them painted looks so much better on the car, in many ways it makes them blend into the car and unnoticed, which is what you want IMO. Also, painting plastic is a little tricky as paint doesn't bond to plastic as easily unless you prep the plastic properly, and if you do it wrong, it will come off, especially since that part of the car is being exposed to the most corrosive things on the road.

I think my situation harks back to all the customer service threads. I truly thought that as I was getting it from a Hyundai dealer, and he told me his paint shop painted them, that I was getting a good product. When they first went on they looked absolutely fantastic to the point I would have thought they would have been worth coming on every Genesis sedan - it really does look that good.

I'll eventually get them repainted by someone I know and trust.

It's 90% preparation and 10% application. Hard black plastic is tough to paint. If you are the one putting the mudflaps on and off, I would suggest putting some clear film to protect the paint underneath. Water, and small pepples or sand, or pretty much anything will start to seep into the gap between the mudguard and bumper. It's not a big deal, but if you ever want to take them off one day, you may find an unpleasant surprise. It's pretty easy to do. Check out video on prep work.

Found this close up picture of rear flaps. Anyone of pics of them on their car?...especially further back to see how noticeable they are. My first thought was that mudguards would destroy the cars clean look but then I realized my Toyota Avalon and Acura TL both have them and the only time I notice them is when I'm chipping the packed snow and ice off them.

None of the photos of mud flaps on this thread are the flaps for the Genesis, although this photo is close.

I would hate to think that some guys think the Genesis flaps looks like some of the other photos shown in this thread. The Genesis flaps are look small, but they do the job.

My local dealer (not my selling dealer), Jenkins Hyundai in Leesburg Florida installs the mud flaps even before he puts the car on the showroom. Customers think they come standard on the car. Jenkins now also adds the Winged Emblem to the trunk, and the Lip Spoiler. Sounds great until you find out that all their Genesis' have a $5000 "Bump-Up" sticker added to the mfg sticker. His Genesis' sure look fantastic though.

Visited my selling dealer, Orlando Hyundai this past week. He has sold out of his 2009 Genesis'. What he did have (in 2009's) was a Black Demo V8 Tech with the Winged Emblim on the trunk, and on the wheel caps. (Can't remember if it had a lip spoiler). Also has one other 2009, not sure if V6 or V8 that the owners wife, (or managers wife) is driving. Did not see this one.

I'd love to get the mud flaps but $200 seems kind of steep. I've seen pictures of the Pearl White but I have a feeling it will turn in color over time. Hyundai should have painted ones from the factory to buy.

Is this vendor a good one to do business with? I'm a newbie and have yet to figure out who the best aftermarket suppliers are. Many of you seem to have good luck with the vendors on Ebay. Any advice for someone who doesn't even have a permanent plate on his car?

Here are some pictures of the flaps installed on my Genesis. These pictures aren't great quality, and you'll have to forgive how dirty my vehicle currently is. We had a lot of rain this weekend but it's on the way to be cleaned later today, but I thought it might give you an idea.

Looks pretty inconspicuous on a dark car, which is a good thing. I think on a lighter car the contrast makes them stand out, which is a bad thing. I wouldn't even paint them if I had a black or dark blue or burgundy car.

That's pretty much why I decided against painting them. I would have been much more likely to paint them if I had a silver, white, or other light colored vehicle.

ttsig,

I think they look pretty good for "splash guards" and I'm usually not a big fan, but they're small enough to look nice. Heck, with my black Genesis I wouldn't even have to have them painted!

Thanks. I should have searched for that thread earlier. They look look very inconspicuous. Makes one wonder if they are even very effective. The flaps on our Honda and Toyota are considerably bigger.

Has anyone tried installing one of those plastic films, like StonGard?

http://www.stongard.com/productoverview.aspx

I brought mine to a body guy for pin striping and to put the mud guards on my white satin pearl 4.6. It cost at least $200 to paint AND upon installation he noticed that Hyundai Accessory Store send 2 rear sets. HAS is now sending me a painted set of fronts. They do come out beautiful. Black would not be noticeable I think on a dark color, but I'm not sure about white , grey or silver. I'll post photos next week.
