  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Blank Instrument Cluster

Uhhhh...let me guess....GV60?
thank goodness. I guess my GV60--which is apparently going to be stuck at the dealership for a month or so waiting on a fix for the very same instrument panel--is unaffected by that issue.

oh, wait.

Ahah! Finally, the issue has been addressed at the NHTSA level as a violation of FMVSS. Unfortunately, as pointed out, the GV60 is not included. Yet 😉. Just wait.

Here is the NHTSA text that explains the origin of the recall (again, the GV60 is not listed as affected yet). There were 454 complaints lodged about the applicable models. NHTSA will listen to consumer complaints! If you have experienced an instrument panel problem with your GV60, please consider reporting it to NHTSA.

Genesis Recall Campaign 026G
Attachment A: Technical Analysis Leading Up to Decision

On December 16, 2024, NASO received a Speak Up for Safety (“SUFS”) report regarding an investigation concerning a display condition involving the 8-inch instrument cluster on certain Genesis GV70 and GV70 “Electrified” vehicles in other foreign markets. NASO began gathering U.S. market field information for further analysis.

After confirming market data and equipment applicability, on February 6, 2025, NASO expanded the investigation to include additional vehicles for an alleged condition where the 8-Inch Instrument Cluster Display appeared blank upon vehicle startup. According to HMC, the cause of the condition was linked to the screen initialization protocol for memory loading and error storage leading to a delayed or inoperative screen (including telltales and speedometer). Through subsequent investigation and discussion with HMC, the software error was identified to be present at final manufacture and could trigger the condition at random, including prior to sale.

Based on review of condition, root cause and occurrence timing, NASO convened its North American Safety Decision Authority on February 13, 2025, and determined that the subject condition would result in a failure of the requirements and test condition(s) specified in FMVSS No. 101, “Controls and Displays.” requiring a noncompliance recall of all affected Genesis vehicles in the U.S.

As of the date of this filing, HMA has identified 454 unique incidents through reports received on June 24, 2023, through February 3, 2025, alleging the defect condition in the U.S. market. HMA is not aware of any confirmed crashes, injuries or fires related to the noncompliance condition.

Reading through the TSBs for the affected models, it seems that there is a software patch designed to fix the problem. The techs are instructed to perform the software update in various ways. Only if that fails are they instructed to call the Genesis Tech Line.

I always said it was a software issue and not related to cold weather 😊

Yep, you and I both. It will soon be recall for gv60.

update on my GV60 replacement console: they're not sending it to California for programming.

THEY'RE ORDERING ANOTHER CONSOLE ENTIRELY!

since it took nearly two months to get the first replacement, I'm not optimistic that this'll be resolved soon. at least I have a decent loaner.

Did your first replacement fail also?
I'm unclear, but guessing yes.

service manager originally said they'd been on the phone w/genesis all day trying to avoid sending the unit to California for reprogramming...and he explained that the mileage would be wrong if it was driven as it is, so it can't be moved--as someone else noted upthread. when I called today for an update I asked if they'd be sending the part to California, he said 'no.' I asked if that was good news, and he said 'no, we've ordered another console. and since it took the first one awhile to arrive...'

my gut is he's at a loss, and I don't see a win in pushing him too hard. I have a good loaner, and I don't think he's being difficult, it's a crappy situation for us both. I'm sure he's not thrilled at having his new car being used as a loaner for a month, nor for having mine parked there for the same period.

I'm not thrilled at not having my car, and at having my car parked outside for a month, at a minimum...but here we are.

We were in a GV70 ICE for about 4 weeks as a loaner. Talk about a gas guzzler.......So far replacement display is working.....although I suspect the first replacement they ordered did not work and they had to order another one. I was told the display failed due to an electrical short.....BS. We all know now it is a software issue.

Talk about a gas guzzler, they had me in a GV80 ICE for a month. That car was thirstier than a camel in the Sahara.

I'm not sure it's the same issue as the GV60 has. My very knowledgeable rep knew about cluster issues with the other GV's for some time, those were the ones that needed to be sent out for programming. He never heard of the GV60 issue till mine and he was able to program my replacement cluster in house. Just don't know what to think at this point but my replacement has been flawless, knock on wood.

The issue sounds too similar to be a coincidence. I’m guessing it all boils down to certain revisions of computer chips installed in the clusters, and not all revisions were accounted for correctly in the software. Each revision probably had minor nuances in how the initialization and memory procedures need to be handled.

Periodically (ie once every 4-5 times I start the GVP60) the left screen is blank, usually for only 10-15 seconds. It's not a huge deal but I mentioned it to my dealer. He said they're ordering a new one for me. But after reading posts here I'm wondering if it's worth it to even get it replaced (I realize even if ordered it may not come for a while). Just seems too many have had really bad experiences with the recall process, cars stuck at the dealer, etc And it worries me. I'm almost wondering if it makes sense to wait (til Genesis has a better process for fixing this issue). Again, it feels like a risk for fixing an issue that-at least for me-is very minor right now. Would love anyone's feedback based on their experience to date: order the part, wait or never take it in (assuming the issue doesn't get worse). Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

My suggestion would be to let them order the part but keep the car until it comes in rather than letting it languish at the dealer for a month. Would be nice if there were a software patch to fix the issue, but who knows if that will ever happen.

My Genesis dealer in Kirkland WA won't let us do this. They won't order the part unless they have the car to diagnose it, and they won't give the car back until the part arrives and they can complete the work. My GV60 has been at this dealer since Dec. 31, so I haven't been able to drive my car yet in 2025! At least I got a loaner this time.

Considering the dealer's position, I hope they gave you a quality loaner! What did they give you and was it in good condition (some dealers take good care of their loaners, others don't)?

We had a GV70 with only 5k miles as a loaner. Nice enough but a gas guzzler and not as nice as gv60.
