  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 RSpec sedan. Sometimes when I go into reverse the video of the backup camera will be scrambled . Has anybody else experienced this?

Describe "scrambled". Do you have a pic of this?

I've never experienced anything that seemed to be a technical issue with my back up camera, I have noticed depending on the weather, even when not dirty, it does fog up sometimes.

I cannot recreate the problem right now, but the screen will have a broken up picture that cuts in and out. If I take the car out of reverse and then go back into reverse, the image will return to normal. This is an intermittent problem that occurs every once and a while.

Pixelation occurs with a weak signal. If you can find the connections I'd check for corrosion starting at the camera since it the most exposed.

In my 2011 4.6 I tend to get a scrambled signal from the back up camera on occasion when it has had a heavy rain. A day later and it is good again. Likely a damp / poor connection at the camera in the trunk. But I haven't found a solution for it yet. Sorry.

I have the same problem from time to time. But I also get nothing from time to time also. I suspect I have a connection somewhere with some moisture in it. Just been to lazy to take apart the trunk lid trim to get to all of it.

I suspect getting in there an cleaning up the connectors and maybe a bit of dielectric grease would clear up the problem.

I get the same problem but mainly in the summer, heat seems to cause a bad connection somewhere. Once I had a large package in the trunk that was pressing on the trunk lid and the video went completely, so I think its in the trunk lid somewhere but like others just lazy.

Hyundai back up camera are garbage. I have four friends with Hyundai cars and we all have a black screen when back up. The dealer ship told me that they have about ten call a week with camera problems. so I purchased a camera from eBay and it works find. dealer wanted to charge me $1500 for the camera plus install. CRAZY.

Can you provide a model # etc of your backup camera? During the summer and high humidity I get the black or pixelated screen.... :)

I've got a '13 rspec as well and I also have this problem. In other situations, the back up camera shows up, but without the colored line guidance. After a moment or two it comes back.

I noticed when I go to the car wash, there is always a lot of excess water trapped in the trunk. I'm starting to think that water is getting into the trunk and messing with the camera, but that's just a random guess.

It has happened twice with my 2012 3.8L tech package and one time I just hit the trunk where the emblem is and fixed it lol but Also recently my XM radio went out so I ordered a new Shark Fin and when I took off the old one there was a lot of corrosion near the navigation and XM which ruined the circuit board. Since I live in SoCal it doesn’t rain but I wash my car myself a lot so now I’m careful around shooting water near or directly at the Shark Fin

It seems everyone that has bought a backup camera from ebay or anywhere else are ALL unable to reply what model they purchased for the one's that really need that help

I replaced my backup, license plate and trunk lights with LEDs and when I did, I took off the trunk lid carpet. I saw a few connections and unhooked them all, sprayed with electronic cleaner/lube/protector and reconnected.
Every since then (6 months ago) my backup camera issues are 100% gone. Maybe I was lucky or may have something to do with it???
either way, worth a try

I spoke too soon. The other night after a day of rain (high humidity) we got in the car after dark and the back up screen was scrambled. I shut it down and restarted everything and it smoothed out OK.

I did this as well (2010 3.8L) even though I noticed no corrosion of any sorts. But apparently a bath and some lubrication made the connections happy;). I've had no scrambling of my camera signal which, in the past, was 90% of the time in the heat and humidity of summer.
