  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The thread title says it all.. Be back soon...

edit:

Okay! I just so happened to be out picking up some Carvel for my Wife, Mother and I - and glanced through the windows at the Napleton's Hyundai dealership on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, Florida. As luck would have it, there was a Hyundai Genesis sitting inside.. A white one. It was very late - so I didn't have a chance to really look over the vehicle as intensively as I'd have liked - but I did get a decent look at it.

I didn't see the front of the car - so no input on the grille. Most of my available time was spent inside. The first thing I noticed as I sat in the car - it smells 100% identical to a Lexus. It's a unique smell. The leather on the V6 is Outstanding! I don't remember what the Azera's leather felt like to compare - and I only sat in one when it first came out a few years ago - but I don't remember the Azera having leather like this. This is some of the nicest leather available on the market. Far better than BMWs standard leather. Very, very close to Lexus' best leather. Probably about the same as Mercedes' standard leather. Better than Cadillac's standard leather. A touch better than Lincoln's standard leather. Toyota's leather doesn't come close... I really wonder what Hyundai's premium leather is going to be like...

This Hyundai Genesis is really big. It's impossible to sit in the car and not notice how big it is. Plenty of legroom everywhere. Plenty of shoulder room everywhere. The building materials and quality are excellent - maybe a touch below Lexus in a couple of areas - on par everywhere else. I noticed something odd about the seats....... They're just very different... Very comfortable.. Sort of like the cushion is very thick. I can't figure it out just yet - but the seats are very comfortable - in a "new" way. There's just something about sitting down in the Genesis seats that I find unique. I'll have to elaborate more at another time.

I don't want to say the Genesis is an amazing car "for the money". It's an amazing car - period. Then, when you consider the cost and warranty, it gets that much better. This is a really, really, really nice car and I have absolutely no problem believing it's going to sell like crazy...

Keep in mind that I haven't taken a test drive yet. I will - soon...

One thing that has me absolutely shocked is - neither Palm Beach Napleton's Hyundai dealership had ANYTHING indicating that the Genesis was available! Not a single sign on the inside OR the outside! How is ANYBODY supposed to know that there's a new game in town?! I suppose the big marketing campaign hasn't begun yet...

I'm also sad to say that the people "in the know" at these dealerships have no freaking clue. They don't even know how to spell "Genesis". No, I'm not kidding...

The $5000.00 Market Adjustment exists at both Napleton's Hyundai dealerships. I do hope they realize that only the first wave of customers is going to go along with it...

Wooo Hooo!

Looking forward to hearing your impressions. :)

Oh well. They didn't have any in.. Just sold one.. I'll have to wait for their call and update this thread another time..

Updated my original post. Bump!

Good impressions. I agree on most all accounts, especially the leather. It feels about as nice as my old GS430, and much better than my 2006 Honda Pilot, which feels like vinyl by comparison.

As I've said before, if the Genesis fails it will have nothing to do with the actual car, which is great. It will have to do with the bonehead dealers and poor marketing. I can't talk my better half into a Genesis Coupe, but maybe a Genesis 4.6 sedan next year? ;) I love my V6 Genesis, but it would be a dream to have one of each. :D

Are you going back to test drive the car this week? Would be interested in your driving impressions.
Did you ask how many they may have sold or have in stock?
What was your impression of the white color, is it a pearl white or white-white?

So, the white cars DID manage to make it huh?. Also, one question, does the 'Market Adjustment' thing shows in the sticker? since I am not sure if they actually print it on the sticker, or if they leave the sticker as is and let you know that there is this nonsense called 'Market Adjustment'. The dealer in NJ I went to had 4 Genesis, but none of them had it printed on their window sticker. Just wonderring.

I am still saving my final judgement of the car until I see and test out the seats and interiors, but I had above 2 questions. I hope my dad loves the car when I buy him one next year.

GrandPrix,

It's none of my business, but I'm curious. Why is a Korean car something you will buy for your Dad, but not yourself? It seems a little strange, but I'm sure you have a reason. :)

It's simple really, I don't like Korean cars and am strictly a fan American car only, but my father doesn't really care as long as it goes from point a to point b. He saw the car at the NY auto show, and he seemed to like the Genesis more than any other car from the show, so I have decided maybe I will buy the car for him since he needs one soon, cause he still drives a 9 year car, though it still runs like new, but you never know. He does not however, like American cars in general, and more into the Germans, but he can't afford any of them, that's why. Genesis is cheaper, that's another reason too. Like me, he likes the big cars so.

The dealer makes up a narrow vertical sticker the same style the factory window sheet and sticks it on to the right. It lists the "value added" add-ons that you get for the adjustment, like pin-striping, rust-proofing, or whatever.

Well, even though the gas price is seeming to going down a bit, but V6 most likely, due to the gas price. Heck, even my 3.8 Grand Prix is proving to be a gas guzzler as is. I can notice the difference compared to the 3.4 Grand Am which is only 0.4 difference, but I can tell the difference right off the bat, so....

It's not always easy for me to find time - but I'll get in there eventually for a test drive. I like being ignored when I go to dealerships - so I usually wear sweat shorts and a plain white undershirt. :p It works really well. Only when a dealership sees me get out of my vehicle do they pursue me.

Yes, white did make it. I'm not sure if it was pearl white or not. I'm going to say it was NOT. Pearl would have caught my eye (it's my favorite color). It appeared that the $5000 market adjustment was on the original window sticker (did not look custom fabricated).

I think your father is going to love this car. ;)
