  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bicycle Rack Possibilities for G70?

I "built" a 2020 G70 on the Canadian website, which has interior accessories, exterior accessories and "frame accessories". The hitch is under frame accessories.

That's amazing that Genesis would charge that much to convert the G70 to be able to have a receiver bike rack option. About $990+ US.

I'm also surprised that Curt hitches have not been able to come up with a receiver hitch for the G70 as they've had one for the G80 for a couple of years now. I'm itching to go with the Curt, but up to now, I was worried about having to cut a bit of the lower bumper in the center for the receiver.

Pulled the plug and having the Curt installed on my G80 next Monday. Will report the results after it's done.

I'd avoid trunk-mounted.. it'll scratch the shit out of your trunk, unless you add some PPF or something like that on your trunk.

My 2020 G70 had the option for the hitch, and it's installed. You need to turn off the reverse parking sensors with it on though.

You have turn off the reverse parking sensors with a bike rack on? or you have to turn it off all together? Do you have any pics of it?

Just with the bike rack on. Which .. kinda makes sense, when you have something blocking all those sensors. Messes with the camera too, for obvious reasons. Class 1 hitch, no electrical connections. Apparently installing it required the vehicle to be lifted up and stuff dropped.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
So random,

Would you please advise whether you purchased your car in Canada, Australia or some other part of the globe? What do you use the hitch for? Are you happy with its construction?

Thanks in advance!

Canada (Vancouver), I use it for a bike rack, at the time there was a $1250 credit for accessories.

It's not a common option I'm guessing, since the one they had in stock was damaged in shipping and no one noticed, apparently.

There's also apparently a dealer option bike rack:

Looks like we will have to buy the hitch from Genesis Canada:

"Dear James:
Thank you for contacting Genesis Motor America.
We have received an answer to your inquiry regard to the availability of a bike rack for your 2019 GENESIS G70 (IK) 3.3T. We would not be able to provide rack availability since this is not manufactured by Genesis. Your patience was greatly appreciated.
Thank you for contacting Genesis Motor America."

IMHO, the hitch solution sight unseen is/will be the best alternative. Such mounts are easy to install and remove, do not interfere with trunk operation, and are relatively inconspicuous. Securing a bike to the rack is easy.

Beefer, I have owned/used trunk mounts and they are a pain. They rub the paint, make the trunk useless while mounted, and have straps "blowin' in the wind". An inelegant solution.

I've never owned a roof mount so I can only speculate. That said, the Seasucker Talon roof mount looks like a lot more work that simply hanging a bike on a trailer hitch rack. Plus, I would probably forget about the bike and try to drive the car into my garage, with results similar to Titanic meeting the iceberg.

Any updates on a hitch receiver for the G70 by chance?

I have not pursued this any further. I was hoping to hear from Truck Norris on whether he was able to order an OEM hitch from his Canadian dealership, and how he likes it. In the meantime, perhaps a letter writing campaign directed to the US parts manager is appropriate.

As a late follow up, I confirmed it is available (the receiver) from the local Genesis dealer. Price was $670 installed taxes extra CAD for the receiver and $610 taxes extra for the bike-rack they offer.

I didn't follow through, at least yet, as the receiver to the best of my knowledge is not rated like the Australian version and I don't like all the liability of potentially hooking something up landing on me if there are issues. The load capacity on the inside of the door is also 900lbs + total or something extremely low so I thought so I may leave this car be. lol

On an interesting note a Volvo S90 equipped properly can tow something around 4400lbs. lol Apples/oranges, but interesting.

Truck, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the Canadian receiver not being rated like the Australian version. I assume Genesis Canada would not sell a receiver which did not meet applicable Canadian regulations. Are you saying the Canadian version is not rated for the same tongue weight as the Australian version? Is there any reason to believe the Australian and Canadian hitches are different from one another?

Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt as I'm somewhat speculating here. Basically unless I can find out the ratings on the receiver I'm going to assume on the safe side.

Where I'm coming from is you can see the Australian version is load rated for towing and tongue weight. I couldn't at the time (have not checked recently) find these figures for the Canadian version. I do believe they are the identical parts to confirm that as well, why wouldn't they be. My GEM also stated its only good for bike racks as well or something along those lines.

My assumption is that the Canadian governing body has not certified the receiver for tow/tongue loads, meaning theoretically I hook a small aluminum trailer up to it, even within the correct ratings of the Australian version, and there is an issue it is all on me. That and the cost are why I haven't followed through yet. May do so in the spring, unsure.

Thanks for the clarification Truck. If the Covid vaccine is proven safe and effective, and Canada opens the border, I just might take a road trip North next Spring. In any event, keep us informed if you go ahead with the trailer hitch.

See you in 2022 lol. In all seriousness I will post any updates. Still may pull the trigger on it and sounds like I would be the only one here.... $5 and I'll send pictures with a review, $50 I'll buy the part and ship it haha costs in addition.

Thinking further if we have the part here and it is not in the US it must be a regulatory issue or testing, etc.

With regards to the accessory frame for the G70..
I had the hitch installed on my 2020 G70 on May 29th and had it removed on November 16th. I thought it was unsafe as the hitch, even without my bike rack, frequently bottomed out. I felt it might have been particularly dangerous when bottoming out with the vehicle in reverse. Genesis Canada were unable to resolve the problem; so I had it removed.
I am now back to searching for an alternative.

Do you have a picture of how low the receiver Was? Below is the receiver on my G80 and I've never that the problem you described. This is a Curt hitch.

No, I do not have a picture. The hitch is gone; but it was not the same as yours. I think the clearance without the bike rack was just under 5 inches.
