I purchased a 2013 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec in July, and I LOOOOVE my new car! But I've had a problem with my rear driver's window that has happened twice already! It has decided to roll down on its own! The first time it happened, I couldn't roll it back up, so of course I went straight to the dealer, and they couldn't replicate the issue, but they traced it back and found that one of the pins were loose, so they tightened it, kept it overnight to make sure it didn't go down again and sent me on my way the next day. The second time it happened, I was fortunate enough to be able to roll it back up, and again went straight to the dealer, and again, they couldn't replicate it. Told them that on both instances, it was an overcast/rainy day, so wondering if water/weather might be an issue. On the second trip to the dealer, they kept it overnight (again) and ran water over the closed window, but it didn't go down. I've since spoken with the Regional Manager of Hyundai who even got their lead engineers involved with the repair and so far haven't had it happen again, but I'm wondering if its only a matter of time before it does. Has anyone else had this problem? This is my first brand new car and as much as I love it, I'd hate to have to replace it for something else! Any help you all can give me would be appreciated!

Its been mentioned on here before and it is a great idea use your phone to capture the malfunction as it happens that way the dealer/servers manager can not give you the well it works now speech. Most folks that have done this get all parts replaced that visit and the gremlin magically goes away. In your case there is one thing that makes that window motor activate and that is the window button switch and the wire that connects the switch to the motor...... sounds like it or they need to be R&Red. Get your malfunction on video and you should get resolution next visit. They can't argue with a video of the switch being pressed and the window not going up that is if she decides to no want to go up again.

Good Luck the car is great the Dealers are its downfall.

Thanks for the tip, but both times it happened, I was away from the car. The first time happened while I was sitting in a restaurant around lunch time (luckily I parked right in the front, and there was nothing to steal!), and the second time it happened was at night, and I noticed the window was down when I was leaving for work at 5:30 in the morning! I'm praying that it doesn't happen again!:o

I don't recall anyone mentioning that specific problem on this forum. In general, power window technology is amazingly reliable on the Genesis and most other cars these days compared to 20 years ago.

I wonder if there is a bad sensor in the window that lowers it if it thinks there is an object in its path when being raised, that is the root cause of the problem. I am not even sure such a sensor even exists on the rear side glass, so I am just guessing.

First I've seen this problem. Unfortunately as with most things in new cars...it isn't as simple as the window motor, 2 switches (driver's door and back door) and the wiring in between. Windows now are usually controlled by the car's CAN bus. So the switches go to a computer that in turns actually controls the window. Remember there are anti-pinch sensors, the driver has a window lock botton, auto-up/down for the front, etc...all these need to be controlled and interlocked:o

What may I ask was the solution?

Unfortunately I don't have a solution to offer...just offering the insight that a window moving on it's own can be caused by a plethora of electrical gremlins. It's not as easy as just checking the motors and switches:( Especially if the windows are going down when he's away and the car is "off".

Your best bet is to document heavily and look into lemon laws in your state. More than likely a complex electrical problem like this won't go away easily. Its almost always a short in these cases where a wire is bare that shouldn't be and will ground under certain conditions and cause behavior like this.

I have the exact same issue with our 2013 Genesis as stated by MUMU808 except it is both back windows and randomly does it in wet weather. The first year we couldn't duplicate it for the dealer nor capture video of it happening (which is random and usually when the car was off and we were away). It hasn't happened in over a year and now it is doing it again. Does anyone have a solution or know what the issue might be? Thanks for any advice

has your driver side window ever been cracked when raining or gotten wet? My passenger side did this and it was due to driver side module. With both your windows rolling down...that is a pretty clear indicator that the master module is messed up

I just had the same issue. I didn't try the back windows but the front windows would roll down but not back up. I'm leaning towards the pinch sensor since it would move quarter to half an inch up before stopping but eventually it wouldn't move at all. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes off and when I got back in, it did roll it all the way up. It is overcast here and normal humidity. I also have the intermittent no audio issue. This is a used 2011 4.6L Sedan. At 79,000 miles, this should not be happening. I have a 2005 Elantra I got brand new and it has 198k miles, but never experienced any issues with any of the functions of the car. Any direction would be nice. I am planning on looking in the door myself for loose or exposed wiring/connections.

Thank you for the reply. No, that hasn't been the problem as we have tried to double check everything to determine the culprit. Thanks for the tip on the master module. We took it to the dealer and he confirmed that might be the issue, however they couldn't duplicate it so still working on the resolve.

make a video of the switch action when the window is stuck down, showing that you cant make it go back up.

Yes, good idea. I did that last week and sent the video to the service department. They believed me, however they said that unless their tech can "witness" the malfunction they cannot file a warranty claim or replace parts. They only thing the tech could verify is that "one" of the rear switches in the back seat was not working. So, they replaced that. They did not replace the front module or the other back seat module as by the time I got it to them the water had probably evaporated (just a guess). Anyway, they were nice about it and told me to bring it back immediately if it happens again so they can witness... Which I imagine is going to be a lot of back and forth as we don't even see it happen at times. We just find the car with the rear windows down and it is usually raining!!

As much as I loved that car, I ended up selling it back to the dealer after owning it for less than a year!! It ended up being at the dealer for service more times than I can count!! I took a huge loss, but I just had enough of going back and forth with the dealership and the service department already! Ended up buying another Lexus and don't regret it one bit! My husband is talking about buying a Hyundai SUV but I'm a little hesitant only because of what I sent thru with my Genny.

so I just wanted to piggy back on this thread because I just went through this issue with my 2013 Genesis rspec- only during rainy weather would my window roll down- conveniently drenching the interior. I took my car to the dealer along with a video (suggested on this thread) The dealership refused to look at the video citing that they had to witness the malfunction themselves. I was given the car back after 2 days because they were unable to duplicate the issue- it happened again and I immediately took it into the dealer- luckily California had been experiencing a lot of rain and the car actually duplicated the issue at the dealership- 3 times in fact! 2 days and tearing through every possible scenario- the end result was a loose and exposed connector. They have ran water over the car and it seems to be fixed- if anyone has this issue- press that they check the connectors in the window! Good luck!!

I have a 2011 3.8 sedan, and I am having similar issues, except now, the window is stuck in the middle. Won't go up or down but other windows are fine. I thought maybe lose wiring, so I've removed Driver Master Window Switch and reattached the connectors but still did not resolve the issue.

I've decided to look for a replacement, but the dealer wants $400+ for a new one.. -_- I got lucky and found a local seller, but before I go there I wanna make sure the one he has, 93570-3M400A5/93570-3M500AJ, will work for my 2011 model.

I'm assuming the parts should interchange with 2009-2011.
My part# is 93570-3M502A4

But I've all seen..
93570-3M400A5
93570-3M400A4
93570-3M500AJ
93570-3M500A4
maybe more?

My guess is different color, batch and when it was made? But it will still work on 2009-2011 models.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

First- you're not crazy :-). We love our Genesis except for this issue, which is as you describe. We did the video of the Windows not rolling down when we used the switch but couldn't duplicate the random down roll also I had them view the link to this blog to read. Problem is Hyundai will not honor the warranty or change the parts unless the tech witnesses the problem- even with the video- so I was told. We finally got the rear right window to refuse to go down using the switch for the tech after a rain storm. They replaced that component in the rear right and now we keep the window locks on unless a passenger really needs to roll down the window 😝 So... I don't know why or even when as we run it through the car wash with no issue as with the water hose. But the common denominator for has been for us rainy weather for multiple days. I will say the evidence helps your credibility as we went to two different dealers, but the duplication of the issue is random and I haven't found the trigger. We left the car with them over a series of day to watch and I asked them not to leave it outside. I think they did because the back seat was saturated when we picked up the car- but it dried and we felt with the mold and now all seems to be fixed. So- lock the windows and I hope that helps. Also, the service department did treat us with respect especially with multiple trips complaining of the issue. They told us to come back if it happens again and they would resolve. Good luck.

Hey guys! Has there been any concrete solutions found to resolve this problem?

My wife has the Genesis today (2012 Sedan)...and its freezing raining/sleeting. On the way to work this morning, about 5 miles from home, the rear driver side window went down on its own and it WON'T GO BACK UP! So here she is at work all day with the car out in a parking lot with freezing rain relentlessly coming down inside the car...aside from that, if she can't get it to go up by the time 5 o'clock rolls around, she then has a 45 minute commute to get home...in 28 degree, icy conditions! I stopped by her work and fiddled with it for 10-15 minutes with no luck...then I had to get to work.

We've brought the car to a dealership about this 3 times in the past and of course, they couldn't replicate the issue and told us that "nothing was wrong" so we contacted Hyundai corporate, whom then sent us back to a dealership and they claimed to have "replaced a switch" (or something to that effect) and the issue still wasn't resolved. She loves the car (as do I), but its completely unacceptable that we can't drive it any time it rains!

Please tell me that someone found the perfect solution!

I have posted here previously, but I don't see my final post where we solved the problem. Here is the truncated version, so let me know if you need more detail.
Yes, I experienced this never ending, never proving to the dealer sorrow for about two years. However, it finally was resolved. We have a 2014 Genesis and we love it... The rear windows going down were a mystery... while it was parked and we were away, and sometimes driving... Always in rain or just after rain (never in a car wash and never running a hose over the car). The dealer techs could never duplicate and with no fault of their own Hyundai requires to duplicate for warranty repair. We showed them video of it down and me trying to roll up, but we never caught the act (random act) in motion and by the time we drove to the dealer usually in dry weather it repaired itself. So... We got with the service advisor and kept him on alert when it would happen..We had a standing appointment to come in during the rain when it happened and he would rush a tech out. This fixed right rear... then the front driver on another occasion.. then finally the main culprit the rear left... Got 'em all witnessed - needed to keep a towel in the back seat and the leather was soaked more than once... But they replaced the switch, and other "boards" which solved the problem. There is frustration when you are told you are the cause by doing the action inadvertently during the rain and not noticing, etc...so don't get frustrated with their doubts.. Just keep trying to get the tech to witness. Once he does, then it should all be covered under warranty and repaired. I hope!!! I wish you the best.. Again the car is great with this one issue thus far - 80k miles for us to date.

By witness... I mean having them try to roll up the window and it not moving when the switch is activated. If they are telling you they need to see it go down on it own.. then fight that, because that would be a losing battle as it is "random" and not in all rain weather...
