If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I have a 2009.. with 76K on it. My brakes are starting to feel not quite as smooth as they used to be. The dealer has on my oil change paperwork that I will be needing brake replacement in the future.

Has anyone replaced their brakes yet? Did you use aftermarket pads or did you stick with the OEM pads. The rotors and pads h

ave been GREAT. My last few cars... I would only get 40K - 50K out of my brakes. I do drive the Genesis a little differently than those cars though...

Does anyone know if your rotors can be turned/machined? I have heard some people say some cars come with rotors that cannot be turned. I did notice that online rotors are about $150 each for factory ones. I think I may want to stick with the OEMs...like I said - I have never had brakes last this long...and stay this smooth.

Also- anyone gotten any quotes for a brake service from their dealer? I have always replaced my own, but I would definitely entertain the dealer doing it if it is reasonable.

Thanks everyone and take care,

Bob Hall

86k+ miles and I still do not need brakes. First car I have had that did not need brakes by about 50k miles. When I do need brakes I will use the best ceramic pads I can find.

I have 45k on my car, brakes were inspected the other week and noted to still have about 50% left! So yeah, these things seem to last pretty good. I'm generally happy if brakes go to 60k, but I do mostly highway commuting.

My last few brake jobs on our Subarus I've gone with Akebono ceramic pads. They're reasonably priced, have good stopping power and are fairly low dust. Akebono makes OEM pads for a lot of manufacturers (Subaru being one of them) but buying them myself off Amazon.com saves a ton vs. dealer/OEM and other regular parts suppliers.

I just had my front rotors replaced last week when I took it in for scheduled maintenance. I have a 2009 with about 42k miles on it. I live in Northern Virginia, where the commute is a brutal stop-and-go affair so I was not too surprised when they said the brakes would need replacement soon. I told them to go ahead and do it now while I was in for service. They did turn the rotors and replace the front pads. Doing it at this time was not a necessity, but I am planning a drive up to Massachusetts in a couple of months and I wanted the car to be in top shape for the drive.

In first sentence you said your rotors were replaced, and then later you say that they were turned. Which is correct? Obviously, the pads were replaced.

I like Akebono Pro-ACT Ultra-Premium pads, but I just put a set of Wagner Thermoquiet pads on the back of my Isuzu to try. When the Genny needs brakes I'll probably go with Akebono.

You are correct. It was only the PADS that were replaced. Thanks for catching that.
