I proactively replace my Battery every 4 years on my Car. Usually I just buy a Die Hard, but apparently no Die Hard is made for my 2014 RSpec ..... What Kind and Brand of Battery should I get?

I believe it takes an H8 Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery (but double check the size to make sure). You can find them at Advance Auto Parts or AutoZone. I would check both of their websites and purchase online for pickup at the store to get the best price, because you can sometimes get some hefty discounts that way.

There are not that many different battery manufacturers in North America, and I believe both are made by Johnson Controls (which also sells the Interstate Battery brand). The only difference appears to be the color and molding of the plastic pieces on top of the battery.

Use the proper AGM battery. Don't go cheap.

I got AGM battery from AutoZone. Car starts in a second at -6 F°.

I have never seen a cheap AGM battery in the US. I suspect most all of them are made by Johnson Controls. Obviously, one must get the correct size.

Group 49 H-8 is the AGM battery you require and they are available in all sorts of places from Auto Zone to Sam's Club, Walmart, Costco etc. and all have similar cranking amps (850-900).
Prices I found are Sam"s $169, Walmart $139, Auto Zone $193, DieHard $172, Interstate $290.

Contrary to popular belief most lead acid and AGM batteries sold in the Southern US states are manufactured mostly in Mexico with Johnson Controls making about 65% of them.
Johnson Controls makes batteries for Costco, Sam's, Walmart, Auto Zone Interstate and others.

Quite a price spread. Do you know if there is much difference in specs and construction? You don't always get what you pay for.

I've been studying mainly lead acid batteries since 2002 when I switched from buying 6v Trojan batteries to Sam's Club for my boat and golf cart. What I found in lead acid is mainly weight=run time and the specs where nearly irrelevant. The 6-6v Sam's Club (Johnson Controls) batteries in my boat that ran a 2000w inverter on a smart charger lasted 11 years before they dropped below 90% and had to be replaced.
Sine then all of my batteries for golf cart, truck, car etc. have come from Sam's mainly for cost and convenience.
My guess for the price spread is more associated with advertising, brand recognition and profit margins than actual specs and value.

No Sir! -- This is the problem that I am having... If I would have found one at Costco, I would not have even had to make this post. Try it yourself - Search for a 2014 RSpec 5.0 -- this is what you get.

I have a 2013 3.8 Tech which can't be much different than the 2014 5.0.
Here's what's listed for mine:

Well, Obviously it is..... And seeing how yours is a 6 Cylinder, I'd say it's pretty different.

I also have a 2011 4.6 V8 which I had no problem finding a battery for.

For some reason, Costco does not carry an H8 AGM battery. It's not a problem with just your 2014 R-Spec

It turns out that they switched to a H9 size starting in 2014 for the 5.0 (same as the 2015 and I assume Genesis G80).

Advance Auto Parts carries the battery:

It looks like you can get 25% discount if you purchase online for pickup at Advance Auto Parts. However, you may not find one in stock at a store near you (check several stores nearby), but they will notify you when they get one in at the store you selected if you are willing to wait.

Price is $192, and with 25% off it would be $144 plus tax and refundable core exchange charge.

On most of those batteries, there are two gas exhaust holes, one on each side, to be connected to the vent tube in the trunk (see current battery). Even though AGM batteries are completely sealed, it is for an emergency release of gas. Make sure you plug up the hole not being used with a plug molded into the red plastic that covers the positive terminal on the new battery (break it off).

If you want to purchase some other auto parts (or maintenance items) at Advance Auto Parts, hold off until this transaction is completed, because Advance Auto Parts will probably send you some more discount coupons after you purchase the battery.

Thanks... That'll work!

The battery compartment has provisions for both H8 and the longer H9, at least for my '09 V6. I figure a bit more weight in the rear isn't such a bad idea for a RWD car, and the added capacity doesn't hurt, so I bought a H9-AGM (Autozone Duralast Platinum IIRC). That was probably about 8 years ago and it is still going strong. Being that it sits in the relatively cool trunk, and not subjected to the extreme heat and vibration in the engine compartment, a good quality battery lasts a long time. Changing it out every 4yrs might be a bit excessive.

I highly recommend getting a battery load tester instead. You can buy one at lots of places for $20 or so. Test it every 6months or so, and change it out if it starts to show signs of weakness.

Unfortunately mine had a starting problem 2 years ago so I immediately when to Autozone and spent $160 on their replacement battery.
I frequent races at Road Atlanta and the battery company Braille is ALWAYS there. I wanted to invest in one on my own time not when mine decided to die. LOL The racers user Braille as the go to battery to start all of their cars with no issues.

I hope you didn't get a Braille racing battery. Those are special lightweight designs that are not as robust as regular batteries.

In looking at the Braille regular size AGM battery, and comparing the Group 49 with a H8 AutoCraft battery from Advance Auto Parts, they look identical to me (notice the carrying handle and other parts).

No I got the overpriced Autozone one. Yeah the sales man and my buddy who is a professional driver mentioned they are lightweight and start in an instant. He said they would be ok for non-racing use. I saw a car audio build for a 1st Gen Genny sedan utilizing the braille battery. So far he has had no issues.

The one at Advance Auto Parts is the same as the Braille. (I modified my post above after you quoted it).

A lightweight racing battery will work, but it simply cannot last as long as a regular size battery, especially in cold weather.

Mark_888,

I understand. :) . Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if STINGER, XS or Odyssey would be bad. I guess I am good until this battery gives me problems. I wont beat this topic anymore. Thanks!

I went with a NAPA AGM battery and it only lasted 1 year (disappointed). After jumping off the car (power pack), I decided to go with the Dealership option recently I believe it may be Interstate brand? Installed it was around $390. Dealership said batteries are hit/miss. Some last a year...some last 8 years.
