  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Blank Instrument Cluster

The blank screen just happened on our new 2024. We had been gone for a week on a camping trip and first time starting car it remained blank for approx 60 seconds. A software update did occur while we were gone. I am on the group thinking this is a software issue.

Just bought a low mileage preowned 2024 Performance yesterday. The blank instrument cluster happened to me twice today. Temps were in the 40s today where I live, so that’s tracking with some comments here. Coincidentally, I’m already headed in for service tomorrow so will add this to the list. Leaving the car out overnight in hopes that I can replicate and snag a picture tomorrow morning.

This surely doesn't sound like a software problem. If it is hardware, I wonder if we can narrow down a date of manufacture? My '24P is an early 24 manufactured in June '23. I have not seen it yet, but do park in a garage that stays warmer than the outside temp.

I've had the car for over two years (i.e. have been through two Northeast winters already) and am just now seeing the issue. I also don't recall anyone else complaining of the issues prior to the last couple of months. To me, that points to software. Weird that so many folks would be experiencing the same hardware failure at or about the same time. I guess time will tell, but I'm still betting on a software issue.

Yes, indeed. If this issue is widespread, it could rise to a NHTSA recall matter due to the safety implications.

Yep. Another blank screen this morning. HUD still working so can at least drive car. For all these events taking place now out of the blue has to be software issue. Ours started doing this after a software update.

Okay, so if we suspect software, what kind of code is subject to temperature issues? Maybe jungle code? Not built for cold climates? Even coffee (Java) is often served over ice, so, I am guessing they are not writing the software in Java! ;)

Don't see this as temperature related. I live in North Georgia and the temps here have been in the 70's. No cold temps that could cause this for me. Car is kept in garage. This morning it was 69 in garage and had the blank screen.

Same here. We had an unseasonably warm spell recently and happened a few times on a fairly warm day (upper 60's / lower 70's)

Ok, so how do we get this issue to the attention of Genesis? If they actively monitor this site it would be nice if they acknowledged they are aware of issue and working on solution. This will be a NSTB recall issue as it affects vehicle safety unless they get a handle on it.

FYI for any affected owners, I did send an email to Customercare at Genesis regarding this safety issue. Will advise on the response I get.

You may be giving the NHTSA more credit than they deserve. I have seen recalls for things like backup cameras not working. It never takes cars of the road. They allow the manufacturers a great deal of latitude while they debug the problem and offer a software update. This is not a fire hazard. This is not something that will cause blowouts and cars to flip. Honestly, how many people can't drive a car without a speedometer?

Speed is not the issue. It is all the other safety issues/warnings you cannot see that are the issue. Collision avoidance warnings etc.

Ok, gotcha on the speedometer. But how about without a brake failure light? How about without a tire pressure warning light? This matter is definitely within NHTSA purview.

Quick update here from my dealership. They said the GV70 and the GV80 both have a TSB for this issue. Those are due to an "exposed" cable behind the cluster - and they're being repaired by wrapping a thermo-insulator material around the cable. He said this is why it seems to be climate-related for many. He said the GV60 has the exact same cable, but there's no TSB yet. So, they're going to treat this like the other TSB and they're wrapping it for me.

I'll pick up the car later - and we'll see if this fixes it. But, I'm also seeing so many comments about this being a new issue since the software update. So, we'll see. I just recommend others report this, so it can at least get the TSB (and maybe a recall or additional software update).

Is it possible to get a TSB number (or better yet, a pdf of the TSB)?

I'll ask when I get there later today. I tried to search online and didn't realize TSB's may not be published like a recall? That's unfortunate.

FYI - I did file a complaint on the NHTSA website. Hopefully if enough of us do so, it can trigger a more thorough manufacturer investigation.

Actually, TSBs are indeed published by NHTSA since new regs went into effect in 2020 (over manufacturer objections, of course). You just have to know how to find them since they are labeled as "Manufacturer Communications". I did a quick search under both GV70 and GV80, but could not find a TSB that matches the description of the problem.

So, this is a hardware issue... Hopefully, easier to resolve
