  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm thinking about upgrading the bulbs to Osram but would like to know the OEM bulb brand first without taking the car apart.

I can't say I am 100%, but I think it is Hella.

they are Sylvania's, and there is an upgrade available. The Osram Xenarc 66144 CBI bulb rates very well. More info at the Retrofit Source or HID Planet.

Thanks guys. Retrofitsource is having their annual thanksgiving sale so I figure I might as well take advantage of it.

Post back with your opinion of these bulbs, or better yet, before/after or right/left pictures, thanks.

Are the bulbs on the Genesis sedan hard to change? Haven't seen a "how to" around here. I wonder how detailed it would be. Some cars require the entire headlight assembly to be removed.

wow! 200 clams. <gulp>

^ +1

Hope my headlights never need replacing!!

Are these lights a BIG improvement or just marginal? Are they street legal?

I think you just remove the air box on each side and the back of the headlight is right there. I'll probably also aim up the headlights a bit when I'm in there. I should have the bulbs tomorrow hopefully so I'll get them installed this weekend. Got em for $160 with the TRS Black Friday deal :D

Good deal. Looking forward to comparison pics.

Changing the bulbs is NOT an easy DIY compared to any other vehicle I have worked on.

The reason is (sure the lights are pretty accessible) but once you're in there, the bulb is held in by 2 freaking screws!!! Tiny, stupid goddamn screws.

Drop one of these screws in the light and you might as well bend over and...well, you get it.

Every other car I have worked on has retaining clips, this thing has screws. Just a fair warning.

Aaaaaand that's why I'm going to have the dealer do it. I did a little research and found what you described. I've done projector retrofits before and have no desire to mess around with small screws in headlights.

So unfortunately there won't be side by side bulb comparisons but I will post before and after night pics.

After looking at the manual, it appears the headlight assembly needs to be removed from the vehicle to replace a bulb. Luckily, it looks like the light assembly comes out with the removal of three bolts. I don't foresee this being too hard of a job.
