  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
According to a Business Week news article, here are the average transaction prices in the USA "last month" (presumably April 2014) for some of the competitors of the Genesis:
  • Cadillac CTS $54,571
  • MB E-Class $55,788
  • BMW 5 Series $56,284
These are the average selling (or transaction) prices regardless of engine, features, packages, etc. As some have noted, MB-E routinely sells for $10K under MSRP for the last several years at least.

Considering that some people are now paying MSRP or more for a 2015 Hyundai Genesis, which for a loaded V6 is $52,450 and a loaded V8 is $55,700, that is pretty interesting. Granted a loaded Genesis has more tech features than the average MB-E or BMW-5, but prestige factor is still pretty important to most people.

Interesting however what is average price? I cannot see how one can compare average with a new release which just entered the showroom in very limited numbers IMHO. So what is the average price on their list of a Genesis? Probably $35,000 or less. ;)

I can guarantee you the release of the totally redesigned MB C class this fall will bring list prices back to C series also. This is pretty much normal on any new highly innovative and anticipated release. A minor refresh or small improvement never commands much. Right now is a good time to pick up a previous gen genesis as here you get an $11,000 rebate right of the bat with no negotiation. This price would be fairer to compare because all the models you listed are not new releases in short supply. As everyone knows it's supply and demand mixed in with what customers are willing to pay.

Hopefully the average selling price of the 2015 Genesis will come down substantially, maybe back to about $4,000 off list (which was the average discount over the last few years, not counting the recent bargains on 2013/2014 stock they are almost giving away).

But there are people who are paying MSRP or more right now for a 2015 Genesis, and for some trim levels that is right up there in MB-E and BMW-5 territory, so that was point that I found interesting. BTW, the average price on BMW-5 and MB-E presumably also include some V8 models they sell, as well as those customers who buy a loaded V6, and those who buy a base model. It is the average selling price of all new car transactions for that broad "model."
