  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

BC coilovers

On a separate note, installs like this and the (warranted) rants because of them hurt the reputation of the manufacturer and type of part.

It's not a bad part or the owner's fault, just an unfortunate stain left because many will see the first pages and not see the real reason behind the complaints and eventual resolution.

I believe that many of the posts against this type of coilover are due to this (and some snobbery).

Everyone has a different budget, style, and use for their car. For some, a top-end set of KWs or Ohlins for several thousand dollars will fit the bill. For others, a low-mid level set of Megans or BCs that will only see street use and/or an occasional auto-cross for a grand will work perfect for years.

If you want someone who will listen to your needs/wants and help you decide on a product (or not*), I will be happy to help. Please give me a call.

* sometime I will recommend NOT purchasing a product. Check my feedback. We don't sell people something just to sell something.

I may not be the best about forum communication (I kinda suck at it), but you will always get honest service and I will do my best to do so as quickly as possible. I'm old school. Call me.

All, I have an update. Last Monday (last week) the rep I purchased from came out and inspected per BC's request. He verified that we had maxed out the bottom setting to where there was only 25mm of thread left in the perch. This is the minimum that must be inserted per BC. When we initially got it, it had to have been in there 75mm. Even with that max and installed properly, we had to go to the spring next to get to a reasonable height. The rep took measurements and pictures and wrote it up and sent it to BC. We just got a response from BC yesterday.

BC apologized for the inconvenience. When they designed this setup, they said they did it with the V6, not an R-spec V8 (can't be that much heavier). BC said they are going to work ASAP on a new setup that will come with 12kg front and 10kg rear springs, as well as re-valved coilovers for the stiffer springs. I don't have any part numbers or anything yet, but the 6/8kg setup is definitely not strong enough to support my car. The fact that they are doubling the front spring rate has to say something. JT, the install was done properly, my buddy has done many, many cars with BC coilovers (including his current NSX) and BC accepted the report with pictures submitted to them verifying all the settings.

I think when this is all said and done this could be a great setup for this car, and maybe some of you on the current BC's will have the ability to swap out for the newer setup. I promise to keep everyone here updated on what goes on with my car and part numbers once we get them from BC.

Well this is good news. Glad to hear them saying they got it wrong and are going to resolve the issue. Wonder if Megan Racing will do the same?

Hi I am looking to buy coilovers.

I have the 2012 5.0, thank goodness I looked at this post before ordering.
Now I have to look for other options.

Looking on Megan or BCR website, they list it as 6.0kg spring rates from front and 8.0kg for the rears.

Any other options?

Bilstein?

Just hold off a bit unless you want the Bilstein's. BC has said they are going to do a 12/10 setup for the V8. I have the 2012 as well, so I promise to update this thread as soon as I have the new ones in my hot little hands.

i have the 10k front and i love them. 10 or 12 might be a little stiff for he average person though.

The bilsteins sold in Korea are not legit manufactured coilovers from Bilstein. Do a search on here there is a detailed response a user got from a US Bilstein rep.

Man...it's been forever since I've been on this forum. I apologize for my absence. Things have gotte crazy for me personally and with the business.

Just to clarify as stated earlier in this thread. BC Racing is a manufacturer. They make their own coilovers, but also build and private labels such as Megan Racing. The components used to manufacturer these coilovers are different! So do not compare the two as equal, although they come from the same factory. Any corrections to the BC setup would be corrected on any of their private label products. The other statements are also correct. K2 and Dsport are not the same as BC and are their own brands and manufacturers.

That said, my sedan is the original prototype for the coilover setup being sold. I am pretty sure I have 10k springs up front and 8k in back, but I'll have to look back under and read the numbers to be sure. We built our dually for SEMA 2013, and I haven't been involved with much on "Genny" since then. Last I discussed with them, the fronts were perfect. The rears had a clearance issue, but they were making another of my kit and rented a Genesis to complete the prototype on.

BC also typically recommends preloading them. What's that?... Undo the bottom perch of the spring completely where the spring hangs loose. Then hand tighten until you feel the spring's tension. When your hand can't lightly tighten it anymore, bring the keeper back up to where it touches the perch. Then use the key and tighten the perch, leaving the keeper in it's spot. When there's a 1/4" gap between the two, you're good to go. Bring the keeper back up and lock it in that position. Hope that helps here. Also, DEFINITELY take it to someone that knows about how to setup coilovers. To lower the car, the entire top assembly screws into the bottom mount. You should never have to touch the springs once pre-loaded. My car sat about 0.5" above the tire when I was done. The rear required a spacer. Without it, it slammed the heck out of the car. Also remember to allow about 0.5"-1" for settling. I think mine settled 1" after it was done.

And this is also correct. Some companies overseas mimic companies here and in other countries. International copyrights and whatnot. Such sneaky people...

How are the qualities on the BC Racing?
I'm hearing mixed opinions....

Are they a Chinese company? Looks like the shocks are produced in Taiwan.

I did some research.

It looks like you can order the BC Racing coilovers with custom spring rates at no extra charge.

The Swift springs whatever they are. Seems like its a better quality spring and BC Racing offers it for the front for the Genesis sedan.
(costs about $150 extra for the fronts)

BC is 100% made in Taiwan, not China. Taiwan's quality control is better than China. In fact a lot of your aftermarket OE parts are from there like Eagle Eyes and TYC.

The quality in my opinion is great. Our drift car has run 2 hard seasons without issues. You can upgrade the spring rates at no cost. For example if it comes with 8k springs, you can up it to 10k or 12k. Additional springs cost, say you want to have a different "set". The Swift Springs upgrade has a cost. But merely changing the springs rates does not. We are a direct seller for them, but I'm here to help answer any questions.

So what is the ideal spring rates for BC Racing on the 5.0 v8?

12k front and 10k rear or
10k front and 8k rear.

Ive been asking around.
I know 2 guys running megans on the coupe
Both 2.0 and the 3.8.
They r running both 6k front and 8k rear.

They told me theyve seen few people run bcs and
Said megans and bcs are not bad for what it is. But they haven't seen it
On the sedan v6 or the v8.

Looks like for the genesis sedan owners
Our options are these or
Ark springs and shock setup.
That or megan but looking at 6k and 8k setup doesnt work.

Anyone else running these?

I just want .5-1 inch drop max with slightly firmer ride.

Im running 19x8.5 offset +35 and 19x10 +38
245/45/19 and 275/40/19
