  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to check out the Coupe. Sat in one in the showroom. 3-4 minutes later an employee comes up to me and tells me that they have a time limit for sitting in a car. I asked what is their limit, he paused and then asked how long I was in the car, I told him 30 seconds, he then said, well, then the limit is 25 seconds. I walked away.

I sent an email to their sales manager asking for explanation for such treatment, but never got a reply. Probably this is the way they treat their customers and he didn't see anything to apologize for.

Just FYI.

Wow. I wouldn't have walked away.

You should post this up at www.cardealer411.com

P.S. You should go back with a cell phone video camera and get him to do that again. Post in on YouTube and Hyundai will probably GIVE you a Genesis Coupe to pull it down and shut up about your experience... That is officially the dumbest thing I've ever heard in regards to sales experiences.

I've officially changed my mind about buying the Equus... I just don't care anymore...

Take a deep breath, Sal. Surely you wouldn't eliminate a potential purchase based on an isolated incident at a dealership on the other side of the continent? If the Equus is truly the right car for you, don't you think you'll be able to find a reasonable dealer when the time comes? I know you're in favor of HMA setting up independent dealerships for Genesis, Equus, etc., but it's not likely to happen any time soon.

Anyone willing to bet me $100 that I can't find a similarly clueless salesperson and/or dealership - for EVERY car manufacturer - without too much effort?

That's not a bad point - but I would definitely bet against you finding anything like this at any of the major luxury dealerships. If you did find one, I'd probably have already died of natural causes. :p

The story pisses me off so much that I just may decide against buying from the brand altogether. I'm an *******. Between my bad experiences and hearing of other stories as bad as this one, I'm really losing faith in Hyundai.

How long has it been since you've showered?

Sal, I understand your viewpoint, but of course I think it is SUPER important to keep in mind how news travel:

A person sees a terrible movie - they tell 10 people

A person sees a great movie - they tell 4

My Hyundai dealership experience was by far the best treatment I've ever had from a dealer.

My brother who was at a Subaru dealership in 2005 said they would never honor the student discount (called VIP discount) which at the time was $2,400 off any Subaru.

He walked, went to another dealership and they treated him great and got the VIP discount and had a pleasent dealership experience.

Something to keep in mind.

I'm a firm believer that if you have a certain vehicle that you absolutely want, do anything it takes to get a great experience. Bad dealer? Go to another dealer.

I was just lucky and I only had to visit the first dealer I went to, which happens to ONLY sell Hyundai vehicles.

Well, I think I've spoken out enough about my displeasure with most Hyundai dealerships I've encountered (6 total between my wife's sonata in 04 and my genesis) and all but 1 have been mediocre at best, compared to similar brands (Toyota, Honda for example.)

I went to look at the Azera when it came out... the Hyundai dealer does one of those ploys where they put a car at the end of each aisle to prevent driving through. I mistakenly pulled down the aisle and one of the leech salesmen blocked me in with a golf cart... he said, half-jokingly "I can't let you go without test driving" and tried holding me for several minutes.... I finally told him "you can move, or I'll move you - try me" his manager came out and I reiterated... he moved the golf cart. I reported the incident to Hyundai - they said "Unfortunately, dealers are independent of Hyundai" yada yada. My service experiences with all but one other Hyundai dealer has been similarly disappointing. They have a terrible dealer network, on the whole.

With that said, I'd love to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, but personally, I'd like more information. For all we know, the OP is 16yrs old, went with a group of friends just to eyeball the car and the dealer felt it was disruptive (I've seen it happen.) No disrespect intended, OP - just can't understand why a dealer would throw someone out of a car -- usually they're trying to lock you into it until you submit.

I'm 30 y.o., came in alone. I'm white and I dress ok too. I was polite with a salesman too. There was nothing about me or my appearance that would possibly cause such treatment.

Hyundai needs to get a handle on their dealerships and the whole dealership experience if they truly want to move into the Luxury arena. I passed on buying a Genesis because of the treatment I received. One of the final straws for me was when the dealer told me I did not need to drive the actual Genesis I had picked out because I had already driven one "just like it" and that if I did insist on test driving the one I was going to purchase that the sale would have to wait until the next day because it was getting too late.

Bought mine from Capital Hyundai in Kyle, Texas. This is the second car I have bought from them and, in general, I am satisfied with both buying experiences. I also like their service and I have taken my previous (Sonata, Azera) Hyundais there.

The one thing that frosted me on both buys was that they registered my car in the wrong county. Even when both the dealer and my home are in Hays county, my license sticker said Travis county. I complained the first time and, this time, I specifically told the finance guy that they had screwed up the first time and was assured that they would do it right this time.

Travis county has an emission inspection requirement ($$$), while my own county does not. In addition, the road and bridge funds would have gone to the wrong county. I stopped by the tax office this morning and had it corrected.

I bought my Genisus sedan at Hallmark Hyundai a couple of weeks ago. I was in the dealership three times during a two week period and test drove a car twice. The salesman was pleasant and knowlageable and friendly. I have no complaints who Hallmark Hyundai.
