  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 genesis sedan with 4200 miles. I have has to call the help line 3 times with battery failure. Each time the auto rescue vehicle came and jumped my battery and it started. Is anyone else having battery problems?

On some previous year models, a few people posted about a similar experience that turned out to be because the electrical accessory system was not completely shut off, usually due to a sensor tab under the hood that fell out, and was not making contact when the hood was closed (or something like that). There might also be sensor in the door jamb, etc. that is stuck and not working. Or maybe there is short in the system.

You might search the forum to see if you can find those threads, and see if your 2015 has a similar sensor tab under the hood or elsewhere that is not shutting off the electrical system.

If you can't find it, I would take it to the dealer and let them charge the system completely, and then leave it sitting for several days or a week so they can verify that there is a problem. Hyundai is notorious for not fixing things if they cannot reproduce the problem themselves. Might be tricky getting a loaner, but I would take whatever car they give me (Sonata, etc) if they would agree to do it.

I posted above about the new car battery failure. I asked the service mgr what I could do to the battery when I anticipated a 2 month garage sit. He said there was a switch in the fuse box be the drivers knees that when switched off will disconnect everything in the car and that will solve my problem. NOT! When I returned it was completely dead. A few weeks later the battery was dead again despite being driven each day and the A/C and radio turned off. Today I washed the car and I opened all the doors to clean the threshold and dry the doors. Total time the doors were opened was 15 minutes. When I went to put the car in the garage it was dead. Again I called the 24 hour road service and the gentleman that started the car tolbe me that out of , on average, 100 battery calls per week, 50 were from genesis and kia owners. Such a good car, but worthless if one cannot depend on it to start.

Would be interesting to know if other auto brands utilizing agm batteries - esp. large batt.'s - are having similar problems.

The shop manual - mine at least - says the car should be able to sit for a month and still start ok.

Longer than that, and you need a trickle charger.

👆👍➕1⃣ I remember that now... It was a odd situation that affected a bunch of folks. Could be something like this not yet found. Somehow, they need to log the battery draw. And trace where it is originating. Something odd like this could cause discharge and battery failure because of multiple complete drains associated with such a cause..

I think those of us having problems need to let the corporate office know about it. If they hear it enough then maybe they will look into it the way they did with the recall of the tires. I let them know of my battery problem and they called the dealership on my behalf. The dealership would not do anything about it since when they charged it it kept a charge, even though roadside had to be called twice in 5 days. I finally got a new battery and for the last few weeks I have had no problems. The service dept. at the dealership was not happy at all about having to give me a new battery. They made sure I knew it was a "goodwill" battery.

I have 3 cars with agm batteries including the Genesis. Never had a problem with any agm batteries. I usually replace them after 4 years.

It's always been my policy to replace batteries after 4 years also. And, I was hoping to keep that monster battery in my 2015 even longer.

There doesn't appear to be any overall, conclusive reason for the current battery problems, as far as I can see.

How does one email the corporate office. Thanks in advance for your info.

I think my battery issue has been resolved. Yesterday, I went to start my car and it just started clicking. I had it towed to the dealership and they determined that the battery was defective. They replaced the battery and now it once again works. Hopefully, for four or five years.
