Hi.
Anyone know if the 4 piston calipers on the 2009-2014
models on the V6 and the V8 5.0 are the same part?

I have the 2013 3.8 currently and thinking of upgrading the brakes.

The 2013 3.8 comes w/ front 13 inch discs and it has 4 piston brake caliper in the front.

I want to upgrade the front brakes to the 5.0 V8 13.6 inch discs.

Will the 3.8 4 piston brake calipers fit the larger 13.6 inch disc?

By eye, I don't think it will fit, the calipers doesn't seem to have room for a bigger brake disc.

I would appreciate info if not I probably need to stop by the dealer to see if they are the same part no.

You need to also check wheel clearance if you have stock wheels for the 3.8 V6. The larger front brakes from the 5.0 might not have enough clearance on the 3.8 wheel.

I am not a brake expert by any stretch of the imagination, but would a larger rotor actually help if the calipers were the same? If not, that would suggest that the calipers are different.

Part numbers on the Mando 4-piston calipers vary by model year, not trim level, as they changed the diameter of the rotors at least two times. They all physically bolt onto the Sedan and Coupe spindles with zero modifications, just make sure to get the rotors for the same year of the calipers.

I believe someone on here before tried fitting the V6 wheels onto one equipped with the Mando 4-piston calipers and had to use spacers for the spokes to clear the fat caliper.

Alternatively, the Brembos factory on the Genesis Coupe fit on the Sedan with no modifications and the Brembo front caliper is skinnier than the Mando, so it might clear a V6 wheel without a spacer, might.

I am sure it will clear. Genesis brakes fit as long as you are using 18 inch wheels. Even the kdm dynamic edition model brake caliper uses 13.6 rotors and huge calipers with the genesis logo and i saw them fitting the stock 18 inch wheel.

Also i have the tech package it comes with the same 18 inch wheels as the non rspec v8s.

My question is will the 3.8 4 piston caliper fit the bigger 13.6 inch rotor. If not i need to go buy calipers...

Hi were the wheels 17 inch stock? I have the 18 inch wheels so it should fit even the v8 mandos.

17s were stock V6 wheels, I believe 18s were an option with some packages. The 18s do clear the Mandos and Brembos.

17" wheels were on V6 Base trim only from 2009-2013. Premium Package and above had 18" wheels.

I am not so sure that all the 18" wheels on the G1 Genesis have the same clearance (Tech Package wheels may be different), so I would search this forum for more information.

Hi all,
Let's get one thing straight.

Factory wheels KDM / USDM options. There are only these that came stock all over the world.

I am not asking about the clearance. The 18 inches all clear the mandos, even the caliper w/ Genesis logo on it.

I am asking if the V6 / V8 4 piston mandos are the same or not? Please only answer if someone has useable knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Asked and answered.

Are they all the same? No.

Depending on model year, the length of the mounting tabs varies because the diameter of the rotors varies.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

So the mandos are probably the same but the mounting tabs are different? So in order to use the 13.6 rotor I probably need to buy a different bracket?

Looked up the part no's on Hyundai Part OEM sites. No listing for the 4 piston mandos for the 3.8 just the single piston.
Looks like they are the same....

The Mando 4-piston has the bracket made into the caliper itself, it bolts directly to the spindle/knuckle. If you buy a 2012 caliper, you need 2012 rotors and pads to go with it.

As for why you are not seeing 3.8 4-piston Mandos, in North America, the 3.8s never got the 4-piston Mandos. I am not sure if Rest Of World (ROW) is different, example:

The Genesis Coupe:

- In North America, never got 4-piston Mandos, just single piston or 4-piston Brembos for R-Spec/Track/Ultimate trims.

- In ROW, base models got 4-piston Mandos, top trims got 4-piston Brembos.

If you are looking on a North American website for Hyundai part numbers you will not find any for the V6, you will need to look at the V8 models.

Hi,
I have the 2013 3.8 Tech Package. It has 4 piston mandos in the front I believe. I used to have the 2012 5.0 and the calipers look the same. Its the black painted 2 bulging (piston circles) calipers.

The best way is one weekend, I need to take off the wheel and personally measure these disc diameter and look at the caliper inner side.

I am suspecting the V6 base model came w/ the 13inch discs + single piston and the upper trims of the V6 got the same brakes as the 5.0 RSPEC. (same calipers and the rotor size)

I have to confirm this.

I doubt that for two reasons:
  1. I Never saw anything in the specs that mentioned different brakes on the upper trim levels as the V6 (as were mentioned for the V8).
  2. The Tau V8 (even before R-Spec) had bigger front brakes because it was more than 200 lbs heavier (all on the front end) than the V6.

Then how do you explain the mandos on the v6s that came with the car? Next time you see a v6 with tech package look at the brakes.

Mine is stock and it has the mandos.

Upon further review he is correct.

2009-2011 V6 Tech package did NOT come with Mandos, just single piston front calipers.

2012-2014 V6 Tech package did come with Mandos.

My USA-spec 2013 base model also has the 4 piston. It changed during the 2012 facelift.
