  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just took delivery on a 2013 Genesis 3.8L w Premium package. The A/V/Nav system seems to be working fine, but I cannot figure out when I should expect the car to release (disconnect) the bluetooth connection to my cellphone. I presumed it would happen immediately after shutting off the ignition, but I see on my handset that I am still connected even after I walk away from the car.

I also noticed the phone reconnects to the car as I approach the vehicle, even though I have not climbed in yet nor started it up. Is this correct?

This happens to my 2012 as well, after getting out the car I will make a call and then it would connect to the car still so I have to remember to check my bluetooth on iphone to change it back over to the iphone. Otherwise you will hear a blank noise with some static talking to yourself!

My 2011 Coupe is similar.

If I stand outside long enough to lay something on top of the sunroof my phone will sound off even though I haven't unlocked it or gotten in.

When I get out and walk away I have to get 15 or 20 feet away for it to disconnect. I parked beside the house one day (where the truck usually sits) came inside, laid the phone on the kitchen table, and started doing some other stuff. The phone was still connected. This doesn't happen when I park in the garage and then come into the house.

I usually turn the phone off when I come into the house anyway so it's not something I notice much.

Had a similar prob when I got my 2013 Genesis. My phone would not connect to an incoming call unless I opened the cover on the phone. Verizon has a setting on the cell phone for "autoanswer" you go into the phone settings menu and enable this feature. Works fine now. Worth a try.

Been doing more experimenting. It would appear that the power to the car and the bluetooth system are independent of each other. It looks like the car connects to the phone whenever I approach the vehicle with the smart key on me. (Phone doesnt connect if in proxmity to the car without the smart key, so car bluetooth isn't always on, as I initially feared.) It must sense the proximity of the smart key and then enable bluetooth, even though I haven't opened the doors, much less started the car.

Would be nice if the manual simply pointed out that condition....

All of your observations are correct and have been the same on the Premium Packaged cars since 2010 when the touchscreen Nav became available....

It is not in the manual, because it should not work this way....it is a bug/error/poor design, etc...Read the other thread if you want to see how it was handled by my dealer and Hyundai....

This is really a peeve of mine. The way it was handled (or ignored) when it was first observed and and reported to my Service Advisor, then Dealership Owner, and then Hyundai Coroprate is likely to be the #1 reason that I will not look at Hyundai again for future car purchases.

....May seem a bit petty to let a simple software bug taint my opinion of an otherwise really nice car....

...then again, it seems kind of petty that a car maker would ignore a known issue with one of their products for 3+ model years....

Thank you Richard, appreciate your feedback. I saw that you also answered my post on seats and steeing wheel movements when the car is turned off. Many thanks.
