How do I get the cell phone address book to transfer over from my Bluetooth enabled cell phones?

I've been able to successfully pair two separate cell phones to the Blue tooth in my new 2010 3.8 sedan, but the phone books didn't transfer to my Genesis.

The documentation seems to indicate that the car's Blue tooth has that capability, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Both phones work fine thru the car (dialing, incoming calls, audio response, etc.) but this phone book problem is driving me up the wall.

I've read the manuals for both phones and for the Genesis, and just can't find the answer. (It may be there, but I'm not finding it, somehow).

I'd hate to have to manually enter every number. There's got to be an "automagic" way to do this.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

As far as I know this is not possible, but I don't know if it is a limitation of the system installed in the car or the version of Bluetooth on the Cell Phone.

I can (and did) transfer the book over.

What I had to do was do a "reset" to factory specs, then when I "linked" the phone to the car's Bluetooth, everything in the phone transferred over to the car.

It was easy, once I found the right menu setup page.

I repeated the process for my 2nd phone, with the same good results. (You can actually do this for up to 5 phones).

The two address books apparently never get combined, however. They are each under a separate phone ID. In other words, if you use phone #1, it automatically uses its phone book. If you use phone number 2, it uses phone #2's address book.

Magic!

let me be sure i understand:

1. Press what button to get to what page?

2. Select reset to factory specs on he car not the phone.

3. Then pair the phone to the car and the phone book automaticily transfers to the car.

Do i lose destination info on the nav system?
Is it only the phone system on the car that resets and not other areas?
Thanks for the efforts to reply.

To avoid confusion, everyone should keep in mind that Boca Dave seems referring to the touchscreen GPS in the 2010 sedan "Premium Navigation Package," not the 2009/10 sedan "Technology Package" or any other sedan or coupe package.

Not all phonebooks are compatible. Samsung and LG are notorious for not having compatible phone books with many cars. Other phones have issues too. My Volvo S80 is able to load multiple phone books from different compatible phones and then merge them together and present them as a single phone book if desired...a great feature that I wouldlove to see more car companies adopt.

Gripper John, your understanding is generally correct.

But... when you reset the phone to factory specs, that only affects the PHONE, not the MAP/GPS addresses, for example.

When you reinstall/re-pair your phone to the system, it automagically will transfer over your phone book again.

So... you lose no phone numbers UNLESS you manually added phone numbers to the car's address book, in addition to those normally stored on your hand-held phone.

It would be neat if the system synced the phone books both ways, combining the phone books in both devices, but I don't think that happens (I haven't tested it).

At least, that's what happened when I did the "restore to factory settings."

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Has anybody tried doing this as BocaDave describes in the 2009 Tech Package system - or is everybody like me and scared of losing all my phone and GPS data! :D

Re: How to get phone addressbooks to transfer over from my Bluetooth enabled cell pho

When I linked my phone and my wife's phone, the address books just appeared. We have Verizon and use Motorola V204 basic phones. When one of the phones is in the car, it automatically links up and will display the address book. It also recognizes the names on voice command.

So the "Premium Navigation Package" has a touch screen and the "Technology Package" has voice commands?,

I'm not familiar with the new touch screen since it's new to the 2010 model to say whether it supports voice commands as well as touch. But the Tech package on both the 2009 and 2010 sedan is non-touchscreen and can be controlled either by the 7-way physical controller or by voice.

Hmmm...that's interesting! Boca Dave, can you give more details of exactly how you did this? It sounds like you've found an undocumented capability.

My Drivers Information System User's Manual says on page 164 that "The phonebook of the Driver Information System is independent from the phonebook of the mobile phone. Transfer of phonebook entries from the system to the mobile phone or vice versa is not possible."
