Battery dead, How to charge the battery?

Do I really need to remove the battery before I can charge it? This seems crazy. The manual is not very clear.

I want to charge the battery from the + and - connector under the front hood. But the manual says:

NEVER attempt to recharge
the battery when the vehicle’s
battery cables are connected
to the battery.

What am I missing? I guess I need to disconnect the battery to be able to charge it. ?

I use the + battery terminal(in fuse box) and negative chassis ground post(near fender under cap) located under the hood to charge my battery. That is a proper way to charge car batteries or jump start a dead battery in any car. You should never hook up the jumper cables to both the battery terminals. One should be on the battery positive terminal and the other on a chassis ground. The Genesis battery terminals under hood is perfectly setup to correctly charge or jump the battery.

I believe the owners manual was referring to charging the battery directly from inside in the trunk, not the under hood terminals.

Here is how I charge my battery monthly. Positive goes to the battery and the negative goes to the chassis ground on the frame.

Is it the original battery? If so, it was about it's time... ~ 4yrs is when they usually start biting the dust.

Could be worse, a friend of mine had a lease car & it's battery spontaneously crapped out within 3 months of bringing it home!
