If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai perhaps should consider a big Genesis type of vehicle. No, no, no not an Equus. A big family sedan (6 passenger with a huge trunk) that would fill the vacuum created by the demise of the Lincoln Town Car.

You have your rentals, your old farts, your limos, your police cars ... and the list goes on. A tiered approach to this market vacuum could make a ton of money. Rear wheel drive, cushy-quiet ride, and all of that.

Hyundai is positioned to exactly and expertly fill this market vacuum,

The standard Equus has as much or more room than the old Town Car. It has better build quality, a more efficient powertrain, handles, acclerates and stops better. Why would anyone want to develop a car that has its roots in 1990?

Personally, I'd like to see Hyundai stay out of this market. Way out of it! - Leave it to Chrysler, Ford, Cadillac --- No sense in disgracing yourself.

Our local dealer said Hyundai is spinning of Genesis much like Toyota did Lexus, Honda did Acura, etc. The "new" Genesis will be branded in 3, 5, and 7 series of vehicles (catch any similarity to another manufacturer?) with the Equos being the 7.

Anyone else hear of this?

I'm not sure what you are saying here. Are you saying that they are going to rename the Equus a Genesis 7 ? If so, I very much doubt it.

We're thinking that Hyundai will launch a "Genesis" brand for the second generation of the Genesis and Equus. The Equus may be renamed "Prestige" or simply VS.. The Genesis may be renamed GS (Genesis Sedan).. The names are really up in the air but the brand will probably be launched in the not-too-distant future.

As for wanting a Hyundai "Town Car" - I think the Azera probably fits that bill best right now - but it IS a little small. Maybe a larger version of the Azera would be good.. Kia may have something soon as well..

Breaking: Hyundai Equus Stretch Edition Unveiled in Korea With New 5.0-liter V8

Hyundai has just unveiled a “Stretch Edition” of its flagship Equus luxury sedan in Korea, measuring a massive 215-inches in length –a foot longer than the standard sedan model. For the record, that’s just over half a foot longer than the extended-wheelbase BMW 750Li. It’s also just 15-inches smaller than the simply massive Rolls-Royce Phantom.

How is meeting a market need disgraceful?

OK, ignore the connection to the Genesis for the purpose of a reasonable discussion. Hyundai is eminently capable of engineering and building decent sized, rear-wheel drive sedans that are affordable. Ford had a long run with the Crown Victoria, the Grand Marquis, and the Lincoln Town Car. Hyundai could recapture that tiered market and that market is still there, even though it is not as big as it once was. It could be revitalized and grown buy an innovative company like Hyundai.

Hyundai is expertly positioned to supply the big-sedan, rear-wheel drive, V-8, market. Ford is typical of many companies that allow a stellar product to languish by ignoring it and then cancel it because consumers move on. Ford screwed up with this market and Hyundai can step into it as they have the expertise and the pricing that it would take to win big here.

Hardly discgraceful.

Pontiac tried that with the G8. Almost the size of the Genesis, V6 or V8 and the last ones had to be given away at mid $20k prices. Look where Pontiac is now. If you are looking for a cheap rear drive big sedan wait for the Caprice PPV and see if they will sell you one. There was no market for it.

Have a little problem with this argument. Pontiac was dead, everyone knew it, I bought the Genesis over the G8 GXP for this reason... (resale would be even worse than usual for a GM product)... I know a lot of people that would have bought the G8 if it was sold as a chevy..

As for the original post.... 6 passenger cars are a thing of the past... you just are not going to see bench 3 position seating in the front any more..
(Avalon I think still offers it but I have never seen on configured this way)...

In the USA if you want 6 passenger seating you get a vehicle with 3 rows of seats.... Not saying it is right.. but it is the market...

The reason ford and chevy left those markets.... it has disappeared...

I think because as others have said. "there is no market". A lot of the drivers of these "beasts" have already gone to the home, sans drivers license.

Thanks to all who responded; I guess.

The thing is that a design genre that was extremely popular could die off due to culture shifts, or due to benign neglect of the major suppliers. No significant new features for years and years? That posture is listed up there with the 10 top ways to kill a product.

Big sedans have a waiting market. Maybe only a fraction of what it was, but still very significant for an up and coming company like Hyundai.

That's my thought and I am sticking to it!:)

Nice on the extended Equus... Now to get that 5.0 and 8 speed tranny on the 12' Genesis

The demographic which supported that market is, quite literally, dying off. And those which are not, like my father-in-law (who fought in the Korean War), are learning to appreciate the newer cars.

I guess you have not checked the price in Autotrader.com for the 2008 or 2009 G8, including the G8 GXP. The resale value is HIGH. Prices are much higher than I thought they would be. I checked two in person, plus a few in Autotrader.com and about the only thing that turned me off was none of the once I looked at had the Navi (GPS Screen). They may have had the On Star Voice only Navi, but any car I buy from now on must have the Navi Screen.

I thought I could pick one up "cheap" seeing as how they don't make them anymore. WRONG. Cheaper for me to buy a previous owned Jaguar XJ8 or XJR than a G8. The Jags (XJ8 and XJR) really lose their value fast and can be had for a song compared to their original price.

If you hear it from a dealer (who normally knows even less than we do), or hear it on the internet, then it must be true.

:D
