If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am trying to play my recent newly purchased Itunes music from my Ipod nano and/or transferred them to a flash drive and even tried recording them to DVD disk. But strangely only the older mp3 songs previously in my itunes library will play in the Genesis from the Nano & Flash drive & recorded DVD. Maybe it's because the new songs are downloaded as a purchased mpeg 4 format ACC file? Not sure...

The new songs are not recognized at all on the Genesis via the USB flash drive or the Nano, even though they show up & play on the thumb drive (on computer), and Ipod Nano play fine thru that device's ear buds. Any help is appreciated, but please keep it simple.

I would hate to have to change their mpeg 4 format to mp 3 as I am not even sure how to. Ahhhhh technology...

You might try a different flash drive. I transferred a bunch of mp3's to a SanDisk drive and the Genesis didn't recognize it. I then copied them to an HP drive and it worked fine.

Youll need to convert to Mp3

And this is why I stopped using Itunes + it's headaches....and switched to Windows Media Player (which I really like).

All my music plays on the Genesis now via flash drive.:)

Flash drive is the way to go!:D

How big of a flash drive will the Genny recognize and what format does it have to be in? NTFS? FAT32?

I have a 16gb drive that I would like to use.

I use 16GB - works fine

As I suspected. Thank you Jake, no one knew this answer at the dealership or at Hyundai HMA. Hopefully Hyundai will do an update/upgrade to the system to include mpeg 4 codec at some point if the wheels squeek enough :) Kinda of a hassel for customers to jump through these hoops needlessly...I wish ITunes would offer an option to download purchases to mp3 instead of mpeg4, that would save a stitch in time too lol. But just try to contact anyone from there without getting crosseyed!

In the meantime I found this free converter (link below), from Cnet.com and am now in the process of converting the said music to play in the Genesis Lexicon sound system.

Update> The converter worked easily and the music plays effortlessly now in the Genny. I transferred converted music to a flash/thumb drive. If you do use this converter after download, in the setup menu located on the bottom right side click setup and change the default bitrate of 128 to 320 and the freq to 48000 for a best sound quality. Hope this helps until TPTB decree mpeg 4 functionality in the Genny's Lexicon sound system.

The short answers are:
a.) There is no realistic drive size limit.
b.) FAT32 only.

If you would like more info on this topic, to learn how to re-format otherwise incompatible drives into FAT32, and/or to read the detailed process myself and a couple other posters followed to reach these conclusions, please read through this thread. Most audio USB-playback questions regarding the Genesis are answered there.

That will hapen when hell freezes over, since AAC is the Apple default format and helps prevent customers from jumping ship to non-Apple hardware.

Hell did freeze over one time (when Apple introduced iTunes for Windows in 2003), but don't count on it happening again.

the latest version of iTunes allows you to convert AAC to MP3, so that you don't need a separate program.

Interesting, care to elaboate in more detail the exact steps to do this? I have the latest version here & checked through all ITunes advanced options and seen under importing files from say a CD can be changed to mp3, but is not applicable to my newly downloaded purchases from the ITunes store...which was the main issue & the focus of this thread.
(Note: these settings do not apply from songs purchased from the ITunes store)

if the AAC file is protected, which is normally the case when you buy from iTunes store, i usually burn all the files into WAV (CD) format, then import back into iTunes so that the files would be stripped of all copy protection.

i do have some unprotected AAC files, which can easily be converted to MP3: click on "advanced" tab, then select "convert to MP3".

i hate AAC also. i try to buy MP3 songs only, and often buy from Amazon.

ACC files do have advantages, such as being able to start where they last left off when you restart the playback device. This is not a big issue when playing short popular music tunes (3-4 min), but can be irritating when playing longer music tracks, lectures, recorded books, etc.
