  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Awful vibration/humming with rear windows open

I was thinking defective as in maybe nobody else had this issue, and maybe my car was in an unreported accident and some body part was causing the resonating noise that's all.

fwiw, i have observed this in 11 genny, 94 camry, 11 Sierra, 06 taurus ... and also several rentals over the past year or so (but don't remember rental specific models). this isn't unique to the genesis ... but it is annoying.

Go ahead and add the following cars to that list:
  • 02 Honda Pilot
  • 04 Honda Accord EX V6
  • 06 Honda Odyssey Touring
  • 12 Honda Crosstour Touring

All of them had the same air pressure "flutter" that increases with speed.

The best way I found to reduce the problem was to manage the oscillation with windows at different levels. Having your rear windows slightly more open than the front seemed to work well. Since most vehicles have limiters on the rear windows being all the way down, open the front less.

Only exception would be a convertible, where it is expected that people will be driving with top down, etc, at fairly high speeds.

With all four windows down, the harmonic vibrations can start as soon as about 45-50mph. On a really nice day, I love to drive with the windows down and the sun-roof open. Almost like having a convertable! Just have to turn the stereo up a little more!

Just crack a front window slightly or sunroof- it is simply pressure buffeting.

I just got rid of a Toyota Camry that has the same problem as the Genny, maybe even worse. I simply don't drive with the back windows wound down.

Just open the back windows 1/4 of the way down.
