  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Audio On Unexpectantly

I also just turn down the volume.. whole bunch easier.

My last 4 cars - domestic, japanese, german and the Genesis have had voice commands. I have yet to test drive or own a vehicle with voice commands that was worth a darn.... for me voice commands are just about useless... 'pardon?'

Honestly, I don't know the big deal with turning it down. Which is why I asked "should I be turning it off"?
When the majority have no issues with this, you can't help but wonder what the minority are doing differently.
Not casting aspersions, but wondering.

Very simple. Things should work the way they are supposed to work period. That is what I paid for. Does make the Genesis a bad car but it is an issue that should be addressed by Hyundai if enough complaints come forward.

Yeah I get your point, but that's like saying "if only my wife understood me the first time I said it". As for the audio problem, unless there's a reason to turn it off it reminds me of "Doctor, it hurts when I do this". He says "don't do that".
Not saying there isn't a glitch in your system, just asking why not avoid what irritates you?

Fair enough but how do I ignore the issue when I do not want to listen to radio and the system upon start up insists that I do. Kind of a control issue for sure. And yes the reason to have it off is because I want it off. Not the end of the world. Providing Hyundai with feedback, assuming they monitor this forum, may help make it an even better car in future.

The only way to avoid it is to turn the volume all the way down. Takes 1 second to give you/us peace and quiet.
Once again, pursue it with your dealer or Hyundai if it's really a problem to you. And I ask again (out of ignorance) is there a reason to turn off the AV after every drive?
Thanks.

With all due respect, I am not sure why you do not understand me. Sure I could turn the volume down until I get to the dealer but that was not my point. I though perhaps there was some other "work around" that would address the issue. As far as turning off AV after every drive you are assuming that it was ever on which is by far not usually the case. This may seem odd but as a musician, I sometimes would rather just enjoy peace and quiet while driving and not get involved, as I do, listening to the music. Difficult for me to be a "passive" listener.

FYI,

for future reference if you hit "EDIT" on your post that had the typo you can correct or change anything you want, without having to post a 2nd post.:)

Thanks Scott good to know.

FWIW, I had a 2011 Genesis that did this.

There are many times when I prefer peace and quiet and would never turn on the radio. When I'd start it up and the radio came on, I was unable to turn down the volume or have it respond in any way except to have the display at the top of the screen say AV OFF. I have to repeatedly press the button a number of times to shut it off.

On a 2011 Genesis loaner, it did the same thing, and as it was a loaner, nothing was "plugged in".

It was sort of a minor annoyance since I could always eventually get it to work with one or two expletives and a couple of button pushes. Not a code.

I am still dealing with it but have found that for the most part if I can get the system to respond to the AV Off command and then shut down the car, the next time I start the car the AV remains off. Pushing the left control knob on radio, always several times, does not accomplish the same result. Many times the AV command is just ignored. Oh well..

Just going to chime in that my 2010 Genesis V8 with Tech package does this 9/10 times upon startup.
I do have an ipod connected, and it always starts playing when I turn the car on. I have left it unplugged a few times and the A/V off when turning the car off. Next time I turn it on the radio turns on. Very annoying. Dealer says nothing they can do.
