If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just picked up my 2010 V8 (no Tech) Genesis on December 28 and I live in New England. I’m concerned that there may be a problem with the HVAC Auto control. In my previous car on a cold morning, once the engine warmed up enough to provide heat and on the Auto setting, the fan speed would increase to max to get the car up to the desired temperature quickly and then gradually reduce fan speed and air temp to the selected temperature. My Genesis increases fan speed but only to about 4 bars (I think there are 7 or 8) and warms the interior very slowly but does gradually reduce fan speed as it finally reaches selected temp. The air that it is blowing is hot but not forceful. I have been manually increasing the fan speed to warm the interior faster and once I get comfortable, I hit the Auto to maintain. Is this normal for other Genesis owners or does your fan speed go to max to get the interior warm fast?

BTW, I have checked the rear center console to make sure it is also blowing heated air.

:cool:We don't often have cold weather in Sunny South Florida where I live, but the past two weeks saw temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s. (Not cold by your standards, but major freeze by ours).

My Genesis 3.8's heater worked wonderfully!:)

It heated the car rapidly (after the the engine warmed up - which took about five blocks of city driving), and did it without blowing a tornado.

Here's how it seems to work - First you set the desired temperature, then based on the interior temperature of the car, it blows automagically only on your feet, then, as the car warms up, it splits the heating between your feet and the A/C vents.

Very nice, no tornado of air, and the fan adjusted itself downwards in speed as the car warmed up.

It was as good or better than my Infinity, Avalon, and old Lexus, which had similar systems. The Genesis was much less drafty, and heated the passenger compartment very uniformly, without hot spots (nor cold spots).

Yes, the manual fan and duct controls work, but I didn't really need them (other than I played with them to learn how they function).

My take - a well designed system, that does the job in a manner equal to the "best of breed".

I wouldn't change a thing.:)

I would say this is "normal" for the Genesis. For the last two weeks or so we've been in the high 10's/low 20's which probably balmy for a New England resident but seems like "frigid cold" to us southerners (SC). I found that the Genesis never really cranks the fan up when on the "Auto" setting although I could get it to 6-7 bars if I really crancked up the temperature.

At first I thought this was bad, but after some time, I'm less sure. I tried manually turning the fan speed, and comparing the time it took to warm the vehicle, and I'm not convinced the difference was as staggering as I expected. The system makes a lot more noise when the fans turned way up, but it only seemed to make a marginal difference in the time it took me to find the temperature comfortable, and it seemed to warm the interior much more evenly.

In the end, I've become pretty happy with the auto setting and, other than minor tweaks to the temperature I pretty much leave it alone.

I'm surprised at how fast yours seems to heat. I have a 4.6 in Round Rock, Tx and when the temperature is in the 30's outside, mine heats up very, very slowly. It takes about 4-5 miles for the temp guage to come off the peg and that includes a wait of over a minute idling at a traffic light at my development about 15 blocks from start. After it 'finally' gets up to temperature, it heats fine naturally, but I am due for a 6 month service next month and will bring this up.

I have a problem with the A/C also. I came home from the golf course Tuedsay and the outside temp was 61. I drove 7 miles home and the A/C was just barely putting out cold air when I got there. The inside temperature was warm but not overly hot when I started out, but it never got really comfortable. I think my heating and air are not working properly.

BocaDave, I cut off some of your post in my response and I evidently cut off the end of the 'quote' control characters. For the others, My post begins with "I am surprised'.

True that The ENGINE is not the fastest to warm up, however once the needle starts to show engine heat, the "Auto" heat does cut in, with a "slow and even" heat. Mine does this with the local temps in the high 20's, and also when I was in Roswell last month with temps in the teens. Car did not heat any better when I put the blower on high. Just leaving it in Auto, (no sound from the fans) works just fine.

BTW, I have the "Tech Pkg" and I normally drive it setting the "Info" button, and I watch the "Fan Speed" the small picture of where the blower is blowing air, (floor, dash or defrosters), plus the outside temp and the settings for the driver side and passenger side temperatures. I love watching (on a cold damp morning) the display switch from defrost, to floor, to floor/dash to dash only. Defrost only comes on as needed. I think that the same sensor that talkes to the automatic wipers, also tells the car if the windshield needs to be defrosted. I love it.

I do love the auto-defog as well. I notice it most morning now that its cold. As I drive away its usually blowing on the defroster vents. As soon as the windshield is completely clear it shifts to floor and the blower slowly gets faster as the engine temp comes up. As soon as the car is warm the blower starts slowing down. One thing I do find odd is the temp I have to keep the system on. I don't require a lot of heat and in my '06 Avalon I would set the auto temp to 68-69 to be comfortable. In the Genesis I have to set it to 75-76. My girlfriend cranks her side to 79-80 with the heated seat on and swears the heater in her Elantra is much better.

You can get a seat heater in an Elantra?????

The seat heater in our Volvo is like an Inferno. Our Acura TL...takes a good long time. The Genesis is somewhere in between.

Have you tried setting the target temp higher? maybe that dictates how high the fan will blow?

No her car doesn't have heated seats, I was referring to when she rides in my car she cranks the heat up on her side in addition to the heated seat. I have never even turned my seat on, I've had them in previous cars... hate them!

The target temp does influence the fan speed. The higher the temp the faster the fan will turn until it reached the target temp, then it will slow way down.

Milwaukee Wi. Mine works the same as yours..........

OK, that makes more sense. IME, smaller cars heat up faster (less car to fill.) Our van used to take forever to warm up.

Yeah, I tried this today. Stated the car, the ambient was 50° and the interior was set to 74°, and the fan was on two bars on Auto. Bumped the temp to 85° and the fan went to full speed. So, its the logic of the car hw the fan works - you can either raise the temp and the speed will go up on auto, or you can increase the fan speed yourself, if you want to change it.
