Anyone concern with the Genesis Low Sales Figures

Genesis sales figures Sept.09- 1,665. Acura TL was 2034.

My concerns are that Genesis numbers are the sedan + the coupe, while the TL numbers reflex the sedans only. The Genesis Coupe can be had for under $25K, while the TL is around $32k on the low side.


These are low numbers for both cars but Hyundai has at least twice the dealers as Acura for there cars at present.

Maybe there is just a simple reluctance in spending 40K for a Hyundai right now.. Crawl before you Walk.. I dont think any cause for real concern.. in the long run, the quality of the car will go a long way to gain acceptance..

I am quite sure that the news of the improved 2010 suspension is a big part of the slow Sept sales. Hyundai originally included the suspension changes in a web page announcing the 2010 sedan, but removed mention of suspension changes a few days later (probably after dealers complained to HMA).

The Genesis was never meant to be a big seller. If I were Hyundai, I'd be more worried about Azera and Veracruz sales, or lack thereof. The sales are pretty in line w/ the economy. If anything, the coupe is likely faring worse than the sedan.

So what are you trying to say...... that the TL is a better car because they have sold more units? .... According to that logic the top 6 best vehicles of all time are

1 Toyota Corolla
2 Ford F Series
3 Volkswagen Golf
4 Volkswagen Beetle
5 Ford Escort
6 Fiat 124

I guess if you can sell this many units it proves these are really good vehicles.... lol

Keep the sales low I say.....I like being the only person in my area with a Genesis.....

As for comparing sales with the TL.... Not exactly apples to apples...

The gs460 or M45 would be better


Infinity seems to group the m35 with the m45 and the GS isn't listed but these at least are rwd v8 sedans....

not sure anyone is cross shopping a v6 fwd lux car with a rwd v8 performance sedan...

Sorry, but that is the reason for the slower sales in Sept. The good news for Hyundai is that 2010 sedans "are flying off the lots" and will sell very quite well IMO. The fact that Hyundai has improved the vehicle and that the future is bright for the Genesis should be cause for celebration, not for attacking other members of the forum.

The list is skewed by the fact the rankings include all-time sales since 1886 (no, that is not a typo), and not sales in a given year. However, most of these vehicles were outstanding in their price class during the years the racked up those sales (some of them many years ago), so yes it does prove they were very good vehicles for the money when they were sold.

Regarding the TL, let's wait until we see 2010 model year sales, not just sales for the most recent month. Aside from the hideous looks, the TL is actually an excellent car. Also, the TL is probably a little less money than the V8 Genesis.

BTW, we don't know what the Genesis sedan sales were world-wide in Sept, do we? Probably much better in Korea and other locations outside of North America.

I think you have to keep in mind that the TL is made by a company that has already been established in the minds of many as a luxury company. The fact that the Genesis sold even half as many when it's in it's first year and Hyundai didn't bother with all the "Luxury" branding should probably make Acura concerned. Some people will simply not buy a Hyundai because of the dealer experience alone. I'm lucky that my dealer treats me great, whether I'm buying my Genesis or my daughters Elantra, but this doesn't seem to be a universal experience. Actually, it appears many people experience the opposite, especially compared to the "luxury" experience.

I'm pretty amazed the TL sells at all because I hate the current styling, and pretty much everybody I know does as well, although I also know a small percentage of people that love it. Appear to be very much a love/hate thing with the exterior, but otherwise, the TL seems like a pretty awesome car.

Sorry Scott, but the truth is that Genesis sales slowed in September because the 2010's are coming out and many people want to wait. I never said that everyone can handle the truth, I just said what the truth is, in direct response to the OP of this thread.

What do you mean "flying off the lots"? Here in Central Florida, there are no 2010 Sedans to be had. (My dealer has about six 2009's on the lot). A week ago, My Florida Dealer said that there were only 4 2010's in the whole state of Florida. When I was in Western NY last week, I checked with the largest dealer "network" there, and not only did they not have 2010's, they never got a 2009 V8 until late summer.
