  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK saw them. It doesn't look bad at all and don't mind the lines. Hows the fit and finish of the product Rich? You think it will hold up for the life of the car?

Honestly I was very disappointed when I received the package. They were flimsy. I was having the stripping done at the same time so I had the body guy put them on and they look as natural now as if they were factory installed. Perfect fit. I can't say how they will hold up long run,but an earlier post talks to taking of the chrome covers. I think they will last fine. I did try to add a photo with the paperclip, but it didn't take. Oh well.

Rich, are the covers opaque or translucent? I have ordered a set an am waiting for them to arrive, but I'm a little concerned that - if they are not opaque - the damage to the pillar finish underneath might show through. The areas where the surface was marred are still black, but shiny black with distinct edges, and are very visible. What do you think?

I think my critical thinking skills are degrading with age (like everything else). If the covers were translucent then the adhesive would also show thru, so it's unlikely that they are translucent, allowing the surface of the underlying pillar to be visible. Duh.

It's a good thing I ordered these.

I foolishly thought I could remove the chrome covers without a problem.

Turns out not to be so easy: the black pillar surface is a lot more fragile than I would have imagined. I very carefully warmed the chrome with a hair dryer and worked a piece of nylon string (an extra guitar G string I had lying around) beneath it, hoping to cut thru the adhesive like on the trunk emblem. However, the band of 3M adhesive is quite wide and sticky and it became obvious that I would not be able to get the chrome off without damaging it. I peeled the top edge of the chrome away, put on my trusty visegrips, and pulled the chrome off with little trouble. However, the remaining band of adhesive residue was very difficult to get off. I finally got the knack too late - both of the pillars on the passenger side are marred: the matte black coating on the pillars is a fragile film of paint or plastic that peels if you're not VERY careful.

In any case, the new covers will hide the damage, but it's annoying nonetheless. I was ambivalent about the chrome when I put it on (my wife thought it was great, but I was less certain) - I should have followed my instincts.

Success! :D My new pillar covers from Kapastore finally arrived. I put them on and I think they look good - the damage I did removing the chrome covers is completely hidden (well, almost - if you look closely at the rear passenger side cover you can detect a little distortion in the reflection caused by the rough surface underneath caused during removal of the chrome). I posted a couple of pics in an album (click the icon beneath my name above).

Looks good dg_moore!

I can't help but notice you have the Premium touch screen Nav system...how do you like it? As far as I know, no member here has really commented on this particular Nav system yet (most/all of the attention gets directed toward the Tech Package Nav system). I'd love to see some screen shots showing the bluetooth/ipod implementation/etc. if you have the time. Sorry for getting OT. :)

LOL, Flyboy, you tickle me every time. :D

I think they look great, though they tend to remind me of the trim on Lincolns and the like with the padded vinyl tops. I parked beside a black/black Lex ES350 today. Liked mine better. Especially the sticker. What about the install on the panels?

:o I hardly ever travel anyplace where I don't know my way, so I haven't used the Nav yet. Maybe one of these days.... OTOH, I like the audio system - I have a 16GB thumb drive with every CD I own on it, and the sound is terrific (but actually I spend far more time listening to NPR than to music, and most days I'm only in the car for a total of about 25 minutes - ~12 minutes to and from work. I have listened to XM for a few minutes, but it doesn't interest me much. I don't plan to subscribe when the free trial is over).

Me too. Might be OK if they didn't have the white outline and Genesis name printed in them. The lines are a little like the pinstriping some dealers like to put on half the cars on their lot...just need the little stars in the corner to complete them.
