  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Blank Instrument Cluster

I had the issue pop up today on my new 2024 GV60. There have been no updates that I know of, at least none that required any action by me. The issue happened fist thing this morning in my somewhat chilly garage, but did not recur in the afternoon. The issue happened yesterday in the afternoon with temps in the 50's hard to think this is temp related but I guess maybe it's been a LITTLE cooler than when I first bought the car. And, what about those who went through a full winter with no issue until now. Strange. Bringing my car in for some other issues tomorrow and will report back if I learn anything.

This reminds me an issue with the overheating charging port, which usually occurred after several months of ownership.

Though my instrument cluster has never gone dead as reported in the thread, it has been much dimmer than expected a couple of times recently. I've just manually brightened it up and it's been fine.

So, super dumb, obvious question: has anyone with a blank cluster just tried to manually adjust the brightness of the screen?

Yep, first thing I tried. Also, I too have periodically noticed it would sometimes be reset to a dimmer setting, then I would have to readjust.

Dimmer switch has no affect. HOWEVER........My wife came in and said that screen went blank on her again. I went out and did a hard reset of computer by disconnecting battery negative cable for about 10 minutes. Hooked back up and gave computer about 10 minutes to reboot. Started car five times and every time screen came up. In addition, it is showing some stuff on the drivers screen it did not show before. I am now thinking that maybe that last update did not complete and by rebooting computer it either re-applied update or maybe reverted to earlier version. Regardless, a hard reboot seems to have fixed the problem. We'll have to see if it comes back. I am further convinced this was a software issue, not related to temperature or a loose cable etc.

Interesting. This reminds me of when I first got the car, the connected services wasn’t working. Someone suggested a hard reset by disconnecting the battery, and that worked. I’ll have to try it next chance I get.

Actually, TSBs are indeed published by NHTSA since new regs went into effect in 2020 (over manufacturer objections, of course). You just have to know how to find them since they are labeled as "Manufacturer Communications". I did a quick search under both GV70 and GV80, but could not find a TSB that matches the description of the problem.

I’m in that boat right now. In addition to the blank screen after 3 days of ownership, my connected services aren’t working properly. I transferred ownership and registered for connected services, but there’s a pin-protected profile from the previous owner stuck in there that I can’t delete. I have a ticket open for that, but I’ll have to try the hard reset to see if it helps both situations.

Well an update, and not good news. After I did hard re-boot of computer last night I though the blank screen issue was resolved. Wife went out this morning and...you guessed it....blank screen again. I guess I will make an appointment for service department. They will probably keep car for 2-3 days and not be able to "replicate problem" and it will all be a waste of time. I hope Genesis will hurry and get to the bottom of this. I had our Mach E for 3 1/2 years with absolutely no problems and only had GV60 2 weeks and this issue keeps popping up.

They don't need to "replicate" anything, just take a picture and send/show it to them

Unfortunately, that doesn't always help. I did that with another issue I was having and got the "We can't replicate it and car isn't throwing any error codes" generic response from them.

And you left it at that? I would certainly escalate with Genesis and find another dealer

I would have, but problem hasn't reoccurred for a couple months now. I love the car, but some of the hardware/software has been a bit too glitchy.

So, I was contacted by Genesis customer care service in reply to my complaint about the drivers screen going blank. They said I had been assigned a national case number and will be contacted by technical support in 1-2 business days. Will update here upon what they say.

Thanks for the update. I will be contacting them as well and encourage everyone else having this issue to do the same. The goal is to get their central engineers to figure this problem out and generate a proper TSB rather than having the dealers guessing at it or claiming there’s nothing they can do about it.

I have tried that several times (increase and decrease brightness). And even tried taking the cluster out of auto brightness adjust. However, this made no difference.

I have reverted to Pre-starting the Climate Control before driving the car. This seems to work, I have not had a blank instrument cluster when I pre-engage the Climate control.

I have scheduled to take the car in to be looked at. I also have that dreaded rear hatch noise issue.

I was in for Genesis service today for unrelated issues and the person at the service desk said there was a brand new service bulletin for a battery issue that required a manual software update. During my service I received a text saying new software had been installed (never saw that with OTA updates). Anyway, the tech thought the black screen might be related to this issue though that was not specified in the bulletin. I'm very skeptical but will see.

Just want to report that since the dealer-installed update I have not experienced the black cluster issue. Fingers crossed!

Good to know. Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed 🤞

Is there any chance they listed any details about that update in your service report?
