In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey guys - I really appreciate any information or direction you might be able to provide me!

About 8 months ago the stock Lexicon subwoofer in the trunk blew. It is still noticeable to this day, and it is really obnoxious during some songs where it just rattles the entire car. Not sure how it blew, but I was wondering if any of you have any experience removing the blown subwoofer in your genesis?

I looked on some other forum posts and it seems as though the entire back seat must be removed in order to gain access to the sub? Not sure if this is correct or not!

Also, do any of you have a suggestion as to a replacement sub? I went to the hyundai dealership and they wanted over $500 just for a new one! I almost shit a brick when they told me that. Guess I should have bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty..

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Edit: It is a 2011 Genesis sedan with all the options available at the time.

Yes, the back seat and rear deck must come out to access the sub. For a lot less than $500 you could get a small 10" sub and small amp. You would get a lot more thump if you like, or turn it down to levels equal to the factory setup. Replacing the factory sub with and aftermarket would be difficult at best. The opening/mount is a nonstandard shape/size.

Anybody have pics of this? I should have upgraded mine when I had my back seats out when running wires for my Air Ride install. Interested in upgrading the stock one because putting one in my trunk is out of the question.

Before you go ripping everything out of your car, my question is...do you know for sure it is blown, or is it buzzing heavily? If it blown, rip your car apart, but if it is buzzing heavily, you may just need your rear window shade tightened, as was the case with me.

Is this possible? I brought my car in for an oil change about 3 week ago and mentioned that the rear sunshade has a small rattle when hitting bumps. They told me that the sunshade is a non-serviceable item that can't be adjusted. Funny that it doesn't buzz at all even with the loudest/bassiest songs I have.

Any info you could provide about what was done with your is appreciated..

(sorry to the OP for the thread crap)

I had an annoying buzzing sound coming from the rear deck from the bass music played thru the subwoofer. I had originally thought that the rear deck was loose and had to be tightened somehow. When I brought my car in for my first oil change, they told me they tightened something having to do with the rear shade. They did not even record the repair on my service order but I am going back in May and I will try to find out what they did, but they said they tightened something having to do with my rear shade, and it works fine now

Nice. If you remember, I would be interested (and grateful) for any information.

I believe the rear shade has been known to vibrate against the glass sometimes. I don't have this issue with mine but its a place to look if you're trying to isolate noise in the rear.

My bass was a buzzin and something with the rear shade, maybe the motor, was buzzin too. I'll check for you. Be patient

I blew my stock sub as well is it possible to hook up a aftermarket 8 “ to the stock system with the stock amp
This thread is pretty old. I don't think you'll get much response. I have a 15 sedan and am going to attempt swapping my stock with an aftermarket 8" and run a amp to it. I'll let you know how it works out.

Dgfatz -

I replaced mine with an open air "wetsounds" 8 inch sub and a Rockford Fosgate 250W mono amp. (A 500W is also available for a few bucks more, but it seemed like a bit overkill for me.)

Sounds AMAZING. Sooooo much better than stock, and you can pull the speaker level input off the old sub instead of having to mess with the stock amp. Also, power is a snap because the battery's in the trunk. What's not to like?

PS. You should DEFINITELY add damping material to the deck lid to keep the vibration/buzzing to a minimum. It wasn't designed for a powerful sub.

Hey Bill! I have been hunting for the way you got into the rear deck for replacement. I found this thread earlier in my searching and didn't want to ask the question before I did my due diligence and tried to find the solution.
Did you use a thread for help to get to the stock sub? The amp wiring and everything else is easy to find on this site and I already have a 10" wired in the trunk. But the amount of bass I have coming from the trunk and the amount I feel in the driver's seat are VASTLY different. And I would rather free up the truck space like you did. So as far as the electronic parts I'm ready to go. The sub itself I could use some pointers.
As of now I plan to remove the back seat entirely based off this thread.
And figure my way from there.
