  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After two months of ownership, I just noticed something this morning.

I've known that the front brake calipers (and rotors) are different on the V8 vs the V6, however this morning, I noticed that my Front Calipers are painted Black. (The rear calipers are painted silver). Took a second close look, and sure enough, they are black.

While downtown for my morning coffee shop stop, I checked out the only other Genesis in town, a V6, and her front calipers are silver.

Very interesting.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
On my 4.6/Tech the front is black while the rear is silver. I guess that is how the supplier assemble the different parts.

Yeah, I noticed it right away when I took delivery of my V8. It's not a big enough thing not to buy the car anyway but only goes to show you Hyundai still has a few lessons to learn before they can really claim to build luxury cars.

I'll probably end up painting the rear calipers myself at some time this summer.

OH, I don't mind. Its just that the front and back were a different color, and the front on the V8 was different than the front on the V6.

If you are going to paint the rear on your car this summer, why not go all the way, and paint both the front and rear RED?

The V8 has different brakes on the front compared to the V6, to account for extra weight of the engine. There seems to be a lot of out-sourced parts on the car, and from very good quality suppliers, so I personally would not complain about it (but I have a V6 so easy for me to say that). If you don't like it, take off the wheel and repaint it. Sounds like it is a lot easier than replacing the headlights.

i have pictures posted on this site of my rotors painted black on my 4.6 v8 , i brought the kit & did it myself from www.tirerack.com it very easy but i suggest you take your calipers off & remove your pads then place the calipers on a box so that you can paint em better & yoou will not be able to drive the car for 24 hours, for the life of me i cant understand why the would have silver calipers in the rear & black in the front, silver will only show your brake dust & dirt more

'cause I'm not going for the "oh look at me" look on this car. This one's all black. I'm actually even considering removing all of the random chrome accents.

should look good gimli, if you dont want to remove the caliper and go through all that trouble I would recommend G2 caliper paint, it goes on with a brush and if you apply it right is as smooth as if it was sprayed on. ON my GS I didnt even have to remove the wheels, but the spokes on the wheels of the genesis are so close togethor I think that would be very hard. And only way I would do red brakes is if they are upgraded to a bbk, ie 6 piston or more.

Any recommendations on where to purchase this caliper paint?

I too just discovered the black in front, silver in the rear caliper. It started driving me nuts so I went to the local dealership "to comment," where I was told; "that's the way it is on the 4.6 Genesis." The Service Manager has agreed to paint the rear ones black but at this point I'm a little concerned about the method/paint they will use since it is "no-charge." I really prefer red all around!

At 72,500 miles, I finally replaced brake pads on my 2009 3.8. Fronts still had 40%, rears, 45% left except for rear passenger inside pad was worn quite a bit more and definately needed replacement.
Upon return of my 5 mile test, break-in drive, that rear brake, wheel was steaming hot!
I took pads off, replaced with no further benefit.
Next day, dealer said caliper was stuck on and would not release. Overnighted a new one- $490- ouch!

Today, front vibrations, especially when turning wheel slight left. Diagnosis- replace front hub/bearing. Again-overnighting part- hoping to replace Tuesday.

Anyone else have issues past 70-75K? Looking at 2014 replacement Genesis- hoping not to kill me $500 a pop with repairs until then.

Just turned 75,000 miles on my 2011 4.6 and no issues. Still have OEM brake pads which are about 75% worn. So guess I will need a brake job at about 90,000. Car has been near perfect.

Thanks for the info, but my post was over 3.5 years ago and I've purchased great caliper epoxy from Amazon and also R1concepts which is where I purchased my rotors from. I do have a thread for the rotor install, which includes pics of the caliper paint also:)
