  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I'm helping a friend of mine setup his brand new Genesis. We got his phone hooked up and everything, but whenever he presses the Voice Command button, the system defaults to the "Call" action, asking for name or number, not allowing for any shortcut commands "Call x at y" etc. Can we change this?

Why kind of Genesis does he or she have?

4.6 or 3.8?

Tech or Premium package?

There are different Bluetooth devices used so it will be important to know the questions above to further help. Tell your friend we say welcome to the Genesis world! ...and yourself too!

Thanks. It's the Tech Package, no GPS. Don't know the answer to the first question, I'll ask him tomorrow.

2010 3.8 No Packages

Okay, that means it's the new base, integrated Bluetooth system. Looking at the 2010 owner's manual, it gives an example of "Call <john at home>" in the Tips section.

Assuming he programmed a phone book entry with multiple numbers (example John with a mobile number and a home number, you mean when he presses the voice command button, waits for the beep, says "Call John at home," the system says "Pardon?" (which should be the response if it doesn't allow or recognize the voice command)

That's exactly what I mean! When he presses the button, it gives the call submenu; thus not recognizing "call" as a command

I've got the 2010 3.8 sedan without the Tech or Nav package and have a question about this as well. (The manual is not very clear, as it seems to be written for the Tech package version of Bluetooth, which has a much more extensive onscreen menu system.) Rockferd is correct. When you push the phone button, it only gives you the choice between "call by name" or "call by number". It doesn't seem to recognize the combined command. What the manual says apparently pertains only to the Tech (or maybe also Nav) package. The new base level integrated Bluetooth system is an orphan.

My question is, how do you set it up in the first place to associate a phone number with a spoken name? There is no menu choice or voice command for this. Does the system simply transfer that information over from the phone when it's paired?

Hmm, that's disappointing. Yea, it accepted the name the contact had in the phone.

I have a similar "Call" problem with my Bluetooth (2010 3.8 sedan w/premium+nav). I'm paired with my iphone which has names in the format Smith, Jack & Jill. In most cases my address book has both a home and mobile number. I have tried "Call Smith", "Call Jack & Jill" and several other combinations. In most cases, system keeps prompting me to enter a name or, is a few cases, offers to call another name in my address book that sounds nothing like "Smith". I have gone through the voice recognition drill. Is there something unique about the iPhone, something wrong with my system, or just a poor Bluetooth system??

Mine requires me to always say "Call Name" or "Call Number". Then, if I said "Call Name", I can say "[name] [location]" and it works great. Not overly flexible though, I'm used to "mobile" on the BlackBerry and I have to say "CellPhone" to the Hyundai. If I follow its rules, it usually doesn't mess up, however.
